  • Today I will show you how to not only create these adorable nesting Christmas trees, but also how this jig will maximize your holiday cheer. I’m talking about profits people.
    Being a new channel, all the likes / shares I can get help my growth tremendously. Thank you!!
    TREE PLANS
    docdro.id/TGVPtpc
    JIG PLANS
    docdro.id/DJ8HVoP
    The free plans are in the description below.
    The coolest thing about this jig is its ability to achieve 60 degree angles on the miter saw so the end grain is hidden, unlike the 30 degree boards.
    This section makes sure the overlaps are spaced the same and the nails are hidden on the interior.
    These boards are used as bracing so you can easily nail the top boards together, while keeping your hand toes at a safe distance.
    These two are the original trees I made last year, and then when I was on Pinterest I found this adorable baby one and just had to add him to the family. He is a shorter version of the middle tree, so I can still make all three using the same jig.
    If you are only wanting a few trees to give as gifts, their will be a video recommendation at the end where I build these trees without the jig.
    First, find a board that is at least two feet long and cut two 30 degree miters at the end, it should look kind of like a pencil. I rounded the edges of my jig because my belt sander was a new toy in the garage at the time.
    Measure in about 3/4 inch and score a line down the right side. And get two pieces of scrap, about ¾ x 3/4 , 6 inches long and secure them on the line, this space does a few things; it gives your consistent cuts, it keeps everything square, it allows you to hold the workpieces and use the saw safely, as most miter saws controls are done with your right hand, and it reduces the chance of movement or kickback. You can also clamp down your workpiece, if desired.
    Then, download these plans. I use ½” stock material from the big box stores, this jig can be used for any size tree, however, this area where I nail the sides, is constructed from 1/2” material, so 3/4” material cannot be used in this section.
    I use my jig to align my miter blade using the base, lock your blade angle, and secure the jig using a clamp. The jig does not have to be up against your saw blade, mine is usually a quarter inch from my blade, this way my jig doesn’t get marred up.

    9:24 Thank you for saying this, that nails bend up or down! So many other channels claim they bend left and right, but you can look at the nail and see they're all glued together in a stack on their flat sides. If it bent side to side, it would somehow be doing so through its thicker width. A tape measure bends up and down. Saying it could bend side to side would be silly.

    • @WhosTheVoss
      @WhosTheVoss  9 месяцев назад +1

      Oooo I like the tape measure example! Thanks buddy

    • @themikeham
      @themikeham 9 месяцев назад

      I believe this is wrong and I hope he pins a correction about nail bending. The nails bed in the direction of the bevel, meaning they will bend side to side (0 degrees to the nail stack and gun direction). I have seen too many ER trips with finishers having a nail put through their finger as it exited the side of the work piece due to holding the nailer incorrectly.

    • @billparrish4385
      @billparrish4385 9 месяцев назад

      @@themikeham It depends on the cross-sectional shape of the nail. Ones that are round or square, yes the chisel point will determine deflection direction. However, if they are the flat type of brad nails, stacked flat on top of each other like boards, the chisel point will not be able to deflect the nail through its thicker mass. Imagine a stack of knife blades, where they're perhaps 1/8" thick and 1" wide, but with a point. Even though the point would say it'll bend left and right, that's through the 1" width. It'll bend up and down, bending the 1/8" thickness, even though that's not the direction of the point. Or imagine the tape measure I mentioned earlier. Even if you cut the end at 2 45-degree angles to make a point, that will not cause the tape measure to bend side to side, it'll still bend up and down. So, it depends on the cross section of the nail you're using, whether the chisel point will be enough to overcome the thicker mass.

    I really love the idea and the way you describe the stuff in your videos. And your plans are great to have. As I'm a metric guy, I struggle a bit with the dimensions of the wood. I'm trying to figure out what to buy over here in Germany. You wrote on your pdf file: I buy 1/2" x 2" x 4", but I guess you meant 1/2 in x 2 in x 4 ft, right? And to make it worse - nominal vs actual size - the real dimensions are 7/16 in x 1 1/2 in (11mm x 38mm), right?

    • @WhosTheVoss

    The reason it shoots to the side, is because the tip of the nail is pointed and that angle from being pointed causes it to push through the wood and bend sometimes.

    • @WhosTheVoss

      The large one is longer because the sides for the large tree are longer, and the mark is where I line up the last side board. Thats the only reason its longer that the other :)

      when I use my tape measure on the plans the dimensions are not as written?

      @WhosTheVoss  8 месяцев назад

      You should be able to download the PDF and print it as a full sheet on 8.5x11" paper. Otherwisd, as long as the format is the same for each diagram they will still nest together :)

      I thought that’s what I did but I will double check it, thanks.

      I’m trying to figure out how to upload a picture to show you the dimensions that I measured on the diagram.

      I figured it out, I had printed it from youtube without downloading it to PDF, once I did that it worked perfectly. Thank you for your help and really love what you do and your knowledge and willingness to help others, keep the videos coming

    This is weird , I just recently discovered the sound of them , I was using them on a roof and I accidentally dropped one and it made a beautiful sound , after that I got all them out and I discovered they do sound all different. Today this video showed up on RUclips 🤔. Very weird lol

    Your plans don't work with using 1-by material, (which is actually 3/4 inch stock) Can't buy material that is 1/2 inch. The angle at the top is wrong for 3/4 inch stock.

    • @WhosTheVoss
      @WhosTheVoss  9 месяцев назад +1

      Nope, the plans are only for 1/2" material. As for the top angle, 60 degrees cut from both equally, or a butted 30 degree angle is most common for any thickness material, you just need to adjust the lengths so the middle boards do not touch for thicker boards :)

    Excellent. Are you in Engineering school, yet? "upstairs" workers ALWAYS make more money than "downstairs" workers in a Big Shop and(for rapid advancement) that means getting an engineering degree OR a hostile take-over of the cafeteria(which happens to be upstairs, most of the time.), which I DO NOT recommend since it is dangerous and illegal. Please, continue thinking, creating and making these videos as they serve to quench my general thirst for any evidence that men are still men.

      I meann, I took drafting in high school. I did create all the plans to build our home (garage and house, all plumbing and wiring diagrams) before building it with my wife. Although it was overwhelming at times, it was a fun experience. We also did 100% of the work ourselves :)

      @@WhosTheVoss nice. If you do go to get a degree, remember- bringing actual knowledge into a "higher learning" environment is always hugely amusing and video worthy. Please, be nice to(and don't feed) the teachers. I'm inspired. Thanks
