A good rule of thumb for Etsy on how many of an item has been sold is to take how many reviews that specific item has, and multiply it by 10. If there are 50 review on a specific item, you can count on them having likely sold 500 of those items. This based on the statistic that 1/10 people leave a review, which is pretty solid across the board.
So sellers don't stuff the reviews like on Amazon?
@jeremiahbullfrog9288 It's always possible. I suppose that there are fake reviews. But from the research that I've done the one out of 10 is a pretty solid measuring stick

Doubt that - that's an old school hog-wash belief!!. There are ways to create fake reviews now to get sellers items pop up sooner to viewers. Reviews Don't match sales any longer !!!
@morethanenoughwoodworks7654 Your research as BS. Etzy reviews are corrupted just as they are on other sites, the number of Reviews Don't = Sales. Don't be sucked into that mentality - I've requested his so-called app, Because. .. there is no official app to actually prove makers sales against reviews upon any platform. Only Etsy themselves (or other similar sales platforms) have access to that data, and releasing that data to public would destroy there own sales company so it ain't gunna happen.

For your question: Side grain sticking out on bottom. But make it stick out about 3/8 or 1/2 inch from the sides (and maybe the front) and pop a round over on it. That'll take it from ugly side grain to a design element. Then do the same on the top.
Also, try milk paint. It should give you less hassle with the sanding/distressing.
Water based tints/stains work decent don’t they? I haven’t heard of milk paint

I was in the same boat, only making things for family and friends because I didn't think anyone would pay money for the stuff I was making. It wasn't until my wife received a gift from her coworker that I realized I could sell my stuff. It was literally a piece of scrap wood with my wife's name on it and when I looked it up it was being sold on etsy for $19.99 After that I started looking into selling my stuff.

You find that dowl jig unstable and the handle unwieldy because you're using it upside for some of these dowel holes.
The 4 protruding cylinders "on top" are supposed to be used exactly like your center line finder. Turn it over and have one on each side of the work piece, then holding the handle, turn the jig until one touch one each side, then the middle dowel guide hole will be both centred on the work piece and the jig much more stable by being braced against the sides with the tension of your hand.

I might try this using cedar fence pickets. You get to add the natural bug repellent to the description. It also might be light enough to make it a wall hanger as a option. There'll be seams but that's just ventilation. 😅

FYI your milescraft dowel jig has those bars on the top so that the jig itself can be a center finder

Probably already been said but you're using the dowel jig upside down. The plastic pegs on it self centre the hole on the edge of the timber. It sits on different angles depending on which size hole/dowel you're using.

If you notice the doweling jig that he is using is getting the holes worn out so they aren’t tight anymore. If you have to rely on those dowels, they may not make a secure enough connection (but they might)
If you like dowels, I highly recommend the dowelmax jig. For what you get, it is hands down worth the money. Tight tolerances on the aluminum, brass screws and hardened steel inserts for the drill guides. Most companies don’t have the hardened steel so the inserts wear out and everything gets sloppy. It would be worth reaching out to dowelmax at a minimum
I have heard of the dowelmax jig but they are really expensive like $225 and this one was only $10 😂 I know you get what you pay for. I think the bigger problem is that its all plastic so it has give and its hard to hold still while you are drilling. I don't know if it applies to dowels too but a lot of woodworkers on RUclips that do joinery test say that a little slack in the connection such as in a rabbit joint allows for more glue and make a stronger joint. It is a good ideo to reach out to them and see if they will send me one to review though. Thank you for the comment.

I bought a doweling jig from harbor freight for $25 that is aluminum body with hardened steel guides. I don’t remember the brand, but it works great and hasn’t gotten sloppy after a couple of hundred dowels…

Take your bottom door off and run it through the table saw where the hinges are. It will give you a 1/8" gap to match the top of the door.

I'd say the corners missing is worse. Sand the end grain super smooth and it won't get quite as dark

Just add some crown moulding on the top where the overhang isn't the same...put that on along with the sides and have more basket storage up top...solved!😊

Good job. I think if the hinges were placed on the inside it would look better. On the other hand, soft woods are porous, to avoid the proliferation of bacteria, the floor of the shelves should be lined with self-adhesive plastic paper. A greeting from Spain.
Hello Spain, thank you for your advice, it is appreciated. You are probably right about the hinges but It would be more work to cut the groves for them so I would have to try it and see if its worth the extra effort. My wife is going to get shelf liner from Costco. Its not adhesive but it sticks well.
Hold your jig upside down and hole will by in the center. Use those pins in same way as your center marker.

Dude, I love your channel. It's cool to see someone else have as much fun wood-work'n, figure'n stuff out as you go, cause you're not use'n actual plans, you're go'n by a picture earlier that morn'n, or even a couple days ago. You don't wanna make it exactly like the one you seen on Facebook, or wherever.
For one, you should expect to build a new project 2 or 5 times b4 you get what you was really aim'n to produce;
A marketable product.

My sons were telling me about free music that you can source and freely use for your building back ground music if you want.
Of course, they didn't drag me to it, make me open it up , play around with it, find some I like, and save them for later, no... they just insisted, all I had to do was go download it😢.

Get a set of self centering bits (vix bits) to predrill holes in the center of those hinge screw holes. They are awesome.
You know I think I have some, I guess I was just being lazy and not predrilling! 😂
to drill center holes for your hinge that is best done with Vics Bit

Just a note for those looking to get into this, but who may not have much experience in the way of sales and/or marketing, or business in general: When he says, "They made $70K on this," keep in mind that that number includes their product cost and shipping. (Yes, it's "free," but it's not. All these "free" shipping deals - Amazon and Ebay included - are simply the shipping cost wrapped up in the sales cost.)
So, the product cost for that bin, I'm guessing, was around $60 pr so, depending on the builder's area, and probably at least $30 to ship. So, the $545 gross profit most likely translates into $450-ish dollars net. Which is still really good, but... how long did it take to sell? How long did it take to make? There are shadow boxes I can make in less than 30 minutes and sell for $60-$70. Two 1x4s, some glue, couple brad nails, and stain. Total product cost of about $6-$7, sell them in a set of 3 on FB Market Place or Etsy in a 1-3 days. So, what? If I do that in 30 minutes, then I make about $100-$120 an hour.

Just an observation… if you had made the door frame pieces (rails and stiles) about 1/2” narrower, I believe the proportions would look a bit better, plus give a tiny bit more ventilation. Slots in the sides with hardware cloth would look good too. Just saying… thanks for sharing!

@@jascogoods hardware cloth is that heavy “screen wire you used”. Usually 1/4” or 1/2 “ galvanized mesh.

Your bowed board wont be bowed anymore if you throw the board out on the lawn, cup side down for 1/2 hour. Also, whenever you go to Cosco, look out back, where they keep pallets! great lumber, some hardware, pallets to keep your wood off the ground, or movable. Also, plywood(lower quality), all free!
That's a great Idea, Thank you for the tips. I have a wood rack but I think some of the problem is how dry it is out here in Las Vegas. The wood comes in sorta wet and then dries really fast. I think I need a way to keep it locked flat.

Been thinking of good things to make to sell and i thought of a great one you could do. I made an awful version of it in HS but i figure you could make it a lot better. It was an Out House TP Dispenser. Door on the front, shelf inside to hold an extra roll and an opening in the bottom for the TP to go through. Just thought it would fit your style. Love the vids.

You’re using that dowel jig upside down. Not sure if that was on purpose though based on your sense of humor lol
lol, no it was not on purpose. It only works the other way on longer pieces of wood. On the end of the 1x3 its too small for the centering pins. A lot of people have noticed that.
What about stapling a few pieces of small thin wood over the mesh.

At 9:41 in the video you are using a jig to drill a hole. I think I have that same jig. For some reason I think you have it upside down and that you use the 4 pins to help center the jig on the edge.

I don't think you are wrong. Several people have told me the same thing. The manufacturer has a video on youtube ruclips.net/video/QALncuFuEgk/видео.html I don't know If the boards I was using were wide enough to use the pegs but I'm gonna check and figure it out before I use it in another video. 😂

your paint tray is designed for the rungs of a step ladder. One side sits over the rung and the other locks it in
I will have to test that on my ladder. I went back to walmart and the other paint trays were not like that.
So… I was interested in checking these out on Etsy. I am so confused. It was very obvious what your search was. But when I did a search for vegetable bin… i did NOT get the same findings. Weird!

I absolutely love your channel new subscriber here i need a bunch of things to sell with the way things are so high these days i don't have a choice but to try and do something i been actually watching a lot of videos on how to make cardboard as hard as wood and i must say alot of people are using wood glue and water mix and putting a bunch of coats on it but I found 1 that used a couple coats of Shellac and 1 used epoxy and so I put a coat of each 1 on a thin piece of cardboard this morning and about to go put another coat on each 1 and trust me I would never make things exactly as you do because i don't like copy cats i had that done to me a few times I still made money just not as much because I lowered my price and I think the same way you do like how are they selling something that only cost them a few dollars to make for a ridiculous amount i know we need to charge for our time and the whole point is to make extra money but that's insane i rather sell for a good cheap price and sell plenty then to sell for a ton and maybe sell 1 you know the only thing that is that high of all the stuff i sell are my tree stump tables because I have to get my son to go out and find a nice size 1 and then dig it up which is very timely and tiresome and then it takes allot of paint and epoxy to make them look good them i have to buy glass to the shape of it you know but im looking for some small stuff i can make quickly through out the year i already make Christmas trees but that's only for a certain time of year anyway i have made this way to long already sorry about that i just want you to know I love your channel and im going to go binge watch your videos have a great day and again thank you

So, once again, you have outdone yourself. So many jokes, the Festool sponsorship one had me rolling...🤣🤣🤣and I am always good for a crop-dusting joke as well. Festool would be lucky to have you. My solution would have been miter joints on the bottom with the bottom flush with sides, and then I would have cut a piece to go all the way across the bottom so that small piece would be the only end grain showing. Pretty sure my explanation makes no sense to anyone but me. Anyway, love the build, as always, thank you for the humor and sharing.

@@jascogoods Yep, you got it. I wish I could post a pic or drawing so I could show exactly what I mean. But quick recap miter all four corners of the box and cut the piece on the bottom that the door sits on to run all the way across. Then that small piece is all that is showing endgrain.

As for the corner gaps under the door, cut a couple small corner blocks and glue them in, will make the finished item look a lot more better and not rookie-ish.... from a professionals view there's a bunch more items I could advise on, however considering the rustic look you're going for this does the trick "for that type market" At least your in the shed doing it, so thumps up to that.

You don't need drawers, just doors and a shelf halfway to separate top and bottom. The doors can open the same way. Just have side peices that stop the doors where you want
