Making a STAR WARS Table from Concrete & Epoxy Resin

- This episode shows how to make a DIY Star Wars-inspired coffee table from concrete, wood, epoxy resin, and LED strips. Check out Wagner Meters: bit.ly/329zNol
I combined Death Star style lighting with GFRC concrete, woodworking, and epoxy resin that is backlit with LEDs to make this Star Wars inspired coffee table. My goal was to design a DIY concrete and epoxy coffee table that every Star Wars fan would recognize as being inspired by Star Wars, but that non-Star Wars fans would just see as a cool table design.
I used my X-Carve CNC to carve foam knockouts for the melamine concrete form, then poured GFRC concrete over the foam. I removed the foam and poured epoxy resin in the gaps, which will diffuse the LED strips. I then used some woodworking techniques to make the leg and lower half of the coffee table from maple lumber. I also 3d printed clips that hold the LED strips in place under the epoxy resin.

“If you’re watching this video then theres a good chance you grew up loving star wars”
Me:*has never seen anything starwars other than trailers* suuurrrrrrrrrrreee
That means you're a good litmus test for whether the design also succeeded with non-fans :)
It did indeed pass the litmus... im a star trek guy and found the table visually pleasing.
Find the closest to their original release versions, the prequels aren't as bad as we remember, especially compared to the most recent travesties of story telling.
I'm a Gamer and Guitarist and even I want that table. Oh and I don't like Star Wars, so I guess I'm the ultimate test of success. :D
I just randomly picked this for the led table is all.
This table arrived well packaged and on time. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxn94T8Mu1iMnsLCMNOI9srXSsLkI4JXKW Like another reviewer advised, I pulled everything out and made sure everything was included (everything was!). I built it alone and it took me about an hour. The color is great and for the price the lift part works well. As others have mentioned, it’s not the smoothest opening/closing, but it works. The screws do show, but I plan to order white sticker covers if that bothers us too much. Really happy with this table! UPDATE: it’s been over a year since we got this coffee table and we still love it! It gets HEAVY use as our dining table, foot rest, and school desk. Over time, the opening and closing mechanism has gotten smoother. I added a new photo with the white screw cover stickers. They blend in perfectly and make it look a little cleaner. 100% recommend!!!
This is one of those "shut up and take my money!" proyects.
Thank you! Very kind words! :)
Aren't all his projects like that though ?
As a life-long Star Wars fan, I completely agree. I want one of these in my room
Thanks Shaun! :)
Thank you!
Great build man, love the mixed medias
Thanks man!!
The force is clearly with you, Mike! This table turned out awesome! And, caulk saber is such a clever twist on caulk talk - you are so funny and creative! 😁
Lol, wonder who would come up with an idea like that 🤣
Sweet. The references and music just made the video so much more fun to watch. Amazing project....
Thank you Ivan! 🙏
You must have had such a blast editing this vid. Yet another quality project, and content! Much obliged!
Thank you! This one was a ton of fun to create 😁
Your taste in design and the effort for details and perfection make me feel I have a brother from another mother. ❤️🙏
You've done it again. Great job Mike. The Force is strong with this table
Thanks Christopher!
I'm not even a Star Wars fan and this is one of my favorite videos of yours! Another amazing job, can't wait to see what you come up with next!
Thank you 🙏🙏
Looks pretty sweet! Good to know I'm not the only one having to work in the snow.
Yup! Us cold weather makers gotta stick together 👍👍
I'm so thankful for all I've learned from your videos and I particularly appreciate seeing when the process doesn't always go smoothly.
Thanks Shaun! Always happy to share mistakes so others can learn :)
Amazing! The Deforming reaction is priceless!
Be safe!
That table is amazing!! Love the style and Star Wars reference
thank you!
I thought I was going to skip forward to see the results and got hooked into it
That's a huge compliment - thanks!!!
Every time I think "this is the last video I'm watching," the beginning of the next one plays and I get entranced until the end. Maybe he's a hypnotist... he does everything else... I wouldn't be surprised!
That table turned out amazing! I like that it's Star Wars in a more subtle way instead of throwing a character or a logo on it.
Really!? Amazing work!!
Thank you!
@@modustrial When Dekay likes your stuff, then you know you did something amazing because the stuff Dekay makes on his youtube channel will blow your mind!
Where he uses the acetone to melt the foam makes a great effect. I wonder if you could some how put a clear resin over that melted foam. And make a kind of melted lava kind of table. Or maybe a melting terminator table / melting Terminator bust
That light show is sick
Love how this turned out!
Thanks Johnny! Good to catch up with you at WBC
Looks awesome, the pips are also the visual representation of mores code , would have been funny to write out something to do with star wars
Thanks Shaun! That would have been cool... This type of pattern is such a flexible design element so maybe that's an idea for a future project 😉
That's a cool idea, this was my translation of the table.
Morse code:
Top: -.---.-
-.--y -.-k or -.-k --.-q (depending on how you look at it)
Mid: .--.-.-
p r
Bot: .--.-?.-
p X or Q
Binary:1011 1010 1101 0101 101.01(1010 or 1011) 01
in decimal 11 10 13 5 (10 or 11) 1
if a=1 z=27 KJME (J or K) A
if a=0 z-26 LKNF (K or L) B
ascii: = ºÕ
Um, excuse me, it's actually not Mores Code. It's Morse Code.
Morse is the person who developed an international code for communicating without audio. Mores was a television cat that sold cat food.
@@toomuchsugar3960 we couldn't have done it without your expertise
@@toomuchsugar3960 and you care why
Mike, one of the best projects I've seen from you... I'm a Star Wars geek as well, which helps liking it even more. :) It seems you've mastered the whole GFRC thing perfectly, it looks really awesome. Also love the wood vs concrete contrast, congrats on the great build!
Thank you! 🙏
Table looks incredible. The fog machine is extra af and I love it lol
Thanks! I couldn't NOT have a fog machine for this one! 😀😎
This is coolest RUclips video I've ever watched, and I've watched literally thpusands of videos! That coffee table maybe the single greatest piece of Star Wars fan art ever created!
"Luke - use The Caulk!"
Like The Loch Ness Monster and the Sasquatch, I have heard stories of people who have not seen Star Wars, but I dismissed them as completely implausible.
Yeeees, love it, lol
Wouldn't having channels in the wood for the led strips have saved you a lot of soldering time?
Would also have moved the leds off of the epoxy surface diffusing the light acbit more.
i was thinking the same....lol must be a dutch thingie
Awesome solution for securing the LEDs!
Thanks Tyler! 3D printing is kinda a secret addiction of mine :)
OMG! This is my favorite project so far, I love watching this kind of videos where people build different things, and this one just became in my favorite of all of them, I really love it, I would like to know how to make this kind of things, you are awesome!
Thanks Karen!
Do you sell these tables? Unfortunately, I've never build anything before; but I love this table.
@@bigmicproductions 😂😂😂🙌🏻
translation: I wanted to do something I could categorize as star wars for the video title, but when placed in my apartment wouldnt make girls say "ufff what a nerd"
Lol, exactly!! 😁😎
You want those as a test because if they say that, they are the wrong girls to have in your apartment.
Curtis B took the words right out of my mouth
@@curtisbme absolutely agree! It’s not fair that guyz have to give up their likes for girlie stuff when they get into a relationship! I ask you-who wants just dang flowers on sheet sets and soft furnishings!! 🤪 lol
My adult children found partners who accepted their ‘nerd’ genes hehe (my daughter just finished curtains across a huge window, that is the same backdrop as Heath Ledger’s Joker, when he crashed a tv show! In velvet! 😆)
The way that concrete meets seamlessly with the epoxy is perfection.
Thanks Greg!
Sweet build. Every Star Wars fan should have one.
Thanks!
"Secret hand shake" I also like to call. The Star Wars triangles
Thanks!
So I can expect delivery of this when???
Awesome table!
Thanks! Just keep an eye out in the mail ;)

As a Star Wars fan myself I really love this table. Love the style of your videos as well! Keep up the good work!
Thank you! 🙏
Blown Away !!! You pulled out all the stops on this one. ❤️
Thanks Chrystal!
Imperfection?
See, storm troopers suck at targeting rebels!
Lol, yes, exactly!! 😁
@@modustrial You could've airbrushed it to make it look like a blaster burn.
20:38 Should have played Mos Eisley Cantina music.
I wish...darn copyright laws 😁
1:43 - Spot on. I didn't realize why it was a star wars themed table until you explained.
Lol! Young people! May the "Force" be with you!
I have nothing with Star Wars but that is one cool table!
you canNOT deny the epic, soul-crushing Force of this table! Seriously, brother, well done. Now, if only I knew where to get one of these 🤔
Not a fan of Star Wars, but holy moly I'm a fan of this build. Really enjoyable watch.
Thanks Taylor!
This is one of the coolest tables I've seen yet
Thanks Allen!
totally in love with this table , i want it!!!
Never have I wanted a table as much as I want this one. Nuts!

Amazing table. love the lights as well
Thanks Frank!
Awesome STAR WARS table. I should show this video to my brother which is STAR WARS fan. He will probably love this.
Thank you!
Cool projects, you were the inspiration for the channel I started. Enjoy your content, I tried the marble effect you demonstrated. Mine did not turn out quite the same but I will try again.
No Star Wars fan, but big fan of your work, man! Awesome! Just gave me tons of ideas, by the way.
Omg, this man is a lunatic! Soooo much work...and those LED's, oh lordy, what a nightmare! You my friend, have the patience of a saint.

The Force is strong with this project. It would have been a wild touch to add a data port to the leg at about astromech height.

Absolutely beautiful great job.
Wow. Awesome. Now I want one too!
The nerd is strong with this one.
Amazing build!!
Thanks! 🤓🤓😀
I've seen a lot of videos in the last two months. This is the first one of yours that I've ever seen and it is superb! I actually watched Star Wars 27 times (pre-VHS days). Didn't want to go by myself so had to scrap up the cash for myself and my date half of those. Then in the srvice (82nd Airborne) I got lucky. The post theatre was across the street from our barracks. Whoo whoooo! Once a day and twice on Saturday! Anyway, loved your video, editing was spot on, the information was very inspiring. I especially liked the way you pointed out alternative tools for people like myself that have'nt "Eastwooded" their garage yet. I came here from DIY Perks, Lnus Tech Tips and Modern Rougue. I say all that to say...
...this video is in my TOP FIVE! My the "Force" be with you, always.
Thank you!! And also with you... 🙏
Incredible Mike, by FAR my most favourite build yet, you had it all, if you were to ask for a perfect recommendation for a video this wouldn't be far off,
Well done and again, incredible job!
