  • This is a video showing you how to set up your DWS779 12" Sliding Miter Saw.
    I had a Ryboi 12" sliding saw before this one (which is still going strong after about 5 years of moderate use), but felt that it was time to upgrade as we are starting to do finish carpentry as a side hustle.
    This saw is awesome! I'm really excited to get it mounted to a miter saw stand and get to work!
    I got this saw at Lowe's for $399 on sale. Amazon can be a good place to get it, depending on who is doing what sale at what time. Here is a link on Amazon if you are interested in getting the saw there:

    Just bought this saw today. Thanks for the tip! I’m double checking mine tomorrow.

    Thank you, that was an easy, helpful walkthrough. Now, I need to check if my speed square really is square! :)

      Thank you! That is a good thing to check. It’s always nerve wracking if it turns out it isn’t and you’ve been using it for a while 😂

    Oh! And how often do you have to recheck if the blade is square?

    • @berlinbuilds
      @berlinbuilds  3 года назад

      I’m not sure the book answer on this. I usually just square them up once and roll with it, but I could see it being smart to double check your square every couple of months or so.

    About how long did the setup take from start to finish?

    • @berlinbuilds
      @berlinbuilds  3 года назад

      It took about 15 minutes to get the saw set up and then another 45 to get the blade square.

    What’s the point of the edge extenders?

    • @berlinbuilds
      @berlinbuilds  Год назад +1

      Honestly they're pretty pointless when it comes to supporting material. One of my saws I pulled them off so I could run wings up to the saw, the other one I use them as handles when I pick it up and something to wrap the power chord around when I'm storing it.

      Lol I had volume up for the relaxed voice, and ended up jumping up to the ceiling and grabbing it as i looked back down, like a cat getting startled by a bear.

      @@berlinbuilds hahaaa no worries. Your video came on after another video I watched, and it was while I had earbuds in, and changing blade on my 779. So the sound of you kicking it on made me darn near soil myself.. lmao!!
      I only have 1 functioning arm, so I tend to be a bit overprotective, and when you kicked your saw on, I had a million things race through my mind. Thought I had a flashback from my service days in Nam, and I wasn't even born at that time hahaaa.
      Thanks for the video, and the gift of allowing me to witness my entire life in a few short nanoseconds!!! Hahaaa.

    why should a customer have to fine tune the adjustments for square? I really dont like the incremental shifting of quality control from manufacturer to user.

      Good question. I really wish we didn’t have too either! I have seen though from hauling my tools around in my trailer that things do get bumped and jostled a bit in transit, which naturally can loosen things up and make them go out slightly. I’m assuming (this is just me thinking) that most saws leave the factory all squared up. The nature of transit may make them go out slightly. Not totally sure, but those are just my thoughts on it.

      Hey CRY-BABY, you should be thankful for the ability to adjust the saw. Even if this saw (or any tool) wasn't perfectly aligned from the factory, eventually it will need to be adjusted due to "wear & tear" from normal use. Maybe you should stick with screwdrivers and sockets...leave the power tools to the adults!
