My Microwave Opening Was Too Small! How to Fix It
I always mark the floor. Mostly because I’ll forget myself but i hate when my work gets water damage from a misplaced screw by some wet behind the ears cabinet kid.
lol marking paint for studs? never ever seen that but why the heck not? it's a good idea.
they are still nailing that stud....just saying
I know it takes more time. But it’s a nice touch if you take a chisel or router and cut out the thickness of the protection plates. Not having a bump on the drywall where those plates are is a great way to get that extra clean look at the end. I’ve been a carpenter building custom homes for 20 years and we end up doing for the plumbers and the sparkies.
Thanks for the tip! That’s a good idea I should try.
There will be flooring covering your note before the shelves go up
We’re doing carpet, so the note will still be there. LVP though would have been different.
Impact drills don't care about your stop plates
So what do you recommend for the other 4 stacks where we put nail plates along the top and bottom plates?
@@berlinbuildsthat are just taking smack. They aren’t made of aluminum foil. If whoever puts that shelf up drilled through that plate, their insurance can cover the cost of the repair because they have no clue what they are doing.
I didn’t realize posting helpful videos would stir up so much ire 🤣
@@berlinbuilds So serious. You're doing right.
You could have a ladder or step stool on your truck… But builders never bing tools, just a finger to point out problems… Jk no offense I’m trolling you. Get taller.
This is the comment that won the day! Solid work!
Drywall guy.... slash.... slap..... zip, zip zip ..... "what did that say? I couldn't read it in the dark with drywall dust all over the floor..."
Actual positive feedback in the comments of a construction video? Change in the world is happening
Yeah I was surprised to, but also surprised at all the hate!
I feel like most contractors wouldn’t even take the time to check on these extra details. Nice work keep it up!
Thanks for watching! I hope it helps keep things on track!
Excited to see the final product! Keep up the good work!
Thank you! I'm excited about it too!
2 years later the homeowner is adding some shelving and hammers a nail right through that pipe....
Or make life easier by just adding blocking where you know the corners of cabinets are gonna go, add California corner so you can center that stack on a non load bearing wall, and then you can actually have a proper cleanout cover thats not tight to a stud
That a joint there, bud?
It’s a screw.
dont cross your plumbing through the studs. simple fix. half ass award goes to you and your subs
3/4 plywood screwed to 2X2 furring on 2X4 framing
If you set the rest of the workers up with good work like this, the client gets a better product, but hey are happier with all of you. Happy client = more recs
As a shower door installer i appreciate you
I’m here for you! 🤣
End of the day when good work is done by each part of the process the customer ends up happier and it’s a win for all involved
I just watched his video from 3 years ago about going solo starting his own trim business. Super cool. I'm hoping I'll be able to have my own business one day. This video is very informative. Are there videos on how to bid on jobs? How to find jobs to bid on? How to find where to order the material from? How to do estimates? How do you keep customers from screwing you over (not paying)??? I have so many questions.
Hi Chris! Those are all great questions that would be hard to cover in a commented reply. I’m planning on doing a live Q&A session here soon where I’d be happy to talk about those things.
@berlinbuilds hey man, if you ever need a list of questions from a guy that's only a third term Carpenter that has a long way to go. I could probably come up with 20 plus questions for yeah haha
I would write was 66 inches was ex from concrete or finish floor
Pipe should be plumb. 🤦🏽♂️
People like this guys is who you want to work on your house.
Thank you! We do our best to take care of our clients!
You forgot to write it in Spanish 😂
Could just throw a double partition stud in there. But this works as well.
What is a double partition stud?
A good carpenter would have laid it out into the same stud space. That is lazy.
Very useful. Glass really doesn't like to wobble either... All it takes is just barely too much wobble and you'll need a broom, dust pan, and a new glass door 😅
Unfortunately I know personally the effects of a door breaking 🤣
Just put a proper nail plate up over the pipe! 😂 Got 2 little plates with a gap in between. If you solve the problem a head of time they are less likely to cause a problem.
This is going to sound dumb but in the near decade I’ve worked full time in construction those are the biggest nail plates we’ve used. A quick google showed me a really big one. I might need to buy some now! Personally, I still don’t want the trim guy nailing into that stud though in case a nail veers into the stack, or, he straight up missed and hits it.
Sometimes people don't realize that construction on homes and things like this happen in waves. The closet guy may never even see the guy who writes these notes just because of how their schedules are. Notes like this one on the floor make a HUGE difference in making sure everyone is on the same page.
Very true! More information is always helpful for the next guy!
Or if you forget about it yourself lol
This is one of the few places in life I believe in karma. Be kind to the next guy, because the next guy might be you.
It’s true in construction. Try to make the people behind you have an easier job. It makes a better product!
Use Würth💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Why does the drill have foreskin
You really have no idea what you are doing do you???
Wow you sure got butt hurt. This is a simple technique for someone who doesn’t have time to make a real zero clearance and can be helpful as a reference. You do realize going through my old videos and commenting on them helps my channel? Thanks for the comments 👍
No buffer between those and the drywall??? Good job destroying the drywall.
Um, yeah. I’m going to nail them onto the drywall. What would you have done? It’s in my house and is 4 years old with no issues.
Yes way too steep and way too close to the marriage piece and on top of that the wrong typ of screw, thread to shank ratio
Well, seeing how these are two 2x4’s both turned sideways and it’s just about the same angle as a kreg jig, I’m not concerned. 3” grabber screws have worked just fine. Also seeing as this isn’t the only screw in the piece nothing was moving when I was done. Thanks for the keyboard warrior comment though.
Bro, he's just showing a technique to drive a toenail screw, he's showing how well it works by doing it at a really steep angle
You don’t have to drill as far and you don’t need to back out the screw
That’ll work too 👍
@@berlinbuildsno that is the correct way.
@@Dylan-vv3gnit might be for you if that’s the only way you know how to do it😂
@@hayleyberlin1515you are correct. I only bother remembering the proper way to do my job. The incorrect ways belong in the RUclips comments. Have a nice day
I didn’t realize posting a helpful video on how to put a screw in easier would be so divisive! Screw how you want Dylan. My screws work the same 🤣
Do you know howany screws I've dropped not knowing this? ...3. But still
Haha, well now it can always just be three!
thats not holding anything way too steep
I mean, that’s not the only thing I did to hold that board on, but sure. This is just demonstrating how to start a toe nail easier.
You think it would be good for drywall mudd?
Yeah it'd do great! I've used it to mix concrete. It's a workhorse.
Smart
Thank you!
You missed an important bit; the dust extraction is really good if you attach a shop vac. Even for occasional indoor use its usable, it doesn’t leave a complete mess like a regular circular saw.
I keep meaning to get an attachment for my shopvac to use this and still haven’t. One more thing on the list still!
@ Oh I use a random cheap Kärcher one and the standard hose connection just fits.
@ thanks! I'll have to check it out!
Looks like you painted a finished floor though.
It’s the concrete floor of a basement. We have carpet going on top of it.
😂 silly goose
Flooring guy here. If the flooring is glued down, that paint can find its way through the flooring. Might take a year or two but it will likely bleed though!
Nothing glued down here 👍 I’ll have to remember that for the future.
Too distinct. Cyan for electrical, teal for drains, blue for studs.
I used to use yellow for corrections at framing but one of my framers was color blind so I had to start using red 🤣
The saw needs to face the other way as you lose a lot of use from the material supports
Yes. I realized that long after I'd been using the saw for a while. When I built wings for it I ended up flipping it around.
So one of my stair skirts is installed like this and it bugs me. It doesnt seem right to have the skirt on top of the stair. When i redo my treds im going to see about putting it beside the stairs like it should be.
There's a good chance that the framer didn't leave enough of a gap to slide the skirt into if that's the case. Cutting skirts like this takes a lot more time and is more of a fix for framers not leaving enough room (except for some rare cases).
Im so proud of you i wish i could do the same after doing a profesion so many years you realize you can do it yourself yeah its lucrative but its better
I'm cheering for you! It's a leap of faith but it sure feels good once it's going!
this was super helpful thanks! did you hear about that italian chef who died? he pasta way. anyway, swiss is my favorite.
Man that's a good one! I've used it twice today now that I saw it earlier. Swiss Cheese is always a classic!
God Bless you!!! Your video is still putting in good work!!
Thank you so much! It's always nice to hear the videos are still being helpful.
I’m right handed and I would want my material stop to my left not to my right, personal preference though. Great job.
Nice work here Nick, love all the custom work. Great planning and frame work. 👍 Happy New Year!
Thanks buddy! Happy New Year to you too! It’s been a lot of planning!
