The Black Snowboard of Death has been one of the best investments I've made this snowboarding season. Standing at 6'3" and weighing in at 197 lbs, I went for the 161W size, and it's been a game-changer for me. I used to ride a 163, but the 161W gives me a ton of maneuverability and versatility. If a 163W was an option, I'd probably go for that, but this smaller setup has its own set of advantages.
Now let's talk about this board's performance. Holy cow, this board is a beast! It pops like crazy and rides with a level of dynamism that's second to none. I found that when I set my stance back, I was able to unleash the full power of this board, and man, it was a wild ride. At first, I wasn't a fan of the reference stance because it felt like I was falling forward, but once I set it back, it was a whole different story. This board absolutely slays in the powder, and on groomers.
I paired this board with Union Atlas Pro bindings (L) and K2 Orton boots (11.5), and let me tell you, this setup is a powerhouse. It's stiff, but that's what makes it so incredible. Whether I'm carving down the mountain or hitting jumps, this setup can handle anything I throw at it with ease. And after spending some time on the mountain, I gained a ton of confidence. I was hitting 20-foot cliff jumps and landing like a pro in choppy snow. It's crazy how quickly one can adapt to this high-performance setup, and I can say with certainty that it's taken my snowboarding to the next level.
But here's the thing, the Black Snowboard of Death doesn't like to take it slow. It shines at high speeds, but I've also done slower laps with my girlfriend, and it still performs well, just not as well as when it's really flying.
In conclusion, if you're an experienced snowboarder looking for a board that can handle anything and give you an unforgettable ride, the Black Snowboard of Death is the way to go. Its pop, stiffness, and high-speed performance make it a no-brainer for anyone looking to take their snowboarding to new heights. Just one thing to keep in mind, if you're someone who likes to hit the moguls, this board might not be the best choice for you. But if you're looking to push your limits, the Black Snowboard of Death is the way to go!
Edit: This is me riding it at solitude ruclips.net/user/shortsrI6WyDmzWOw?feature=share

Very detailed review man, this board is so sick! I could see myself getting a board like this in the future. For my next setup I want something more solid that can also get thru powder better than a true twin, but not sure if I would go for a strictly powder board. I like how they set this one up as like a powder/all mountain hybrid. I just want to also say thanks for always throwing in comparable options at the end of your videos. I’ve always been a huge fan of K2 so I will check that one out as well. Also I see that OSL in the back! Can’t wait for the 2023 review. I just picked one up on your recommendation and a pair of Rome Katanas. I would definitely go with the Rome cleaver on the BSOD as well! Now just gotta to wait for resorts to open up. Review is spot on. Picked up an early release and got a couple days in at hood. The torsional flex is super accessible. High speed carving and jumping from edge to edge is next level on this deck. I have a 20/21 model and would say the initial flex is comparable. In all fairness I did man handle it in the garage to help loosen it up a bit before riding. I think 10-15 days on the hill and it’ll settle into a sweet flex. I am 6’5 220lbs size 14 boot. Very much recommend this for bigger riders. Capita nails it. To have a 165 with a 27cm waist width and be super light is amazing. I’m already considering buying a second one in case they stiffen it up again.

I really missed that board as the turn initiaton was insane and speed handling was great. It also does pretty ok when you are not riding it 100% concentrated. This profile is 90% simmilar with only a flat section in tail so I expect simmilar behaviour.

Hi Angry! For the last 6 years I have been riding Burton Custom Flying V, and finally the time has come to reach out for new board. My riding is: 90% - groomers where I want to improve my carving skills. 8% Park - but I only jump off of kickers, I don't do rails/boxes. 2% - POW if I am lucky. So in general I need a board that first of all will allow me to carve better, and from time to time let me enjoy kickers in the park. Since my current board is a hybrid board, I want my next one to be true camber, as I think I have the skills to advance to the more aggressive board. As I want this board to be at least 270 wide, I have narrowed my choice to two boards, which you have reviewed: Nitro Team Pro, and Capita BSOD. Where I live Nitro costs 500 USD while BSOD is 670 USD, and my question is - given my expectations is BOSD that much better than it is worth paying 25% more then I would pay for Nitro? :) I would appreciate your opinion a lot, and if you have a better option for me, I will be more then happy to check it out! Looking forward to hearing from you!

I got to ride the 23 BSOD with atlas pros this past season and I would totally agree with all this video. I ride a 22' Jones Flagship with 19' Now Drives and 20' Vans Verse boots. the 23' BSOD rails carves hard, like seriously on rails, i would overall say the review is spot on and if you do like the k2 alchemist youd love this board.

    • @grahamclowes8078
      @grahamclowes8078 Год назад +4

@@cameronharris2862 the flagship is a lot more a progressive flex with more taper, definitely more of a freeride focused board. The flagship handles chop/variable conditions so well and is wicked fast, the float pack inserts are super dope for pow days and overall just fuckin rocks most terrain; my only gripe is that I'm a lighter guy but got good enough muscle and technique behind the board but it can be a lot to drive when you're tired, quite lively.
The Alchemist is light and fast, it's sidecut radius and taper make it really rip some nice carves. It's also a lil less of a progressive flex compared to the flagship because of the carbon weave they use in it. It has a little slower of a base which isn't super noticable but it can make a slight difference for cat track traverses.
And finally the BSOD. I really love the BSOD, it's a pretty all around a stiff board but its lively so it can buck you. The bsod is definitely the most all mountain/all terrain of the 3. It's got very little taper but the Alpine v1 profile they use on it really makes up for that near twin flex and lack of taper. It's a big mean aggressive board that love to go fast. The base grind it comes with is super dope and good value.
I've had 2 buddies buy a bsod this season and they love them, it is number 2 on my next boards I want right behind the mega merc, I just want fill my quiver out a little more before buying another big all mountain freeride board. To be honest, the bsod is my favorite board of the 3.
The flagship is the ultimate pure freeride/pow board
      The Alchemist is freeride/resort beast
The BSOD just does everything so well, it's a weapon.

Thanks for the insight Angry Snowboarder. I’m pretty sure I’ve narrowed down my new board selection to the BSOD.
I’ve been riding a 2010 Burton Easy Livin (158cm) since I was 13 years old. It was a great park board for my teenage years, but I’ve definitely gravitated to the freerider I am today.

Let's say you walk into your local watering hole, and there's this guy sitting at the bar, nursing a beer, looking deeply troubled. Being the kind soul that you are, you ask him, "Hey Bub, what's s'matter." He says he's looking for a new board, a daily driver, and torn between this year's BSOD, the Yes PYL Uninc DCP, and a Flagship. He says likes charging groomers, but also wants a solid performer on a powder day. A direction resort rider's quiver of one, if there is such a thing. You can see he's really tormented by this decision, not being as keenly aware of the subtle differences between the three as you are. He's sliding deeper into the depths of a PBR-fueled despair. But with a sparkle in your eye, you pull up a bar stool next to him, order a beer, and set his mind at ease. What do you tell him, Avran?

    Hello
I need help! :) I would need a recommendation about new board :)
I do not know which one is more suitable for me: Capita Mega Merc 153 / BSOD 156 / Super DOA 154.
I'm intermediate rider; 171 cm, 72kg. Most of the time I ride on pistes. I like fast turns and also carves but I also like to ride slower and play around and take small jumps. Sometimes I play around off piste. Rarely I go freeriding in powder. I do not go into parks at all, except small jumps or low, short rails.
Now I have an 'old school' Elan Quantum 155, which is directional chamber, 3D top profile. I like it but I think it is already time for an upgrade/change. I have it more than 15 years. It it quite heavy I think.

I appreciate the fast base, responsiveness, and stability. The only thing is, I do not ride switch at all, nor do I use rails or attempt big jumps. Is there anything similar in a directional, setback version (with all the benefits of the Super DOA)? I assume it could offer some advantages over a twin if I don't ride switch. Or not?

Honestly no, ideally I'd have liked the 59 I think for personal preference. But for what I was riding it suited me just fine.

My 23 Stratos just got stolen and I loved it. Charging groomers and some choppy crap, never park, rarely jump. Like going fast. Replace the stratos or try BSOD??? Thx @angrysnowboarder

Hey Avran, stuck between ordering this and the k2 excavator. Ride mostly big bear and mammoth. Looking for something I can hard charge down double black diamonds groomers and hit side hits. Wanna go down without my knees and ankles getting banged up but have more grip in turns. Thanks man your videos are awesome and spot on.

You probably want something with a damper ride to it so it helps save the knees/ankles.

I own the 21 BSOD and last years Excavator and wouldn't even try to compare them. BSOD is my daily driver, and the Excavator comes out when it dumps. The BSOD is just so much more fun on hard snow and can handle a small amount of pow if I move the bindings back.
