Awesome review! I am 5’11 and 240, I ride the new MindExpander 162 but find it too soft, the nose bends when carving groomers. I am out East and ride trees, groom, love to slash pockets of pow. Is the Mega Death could be a good upgrade? 161w or 165w? Cheers
@@danielberube4142 You should find a stiffer nose than the Mind Expander, but the Mega Death nose still has some flex, If you want a stiffer nose, you could go for the 165W, which would work for your weight, it just might feel a long for your height
thanks, I might go this way, I am also considering a Korua Dart 160 or 164…
I own this. I rode it at Revy over two weeks in every condition possible. It is the perfect board. It is a Porsche 911 Turbo.
Is the base fast on it?
Super f'ing fast
I just got this board and I’m waiting with bells on for some snow in the PNW. You absolutely rip by the way. I subscribed to your channel just because you’re one of the few reviewers I’ve seen that is a legit great rider.
Thanks dude, I appreciate that, I'm always trying to keep it real out here. Definitely worth the wait till you've got good snow coverage for this board
no snow out there?
There is now, but's it's been a pretty subpar year.@@farawayskies
You always get awesome footage and have the best video transitions for a reviewer.
I especially loved the Osmo Action IV review, and I hope you have an awesome season this year - especially content wise.
Id love to see this channel blow tf up, you deserve it in all ways I can see.
Thanks so much dude, we're hustling for it!
Thanks!
Thanks so much!
I'm deeply moved by your video! °° "Triumph emerges from relentless dedication and unwavering commitment."
The only bad thing about this board is that it costs so much that when you’re at the bar apres you worry about it outside.
Nice riding. And great tune again 😁🤙🏼
Thanks dude, always trying to make the best edits I can
I’d like to talk about how surfy this board can be. Yeah it holds an edge. Yeah it carves hard. Yeah you can slash it. Yeah it’s fast AF. But when you put 3 -4 inches of pow or slush under it you can back foot surf it and it’s so fun. It feels almost like a spoon as you surf and curve. Tbh, it reminded me of my Capita springbreak powder pill the way it would surf.
I haven't gotten it in any pow yet, but I can't wait. Headed to Japan with it this week!
I got the Mega Merc this year and got my first ride on it at Breck last week. It's my first Capita board and only my 2nd board ever; been riding the same Burton board since 2011. Needless to say, I'm a huge fan of Capita now. Your mega merc videos helped with my decision, so thanks! Hoping to someday ride a Mega Death as well.
Hell yeah, right on! The Mega Merc is still so sick, stoked to hear that you upgraded from your older board
@@SearchofSnowboardingHi there, should I trade a bramd new Capita Mega Merc 2023 for a Mega Death 2024? O currently ride Mega Merc 2022 for the third season and I am thrilled with it
@@themessner I love both, it depends on how I want to ride on a certain day for which one I'm riding. If you've got a Mega Merc already, the Mega Death would be sick
Great video! I ordered 2025 165W (110kg). Hope I'll like it.
Sick, you're gonna love it!

I got this board but haven't ridden it yet. Thank you for the great review. I've a little issue with the inserts. Wondering if anyone else has struggled getting the screws into the inserts?
Yeah mine took a bit of a fiddle..they're in now tho
Nice rip dude + thumb emoji!
Thanks dawgie!
Hello. Thanks for all the knowledge sharing and presentations. How would you compare capita mega death and jones Stratos? I don’t do park. I used to ride 2020 Stratos, but sold it recently. Thus I am contemplating between the above 2 boards. thank you.
I’m 5’9 185lbs size 8.5 boot. You think a 56 would be fine or jump up to 59?
You could really do either just fine, but you could find the 156 may feel too soft with your weight. I'd maybe suggest going 159
I can only confirm that, I ride the Mega Death in 162 and the board is a beast
Death squad
The super doa 156 has been my go to for years now… I’m on my 5th one. This board has caught my attention, I’m 5’8 155lbs 8.5 boot and I’m kinda torn between 156 and 159
I think you'd want to go for the 156
GET IT, I switched from Super DOA this season I've only ridden twice so far but enough to tell you that this board rides sooo gooddd and it's Soo light
Turning is soooooo satisfying

@@SearchofSnowboardingwhat's you stance position, Center ? Or setback as recommended
Keep in mind theres I believe only a 2mm difference. So that’s 1 mm toe side, 1mm heal side. You’ll never notice.
Great vid!
Im looking at the aeronaut, MD and BSOD, and i think im getting the MD.
im 173cm 75kg with a size 40/41EU
I ride mostly Northen sweden/finland/norway, but will prolly take it to the alps in the years to come. Maybe japan since ive heard japan is nice.
The main recommended binding i have seen for this board is the Union atlas pros, But then i see that ppl say it lacks dampness compared to the bsod.
i have pretty stiff boots. Ive also looked into the new Union force bindings because of the comfort and dampening, also union ultras bcz alot of people recommend them but i dont know if its a good fit for the board and i preffer the stiffer side of feel in boot/binding. But yeah i cant really make up my mind on what to get.
I ride mostly groomers and maybe some offpist, rarely hit any big jumps or park but that maybe comes later. The bsod was the one i wanted to get but i also wanna be able to do a jump or 2 and maybe some butters etc. So i think the MD falls somewhat between the bsod and aeronaut?
Help... xD
Man watching you flow on this board gets me pumped for the season. Just picked up a 159 2025 MD. What size boots are you?
Hell yeah, you're stoked! I ride a size 9 boot
Hi!
I’m 180cm, 72kg (158lbs) and size 9. Only the 157W left available in EU. Worth getting for me or would the 156 be a better choice?
Tuned one a few days ago. Incredibly light. Seems like a cutting edge board. I like where they're going with this. Haven't ridden it so who tf knows?
It honestly rides as good as it feels in your hands
this will seem random, but the saturation of the oranges and reds seem off in the skin tones for the sections in the studio. Also maybe consider a reflector or fill light on the bottom. If your lights can do it warm them up a bit and maybe add a light into your background or something. Rad video though! loved your creativeness on the snow gun whale tails
I've definitely lit this setup better in the past, was a little pressed for time on this whole video and didn't get the lighting as dialed
Great review! I picked up the 161W based off the recommendation from a Capita rep (based strictly on weight). I’m going from a 157W to this 161W and having a harder time turning it over in the trees and bumps.
I’m 5’11”, 205lbs, 11.5 boot. Do you think I’d be pushing the weight limits of the 159 too much? For how much this thing costs I want to make sure I’m getting the most out of it and as much as I can feel the weight/pop advantage I want to love it for more versatile conditions. I also understand the weight limits of a light board. Thank you for your insight!
I'm 150lbs and I ride the 159. I think the 161W is great for your height, weight, and boot size. It's got a lot of energy and in certain terrain needs a little more force to initiate, which is what you're probably feeling. I'd stick with the size you've got for sure
@@SearchofSnowboarding So how did it handle in Japan's POW???
@@tehruckus It was unreal! But you could have rode a cardboard deck and it still would've been sick with those conditions
Been loving my Jones flagship. Overlap in boards should I happen to find a mega death? Pros and cons btwn the two?
Made for similar riding styles, but the Mega Death will be much lighter and have a lot more energy and snap to it
Just picked mine up today 😊
Sick! It's gonna blow your mind!
@@SearchofSnowboarding hope so...I've been riding a k2 Zeppelin for the last 15 years 🤣
Oh boy, you're life is about to change@@calvinhall4878
Would you choose a 156 or 159? Since you are only 150lbs I would assume 156 best fits your status. But on the review you seems to be really enjoying the 159. Does that means the board shines better at a longer length?
For my weight, on paper, yes the 156 would be right on, but I know what length boards I prefer which is typically 157-160 depending. It is a little softer than I am used to which is also why I wouldn't have gone shorter
How would this board be for someone who’s currently firmly intermediate. Riding a 153 Mercury right now but have put on some muscle weight since. I’m 5’7 at 175. Was thinking this in a 156 could be a good all mountain fit.
Because this board is not overly aggressive I think it would be great for you in the 156
@@SearchofSnowboarding awesome thank you! I got an order with a late January ship date. We’ll see if it actually goes through haha.
@@SearchofSnowboarding So my 156 order got cancelled but a 159 popped up on the site. I had a 20% off coupon that worked on it but I'm a bit worried that 159, at the top end of my weight/height might be too long. Any thoughts?
@@AznAnarchy99 Yeah it could be, especially with such an expensive board you want to be stoked on the size you're buying
I wanted to get this board but I was reading reviews, and somebody felt it didn’t hold an edge well enough for the east “ice” coast. But they said it’s amazing otherwise on any other type of snow.
We've had icier conditions here than normal, and plenty of people are complaining, and I've still been ripping all over with this board. Ice is ice and I'd say there are not many boards that could fix that
@@SearchofSnowboarding thanks. also, do you know why their smallest size is a 156? i feel like at 140 ish lbs and 5'6", i'm so used to boards around 150cm. weird they didn't make a larger range.
I rode it on ice. My last board had magna traction and I worried it wouldn’t ride as well as that. But it does. It’s great on hard pack.
A lot of brands do smaller size runs the first year they release a new model. They definitely need to make more sizes
@@SearchofSnowboardingRe hard and icy - if it's not a one run go home day and if your rails are sharp (DIY) then all the board needs is to absorb and dissipate the energy coming in under its forward contact point. I've found that over a decades long riding career, if a board feels perfect out of the box, if it doesn't need to be broken in, it sometimes has a short life. That said boards are getting better and I am finding that top tier boards today don't fold up if you enter a turn too aggressively, and they can really hold an edge in a turn - the good ones you can break loose at speed, drift a little, and then suck your legs back under your body and reset the rail for a hard couple of snappy turns depending on terrain. Today snowboarding can exceed motocross and kiteboarding for just fu*king blowing your mind during a good session. Love your riding and control so thanks for the reviews - I'm bailing on green resin boards for now hoping the *real* epoxies may come back?!
Shane, what is the best powder board for Japow and Colorado Utah pow. I'm 5’9” 185, size 12 and ride a Yes Standard and Greats as my daily’s. I also own the Aeronaut, Megadeath. Also, whats your Patreon?
Thanks for the support Will, don't have a Patreon as of now. Trying to decide if that is something everyone would be interested in for this upcoming season. Hard to say what the 'best' pow board would be because there are so many sick options out there. I've obviously really been loving the Mega Detah for Colorado and Japan Pow but a few other awesome options are the Burton Hometown Hero, Capita Navigator, Jones Flagship, Lib Tech Orca just to name a few
Thanks Shane. You Rock.
How does this compare to the mega Merc?! Sick big thanks for sharing/review!
Still love my Mega Merc, but this is way more fun as an all mountain board. Has more energy and carves way better than the directional twin
I just got myself a 23 mega merc with 23 Nitro Phantom 👻 can't wait to test it!! I'm really hyped !
Awesome review! I’m 5’10 and 165 pounds, is 159 too big? I want to go for 156 but seems like it is sold out everywhere
I think 156 would be perfect, but 159 isn't too big. I think almost all sizes of this board are sold out or close to it
Non left at 159 in Europe
Im between this and Mercury or DOA.
Man its so expensive but but 1ce cry 1ce is my philosophy. I want something for my family trip to Copper thats really special. This will be my first and only board if i go with it. Im a mwtalhead so it just feels right
Go with the Mercury, it will be a better all mountain board
@SearchofSnowboarding thanks man! You recommend the regular mercury over the mega or the merc ?
@@techdeth They're both great, Mercury will have a more standard feel, Mega Merc is one of my favorite boards and has an amazing flex pattern
@SearchofSnowboarding really appreciate your replies my friend thanks! Can't wait to go shred in March 🤘🤘
Hi, I just bought a cheap used board for the time being, but was hoping to get bindings/boots that I can use for years to come. Do you have binding recommendations that are as cheap as possible but will also last? Trying to not spend too much until I get a full set one day and I feel like the bindings are a spot I can save money on
Bindings are the one piece of gear that will last the longest. The Union Force Classic is one of the best bangs for your buck
Compare to the Mega Merc, after this video, i don't know what to choose anymore... ( for "agressive" all montain only, everywhere in the resort. I've got a PYL Uninc for the pow). I've been riding since 1994 (i'm 53), mostly on custom (but i tried many boards), and custom X the last 15 years. I never had a Capita . so , what do you think or wich one do you prefer ? mega Death or Mega Mercury ? merci !! 🙂
Interested as well. I ride mega merc and love it. Although mega death is something I really want to try and compare myself.
I’m 5’9” 160 boots size 9. What you think 159 too long? Or should I get 156? Thank you.
I think you'd be better off with the 156
@@SearchofSnowboardinglocal store has only 159, is it gonna make be too much for me than 156? Need some advice? Thank you
@@MrChriswongprom It's a little long for your height, but your in a good weight range for it, so you could be ok
you didn't have to throw that backflip bro. we already knew the board was gonna be fire. 😂
That's just me having fun hahah
That slash to noseroll 3 off the snowblower bank looked fun too!
Way to rip man. Why do you recommend the Atlas Pros over, say, the Forces?
i like the review. how would you compare this to the Mega Merc? I loved the MM and the BSOD, but feel like I'm more of a MM guy: a little more laid back, more into a twin...
Oof, those are all three of my favorite boards but I'll try to break it down. The Mega Death is like an easier ridding BSOD but it still has so much energy if not more. If you liked the snap of the Mega Merc, you'll find more with this board and it is way more fun to carve and ride around the mountain than the Mega Merc. The Mega Merc has been my favorite directional twin, but nothing beats a directional board for freeriding and carving
i dig it. thank you!
@@SearchofSnowboarding
I ride a mercury. I do love it, but I love new shit.. so, could the mega death comfortably replace my mercury? I ride medium jumps, side hits, some low key butter too.
Yeah it could replace for sure, but it's different enough that you would still enjoy riding both.
Curious, what front and rear binding angles do you ride?
Typically 15, -15, but I was riding 15, -12 in this video
How would this compare to the Nitro Team pro?
How does this stack up against the Aeronaut?
Pretty different, the Mega Death is going to carve better and you'll find a the Aeronaut has a much different feel because of it's narrower width and different construction
I was torn in between bsod and megadeath, watched pretty every review and finally grabbed the latest bsod, cuz ppl said it feels damper and kinda more balanced than megadeath, but after watching your review I'm again struggling if it was the right choice. Should I keep the bsod, or should i change it for megadeath?
It seems like the Mega Death is pretty sold out so it might be hard to find until next year. The BSOD is super sick and you got it for a reason so I'd keep it and ride it hard! Get the Mega Death next year if you're still feeling its pull
@@SearchofSnowboarding I was looking for a Mega Death, but you nailed it that they are sold out. I was late to the party on that one. Grabbed an Aeronaut instead with the thought that I may search for a Mega Death next year. I got the Aeronaut over the BSOD as I thought it would be a different feel and shape than the Mega Death. Whereas the BSOD might be more similar to the Mega Death - at least this way I'd have two very different boards when I grab a MD. Thanks for your reviews, I'm really enjoying your channel!! Great niche of you riding and reviewing.
@@jonnynails Sounds like a good plan, once you have both Aeronaut and the Mega Death will be awesome to have together. Thanks dude!
Is the Mega Death lighter than the Mega Merc?
Yes
Oh yeah
Hell yee dawgy! Is it as fast as everyone says?
Even one footing around the base area flats I could tell how slick and premium the base was, so yeah super fast haha
I’m not the best snowboarder on the mountain. But I am the fastest. This thing rockets through flats and traverses. You will have to completely reevaluate how far you can travel on flats. You don’t creep past other boarders and skiers on traverses. You blow past them.
@@Heartcentertraining lol you're scaring me brother
@@ninjabic on traverses, other riders will be down in their stance, arms behind their back, trying to eek out any extra speed. And I’ll be standing up arms out to the side whistling as I cruise past them. It’s a whole new level. But it’s also completely stable and predictable. Get one.
@jhawk1118 hell yee! I have a 157w. Just waiting for more snow. :(
Is it good for carving ?
Yes
What's your stance and spacing setup for this board? And do you keep it generally the same for all boards?
I was riding 15, -12 and a 21 1/2 inch stance. And yes I primarily ride this stance on all my boards because that's what my body likes. Thinking I might play with my angles a little this season though
They need to make a split version of this.
I'd buy it...
Oh man that would be sick,
For sure, I would upgrade my Mega Split immediately for that
What were your bindings set to?
15, -12
Nice carving, hence the question lol
Your vid is great, like your carving style bra. Heading to Japow in a couple of weeks which should be great to test this stick out.
