This understanding is not a massive shift... *its clarification on God's personality...*
    Ezekiel 18:23 New Living Translation
*“Do you think that I like to see wicked people die? says the Sovereign LORD. Of course not! I want them to turn from their wicked ways and live.*
2 Peter 3:9 New Living Translation
The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. *He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.*
God does not punish the innocent. When the Israelites came out of Egypt they disobeyed God in not fighting against the Canaanites. For this God sentenced them to 40 years wandering in the wilderness. However their children were allowed to enter the land of Canaan...
    Deuteronomy 1:37-39 New Living Translation
37“And the LORD was also angry with me because of you. He said to me, ‘Moses, not even you will enter the Promised Land! 38Instead, your assistant, Joshua son of Nun, will lead the people into the land. Encourage him, for he will lead Israel as they take possession of it. *39I will give the land to your little ones-your innocent children.* You were afraid they would be captured, but they will be the ones who occupy it.
God is not "fixed" in destroying people...he can change his mind if there is a valid basis for doing so...
    John 3:4,5,10 New Living Translation
4On the day Jonah entered the city, he shouted to the crowds: *“Forty days from now Nineveh will be destroyed!” 5The people of Nineveh believed God’s message, and from the greatest to the least, they declared a fast and put on burlap to show their sorrow.*
*10When God saw what they had done and how they had put a stop to their evil ways, he changed his mind and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened.*
    Jonah 4:1-3 New Living Translation
Jonah’s Anger at the LORD’s Mercy
*1This change of plans greatly upset Jonah,* and he became very angry. 2So he complained to the LORD about it: “Didn’t I say before I left home that you would do this, LORD? That is why I ran away to Tarshish! *I knew that you are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to turn back from destroying people.* 3Just kill me now, LORD! I’d rather be dead than alive if what I predicted will not happen.”
**So this talk is not new light but CLEARER light. The bible says that would happen as prophesied events get closer...just like light increases as dawn of a day approaches...**
2 Peter 1:19 New Living Translation
Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the *message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place -until the Day dawns,* and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts.

It really is the saddest thing . . That the organization can so drastically reverse course on major and minor things, and there will always be the ones that just nod and say, "no it's always been like this; nothing has changed at all."
The fact is, a month ago, you would have found just as many, if not more, scriptures to support the previous belief, because with a book that is so vague, contradictory, and taken so often out of context, it can be made to justify just about anything. And that's the point. How arbitrary it all is. How one day you open your eyes, and really see how HUMAN this organization is. It's not God's direction. It's just a group of old men, voting policies in a room, to maintain their power and control.
Best of luck on your path.

@@KeyatzinA further comment on that post....
"I guarantee that the congregation would have clapped and been happy if the same child had said "God wants all people to live." *So its not what the child says that they are really happy about, but observing the child's "first steps" in speaking publicly about the bible...*
*Anyone who believes Jehovah's Witnesses are particularly happy when young ones comment about the death of others has never really been a Jehovah's Witness.* My grandparents were Jehovah's Witnesses, my parents are Jehovah's Witnesses. I was in the organisation for almost 40 years...
I remember my first comments at the meeting as a kid... "David felt regret" (king David after he committed adultery) and "144,000."
I remember helping my exs kids write their comments for the meetings, they had comments books. Any time their comment was a bit too intense I'd help them rephrase it.
These Scriptures show how Jehovah's Witnesses REALLY think...
      Deuteronomy 30:15,16 New Living Translation
*The Choice of Life or Death* *15“Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death,* between prosperity and disaster. 16For I command you this day to love the LORD your God and to keep his commands, decrees, and regulations by walking in his ways. If you do this, you will live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you and the land you are about to enter and occupy.
*19“Today I have given you the choice between life and death,* between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. *Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!* 20You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. Thisc is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the LORD, you will live long in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
      Ezekiel 3:18 New Living Translation
*If I warn the wicked, saying, ‘You are under the penalty of death,’ but you fail to deliver the warning,* they will die in their sins. *And I will hold you responsible for their deaths.*
      Ezekiel 18:23 New Living Translation
*“Do you think that I like to see wicked people die?* says the Sovereign LORD. *Of course not! I want them to turn from their wicked ways and live.*
      Ezekiel 33:11 New Living Translation
As surely as I live, says the Sovereign LORD, *I take no pleasure in the death of wicked people. I only want them to turn from their wicked ways so they can live. Turn! Turn from your wickedness,* O people of Israel! Why should you die?
2 Peter 3:9 New Living Translation
The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. *He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.*
      Jonah 3:1-10 New Living Translation
      Jonah Goes to Nineveh
1Then the LORD spoke to Jonah a second time: *2“Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh, and deliver the message I have given you.”*
3This time Jonah obeyed the LORD’s command and went to Nineveh, a city so large that it took three days to see it all.a *4On the day Jonah entered the city, he shouted to the crowds: “Forty days from now Nineveh will be destroyed!” 5The people of Nineveh believed God’s message, and from the greatest to the least, they declared a fast and put on burlap to show their sorrow.*
6When the king of Nineveh heard what Jonah was saying, he stepped down from his throne and took off his royal robes. He dressed himself in burlap and sat on a heap of ashes. 7Then the king and his nobles sent this decree throughout the city:
“No one, not even the animals from your herds and flocks, may eat or drink anything at all. 8People and animals alike must wear garments of mourning, and everyone must pray earnestly to God. They must turn from their evil ways and stop all their violence. *9Who can tell? Perhaps even yet God will change his mind and hold back his fierce anger from destroying us.”*
*10When God saw what they had done and how they had put a stop to their evil ways, he changed his mind and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened.*
1 Timothy 2:3-6 New Living Translation
*3This is good and pleases God our Savior, 4who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.* 5For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity-the man Christ Jesus. 6He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone.
*This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time.*

@@Keyatzin @lh1673 Well I did mention an example about how God is very positive in his view of people. *He wants all people close to him regardless of their background...*
      Hebrews 11:31 New Living Translation
It was by faith that *Rahab the prostitute was not destroyed* with the people in her city who refused to obey God. *For she had given a friendly welcome to the spies.*
      Luke 7:37,38,47,48 New Living Translation
*37When a certain immoral woman* from that city heard he was eating there, she brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume. 38Then she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping. Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them.
*47“I tell you, her sins-and they are many-have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.” 48Then Jesus said to the woman, “Your sins are forgiven.”*
Humans separated from God like to criticise each other. However, God is the parent of ALL of all of us. He doesn't favour one above another...he loves us all. But he does appreciate those who listen to him and act as he would wish.
      Matthew 5:43-48 New Living Translation
      Teaching about Love for Enemies
43“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’q and hate your enemy. *44But I say, love your enemies!r Pray for those who persecute you! 45In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.* 46If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. *47If you are kind only to your friends,s how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. 48But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.*
      Acts 10:28,34,35 New Living Translation
28Peter told them, “You know it is against our laws for a Jewish man to enter a Gentile home like this or to associate with you. *But God has shown me that I should no longer think of anyone as impure or unclean.*
*34Then Peter replied, “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism. 35In every nation he accepts those who fear him and do what is right.*
God does not look for error, he just notices it. But he focuses on those trying to do good...
      Psalms 130:3 Amplified Bible
*If You, LORD, should keep an account of our sins and treat us accordingly, O Lord, who could stand [before you in judgment and claim innocence]?*
      Luke 21: New Living Translation
      The Widow’s Offering
1While Jesus was in the Temple, he watched the rich people dropping their gifts in the collection box. *2Then a poor widow came by and dropped in two small coins.a*
3“I tell you the truth,” Jesus said, *“this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them. 4For they have given a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has.”*
      Jeremiah 17:10 New Living Translation
*But I, the LORD, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.”*
1 Samuel 16:7 New Living Translation
But the LORD said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. *The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”*
In court when a person is being judged, part of the trial is about motive. *Motive determines outcome.*
      Deuteronomy 19:4-6,11-13 New Living Translation
*4“If someone kills another person unintentionally, without previous hostility,* the slayer may flee to any of these cities to live in safety. 5For example, suppose someone goes into the forest with a neighbor to cut wood. And suppose one of them swings an ax to chop down a tree, and the ax head flies off the handle, killing the other person. In such cases, the slayer may flee to one of the cities of refuge to live in safety.
6“If the distance to the nearest city of refuge is too far, an enraged avenger might be able to chase down and kill the person who caused the death. *Then the slayer would die unfairly, since he had never shown hostility toward the person who died.*
*11“But suppose someone is hostile toward a neighbor and deliberately ambushes and murders him* and then flees to one of the cities of refuge. 12In that case, the elders of the murderer’s hometown must send agents to the city of refuge to bring him back and hand him over to the dead person’s avenger to be put to death. 13Do not feel sorry for that murderer! Purge from Israel the guilt of murdering innocent people; then all will go well with you.
**Jehovah's Witnesses therefore are taught to refrain from judgment as humans cannot truly know the heart/motive of another (although actions can betray motive, especially actions over time).**
      Matthew 7:1 New Living Translation
“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged.
      John 7:24 New Living Translation
Look beneath the surface so you can judge correctly.”

I’ve been disfellowshipped for almost 10yrs and in that 10yrs I’ve been actively at meetings and living right enough to get reinstated on 3 different occasions. Getting back has always been a goal of mine. When I saw JWs stop going house to house it caused me to slow down; when the elders told my brother he couldn’t go to a zoom meeting unless he provided a 2page letter first it caused me to get stumbled; when my brother 6months later shot and killed himself it caused me to go numb; but it wasn’t until I heard of the announcement to “no longer have to track time” and now “men can wear beards” as New Light from Jehovah-these changes are the Exact Reason why I am seriously considering writing my letter finally. But not a letter for reinstatement; no, but I want to DISSASSOCIATE myself now which is also me giving up the hope of ever ever talking to any of my family or old friends ever again. That’s sad. But I feel it’s sadder to be a part of such a hypocritical organization. I trully believe my brother would still be alive if we had grown up in any religion other than Jehovahs Witnesses. *"I am seriously considering writing my letter finally. But not a letter for reinstatement; no, but I want to DISSASSOCIATE myself"*
      Don't play Watchtower's game! Please.
If you're still disfellowshipped you're already disassociated (not by choice), and a letter will do no good and will not change anything whatsoever.
If a JW wants to fade/exit from WT, just do it. No announcements, no letters, nothing. Just leave and don't say a word. Don't follow WT's rules by sending a disassociation letter, which has the exact same effect as disfellowshipping. Many JWs have this idea that a disassociation letter to WT is a big "Gotcha!" to WT. It isn't. All it does is tell WT that the JW still sees WT as an authority, and you felt obligated to follow their rules, as if the rules were valid in the first place.
The reason you don't want to officially disassociate is this: A faded/inactive JW who no longer claims to be a JW CANNOT BE TOUCHED BY THE ELDERS. No judicial committee, no discipline at all. The congregation and organization have NO AUTHORITY over that person. This is clearly stated in the Flock book. This being the case, you can still associate with JW family and friends (although they may choose to not associate with an inactive person). The elders can't do a thing about it.
Also, do not answer any summons from the elders to meet with them. This is to trick a person into voluntarily putting themself back under the authority of the WT. Don't do it! As long as you don't acknowledge any of the Elder's claimed authority, they have none over you.

I keep saying I don't think I can be anymore shocked by 'new light" or changes made, but I continue to be. Truly shocked. How I wish my mother and aunt etc. particularly my fanatical JW mother, to whom the cruelty was the point, and the fear she held over my head, even when I was doing everything perfect, that I would be destroyed at Armageddon (I was a fully in JW then) was her whole schtick. Her narcissism fueled her judgmentalism of all, and destroyed our family. These shocking changes would have made for some mind-bending exercises for her, and I only wished she had lived long enough to see them. Her death and the reaction of those I'd known for decades as she had been a JW since 1950 was what shocked me awake. They are all gone now, leaving only myself, without children alone in the world. @@NoJediMindTrick The Watchtower is doing a 180 turn when now claiming that the people of Sodom and Gomorrah may get a second chance. The men in Sodom and Gomorrah were all evil gay men, as they demanded the right to sodomise the angel-men who came there to inspect the cities, attempting to find 10 righteous people to honour Abrahams request, so that the cities could be spared. There were no babies there, considering the men in Sodom and Gomorrah were gay and didn't even want to have sex with Lots daughters, who were offered to them instead of the Angel-men. The few women who were left were all materialistic, enjoying the lifestyle they had, enabling the men in the city to be sinful and evil. Even Lots wife turned into a salt statue on her way out of those evil cities, just because she turned back in longing for the materialistic lifestyle she had abandoned. How can the WT Governing Body claim otherwise now, considering all the times they have mentioned Lot's wife as a cautionary tale in their publications?
Matthew 10:15 only confirms that Sodom and Gomorrah will go through a final day of judgement as a town. ''14. And if anyone will not welcome you or heed your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town. 15. Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.'' Hence, there is no doubt that all the people of Sodom and Gomorrah who were visited by Angels, will face a final judgement and detriment, although their death will be not as unbearable for them as for those who had seen Jesus and His Apostles in the flesh, and still denied their teachings.
The Watchtower is trying to turn this verse into meaning that every individual who is not accepting the Watchtower Witnesses (everchanging) teachings will be judged more harshly than the people of Sodom and Gomorrah, but this is total corruption of what the Bible states, and now the Watchtower is backtracking.

It makes it easier to survive inside the cult so they don’t care that it’s completely nonsensical. Just like when they stopped preaching door to door during the pandemic. We were always told the preaching work would never stop, no matter what and it pretty much did, not because of persecution but because of fear. The messaging has changed in the last 30 years, they have gotten less dogmatic in a way. So for those of us who remember how strict it was prior, it feels like a different religion. I have another theory.... A very reasonable one, but with higher impact.
To sum it up, the new guideline regarding the lifting of the monthly reports is key to the new big announcement.
What did they eliminate by getting rid of the reports? The important answer, the ability for people to become Inactive.
Now that people can't become Inactive and "Fade away", they then made the new ruling of "You can leave if you want, and always come back later". Why? In order to make people think that the only way out now is getting DA'd or DF'd. Why? In order to basically force people to stay, because now the ONLY way out, is a way of isolation. Thus unofficially still telling everyone that they can't leave.....but to the press/public, the door is right there, and they're not extremists.
But in reality the new guideline is "You can leave if you want. As a matter of fact, we dare you to".

Wally, wouldn’t you say that the God of Jehovah’s Witnesses that has been taught by JW leadership does not make mistakes or second-guess himself, wouldn’t you say that’s a fair assessment of what they have taught for the past 140 years? I am a born in JW and I am now almost 71 and Jehovah’s Witnesses have always taught what the Bible teaches about how God cannot lie, and that he doesn’t make mistakes, or oopsies, and that would be correct, that is in harmony with what the Bible teaches, soooo all of the sudden
David Splane of the GB comes out with the audacity, gall, and impertinence with their narcissistic second-guessing Jehovah. Abraham already asked Jehovah if there was even 10 people worth saving. Well apparently Jehovah saved no one except for Lot and his two daughters, so did Jehovah judge wrong? why is David Splane second-guessing the Almighty? I believe it is a real possibility that they are trying to plug up their hemorrhaging of people. If his talk, and the talks of the other Governing Body members aren’t enough to burn your God-given spiritual conscience I don’t know what will. The Governing Body are trying to save their narcissistic megalomaniac empire.
The Governing Body are pathetically poor actors in feigning godly love toward their worshipers. It is clearly evident before the world to see they are piss poor actors. Their over exaggerated cartoonish characterizations of godly holiness, with the worst offender being Stephen Lett the Governing Body’s equivalent of Disney’s Goofy.

Glad you see the hypocrisy! Have been out for decades but realized a long time ago that we were being scammed, lied to and dumbed down by a corporate entity masquerading as a religion. I was raised in a non JW family where lies and chicanery were a constant feature of everyday life. To sense the same kind of mind screw going on in the religion was when I began to wake up. All these recent changes and strange attitudes of the GB has only reinforced my distaste for the whole rotten mess. I’ve always been irked at the childish manner the GB uses in their talks. This affectation reeks of dishonesty. Lett’s the worst but they all use the tactic of patronization as if talking to mentally challenged children.

The problem is, these changes come about a decade too late. I appreaciate their efforts into making their God, and by extension their religion, seem more merciful and easy-going. But in my opinion, the demographic who they are doing these changes for have left within the last ten years and have already sufficiently settled into the secular world, and have no desire to be part of a religion that still is fundamentally not true.

Would these be human beings without a free will after all?

Of course, the way the Society is going about this, it is bound to backfire. Clearly, the intent is to appear less like a cult. However, the Society is making these changes in the most cult-like way possible, thereby making the Society appear all the more like the cult it actually is. The "superior authorities" in such far-flung places as Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Japan and the Society's legal home of Pennsylvania are recognizing this.
In my own lifetime, the course the Society is taking here is not in itself new. It must be remembered that the Society filed an amicus curiae brief on behalf of Jimmy Swaggart with the United States Supreme Court when the state of California was attempting to collect sales tax from Swaggart for religious publications sold at his public meetings. The High Court, in an opinion written by Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor of late memory, agreed with California and ordered Swaggart to pay up. The Society responded with an end run by changing the contribution policy from suggested (with a price tag) to voluntary (without a price tag). Incidentally, this change took effect April 1, 1990, what non-witnesses regards as "All Fools' Day" or "April Fools' Day". Of course, the "joke" has ended up on the Society as now the contribution boxes are running dry and it is Jehovah's witnesses who have been made to look like the cultish fools.
The Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania (and related corporations) is doing far more to make itself look like a cult than either the governments of the world or we their citizens (including us as former witnesses) could ever do along those lines. These changes in the last few months from the annual meeting in October to the "Update" a couple of weeks ago are merely the latest demonstrations thereof.

I love your content Wally, and especially love the way you appeal to anyone who is an honestly questioning believer.
All of the points you make are very well founded.
It does seem like they are making a major purge of the deadwood in the ranks of JWs. But I wonder if they are setting up some spoilers for “new light” in the coming months.
In sodom and Gomorrah for instance, it seems possible that they might have a refinement by saying that Jehovah told Abraham that if there were 10 “righteous” people in those cities, he would spare them.
If there were not “righteous” people, they still might be in Sheol, and therefore due for consideration for resurrection. They weren’t righteous, but even though god killed them, they might be deemed worthy of another chance… therefore “Gods ways are higher than our ways”.
The WT has flip-flopped on this issue quite a few times in the last half century or more, and every time the hardcore believers accepted the changes.
I wonder if they are consolidating their ranks, and have new regrouping strategies to double down and insulate against further losses.

  • @purplehaze2765
    @purplehaze2765 8 месяцев назад +5

In the speach it was said, 'disfellowshipped ones are afraid Jehovah won't forgive them...' actually I think it's what you go through if a disfellowshipped one tries to come back. The trying to prove to the elders that you are truly worth reinstating. Sadly, the person says to the elders they want to return, but they have to come to the meetings while proving they are sencere, but are still shunned every meeting and have to leave early so not to talk to anyone etc ... The GB will have to change that policy and many elders won't like giving up the power to bully and make the disfellowshipped one jump thru hoops, even though that wasn't done to the Bibical characters who 'repented'. In the Bible, they repented, made a sacrifice and presto!, accepted back in. Personally, I wouldn't go back even if the policy changed as it would feel like going back to an emotionally abusive relationship. However, many probably would for friends, family & familiarity.

I have family members who were elders and in the past when I’d try to get reinstated, they’d call me and tell me what I needed to say. Because they want to hear you say specific things or they won’t even consider you. No consideration for people that get anxious and mix up words. That was the only time I got reinstated the first time. Because I used the phrases and answers that my elder family members told me to say.
