Well at least you didn’t go with the expensive 2TB upgrade. 512 is still a good choice, anything after that I would consider getting an external storage drive. Thank You, stay tuned for more. 👍💪
That weird USB-B connects MUCH better than the flimsy "micro-B" ports found on many external SSD or HDD enclosures. Some enclosures also use USB-A to USB-A (the regular blue rectangle). Hey Lamar, one little question: YOU HAVE INFORMATIONs FOR ME IF WITH THIS USB 3.0 4 Bay 2.5″ Hard Drive/SSD Docking Station with Fan (DS-4SSD) CAN MAKE A RAID ON macMINI or macBook or if the SSDs can used only separate ??? 🤔🤔🤔 Many thanks for a short information, greetings from Berlin Germany, Sven 🙂
Hey Sven! This one does not support raid, but I think they make one that’s similar with raid support. Nice to see more viewers from different parts of the world. 🌎👍💪
@@montysonful Here’s information I found on the product listing: DS-4SSD supports 2.5" SATA drives up to a maximum thickness of 12.5mm/0.49 Inch (2.75 Inch x 3.93 Inch x 0.49 Inch )(69.85mm x 100mm x 12.5mm) But does not support 2.5" 15mm thick drives.
the fan noise isnt bad unless the bearings are failing or something gets stuck in the fan slots. i only wish they would make a tower unit for 3.5 hard drives the song is actually "lets get naked" maybe youtube has a problem with the name "naked"
That’s just personal preference, you can always look into other options to create a raid setup. I was just showing as an idea if you already have several SSD’s loaded with files. 👍💪
I Wish it had bottom cooling also so I could set it on top my Mac Mini if wanted to get a chill there also. Maybe auto cooling for over locking or high loads
The M1 Mac Mini doesn't run very hot so you could probably set it on top without any issues. Auto cooling would have been great, but it probably would have been more expensive. 👍💪

@@rnerissa3843 Exactly! Pick up those old drives, brush them off and put them to use. It’s just so easy to access all those drives immediately, no need to swap/unplug anything.
What would be cool for benchmarks like this, is to put the SSDs (or spare dirves) in RAID to see if it improves, or even hurts performance, though with a USB 3.0 B cable i dont think you'll see any improvement. Maybe if they update it to USB-C 3.2x2 Most of these kind of adapters, in my experience, have disconnected other drives whenever a drive is added or removed, you just need to give it time, Which is hard to do with OS11, as it gets mad at you for disconnecting a drive before ejecting it. I use a different brand adapter at work to wipe drives of computers we are going to recycle/sell, and i have to make sure all drives are attached to the adapter before i start wiping, or the wipe will fail. Also if one drive finishes way before another drive(say a 240GB SSD finishes 2 hours before a 2TB HDD) i have to leave the 240GB SSD in until all drives are finished
Yeah, that’s kinda the only downside with it disconnecting if you take out a drive, but it immediately reconnects. For your method of wiping multiple drives that would definitely be an issue. Yeah, I’ve noticed that crazy disconnecting with Big Sur. So far in the latest updates it seems to not happen as often. 👍💪
So it looks like it will also be capable of holding the 5TB 15mm drives. Pretty cheap way of getting ~15TB with one dirve of redundancy. Sure you could get 4x8TB SSDs, but that would be super expensive compared to HDD
Yeah, it’s great for adding more external storage over time. To keep the expenses down you could probably mix it with some SSD and HDD. Just kinda rig up your own system lol. 😁👍💪
