    I use an old toaster w/o cloning ability instead of backup. Cloned drives are so quick to swap out and someday I would go back and fix or re-clone. I have been looking for software.. On a fixed income, I couldn't really find an easy FREE software that didn't have a lot of restrictions after the trial period at $70 or more dollars. Thanks so much for helping us.

    Great video!
    I have had this inateck device for a year, worth the price and worth having.
    I use it to clone as needed, but I have tons of old Hard Drives that I access, so it is a handy dock too.
    Also, "ALL BLUE" lights when starting to clone most likely means the destination drive capacity is smaller than the source hard drive.
    One last thing, when cloning with alternate software, I had an error "Disk Signature Collision". It's rare, but happens when cloning a cloned hard drive with your newest updated cloned hard drive. (I back up my hard drive twice a year)

    Had a hard drive toaster back in the day that was neat but limited in use-cases. Adding a clone function like this one has is a great way to be more practical, especially if that's a common task you have to do for work. Could see this being a useful workplace tool to mass deploy golden images to new systems before you configure the specifics.

    If you had two of those M.2 nvme to Sata adapters, You would be able to clone one nvme SSD to another nvme SSD, with nvme SSDs becoming more prominent, This would be useful for upgrading to a higher capacity nvme SSD down the line.

    Great video! I have a question? I just purchased an Orico docking station, that is similar to yours, I was wondering do I need to plug in the Target drive first and initialize and format it before I can clone the C drive data onto it? I am referring to a brand-new HD. I have a 2TB drive as my C drive and I just purchased a 4TB drive. It is still in the box. Both drives are 3.5 Barracuda SATA drives, my C drive is getting full, so I need to clone it over to this new 4TB drive, I am just not sure if I need to run Windows Disk Management first and initialize and format it before you can clone? I assume I do, but wanted to double-check first.

    • @PatrickDKing
      @PatrickDKing 2 года назад +2

      Best answer I have found so far is to boot your computer and using windows backup and recovery or a third party software create and image backup. This is the built in feature at least since windows 7 where you can manually or on a schedule image your entire drive with files to another internal or external drive and then restore from those backups. It's called an image because it copies all the windows programs and files installed whereas a clone is a bit for bit copying of an entire drive. Then what you would do is put a fresh install of windows on a new single drive, then when booted use the backup feature of the backup and restore and select the image you made. Windows will then copy the installed software and files but not do another install of windows. It may be possible during a fresh windows 10 install on the new drive to select an external or network drive that has your image and install from that but I've never actually done that.
      If that all fails the next best thing is what I just had to do. Copy all desktop files and folders, as well as any other folders that contain your documents, saved games, pics, vids, etc. to a separate drive. Then install windows on one drive and copy all those files back to their original locations. The downside to this method is you will have to install all programs you had before and do all the windows updates again. But depending on your motive sometimes it is nice having a fresh install on especially if you used the upgrade method from windows 7 to windows 10.
      If you subscribe to that microsoft 365 personal or family plan and your files are already default saved to the onedrive folder then you wouldn't have to copy anything, just reinstall windows and sign in with your microsoft account and then all those files will be there. But beware that many programs and games create their own default installation folders to store files like saved games, edited videos, etc.
      Good luck!

      @@PatrickDKing thanks Patrick. I like the idea of doing the image backup. I need to put some thought into my plan before proceeding. It shouldn’t be too difficult to save copies of my important files. Great advice. Thanks again.
