Taking shots from my last videos of the 611 sendoff weekend, and of course her return to the mainline, I present a sequel to the surprisingly popular first video.
Sadly because I’m only 14 and never saw her in operation in the 80s, that whistle will always be the whistle that defines 611 for me. I wish it wasn’t but it is 😂
@@harrimanfox8961 yes Union Pacific FEF-3s and Norfolk and Western J Class 4-8-4 Northerns have the same kind of whistle. They are both Hancock 3 Chimes.
N&W 611 is a fantastic piece of machinery and the whistle sound is very enjoyable to hear , the paint scheme on the locomotive 611 is very attractive with the tuscan red stripe which was applied to all the N&W j class locomotives during the steam era. I am glad that engine 611 was preserved and occasionally operates in excursion service in the modern railroading era as the 611 is one of my personal favorite eastern USA excursion service 4-8-4 type locomotives.
This is over 4 years ago Things Change I'll say that Examples: Whistle Changed again in 2016 2017 the program ended 2019 goes to Strasburg 2021 pulls new river train (Rumor)
I heard that there might be a chance that either one of the 3 steam locomotives might pull the New River Train in 2021: 765, 2716, or 611. There's also a rumor that SP 4449 might pull it!
I hate the new whistle I really do It was more disrespectful of Preston claytor to take her original whistle off of her it just pisses me off that he did that
He was annoyed with the organization, and since the whistle was his property, had every right to take it back. As much as this one lacks jn comparison to the late 90s setup.
Thats not 611's whistle, just ask (former) fireup611 chairman Preston Claytor, he will tell ya. Only he knows where the real whistle is and I will leave it at that! Hell go listen to the older audio and video from the 50's, 80's, and 90's. If thats 611's original whistle, they have some adjusting to do!
+Garrett Robson he's the reason it doesn't have the whistle, he refused to let the VMT use it since he owns it. So the VMT found one for sale and the new one for 2016 is from one of her sisters.
Mr Crocker No American locomotives had corridor tenders. AUX water tenders where a common sight on the N&W and Union Pacific toward the end of the steam era. Other railroads also used AUX tenders from time to time.
I'm at a loss for words. So beautiful!!!!

Late 90s whistle was always my favorite, sadly it wasn't able to be heard this time around.
You can still see her in service though.

Norfolk and Western J class 611 came rolling back to life in 2015.
I all most teared up from that whistle 🥲
Fr i almost did too lmao
Great compilation man! Love 611's whistle!
+Captain Justice It is a Hancock Longbell Steamboat 8" 3 chime whistle
+Erich Diebold Ah thanks!
Captain Justice The one in the video is A Union Pacific FEF-3 whistle. N&W 610's whistle is currently in use on 611

Is it just me or does this seem like a better fit for the 611?
One word describes this :Majestic!

I love that whistle 😊😊
The 611 is the best locomotive God put on this earth ‼️
the queen is telling u i'm baaaaaaaaack
I'm back Foamers & Railfans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Quoted from "I'm Back" - Arnold Schwarzenegger.
That whistle sounds so good!!!
Much appreciated. Thank you so much.
If u look hard enough it's the closest thing to the NYC Hudson streamlined engines. U have to admit it reminds me of them
Shane the short slendermen not really
Shane the short slendermen I actually used to think the Js where inspired by the Dreyfuss Hudson.
I love this whistle, but as a hardcore railman, the 1992 whistle really hits me harder than this
92-94 whistle is by far the best to me too. Wish it could have made it back on top after the restoration.
good god I love that whistle!!! 2:17
THE VOICE OF THE QUEEN!
Gorgeous beast.😍😁😊😋🙂
i wish they would have put her original whistle on her instead of an ex UP whistle
Gross Domestic Plums hold the flip on, THIS WAS A FORMER UP WHISTLE?! it suits her so well!
One way or another, this particular train class had a deep low whistle to begin with
It's an N&W whistle, which does her GREAT justice 😊😊
i perfer the UP one.
Gross Domestic Plums I'm pretty sure it's always had a Hancock 3 Chime.
its a good thing the mystery was solved around that whistle being a UP 3 instead of a NW longbell 3, closure!
Is she still running an excursions in 2020? If she is someday I wish to video the Norfolk & Western's own J Class No.611. :-)
Not running as of yet this year due to covid. If anything happens, will be later on or 2021

611 is like Gordon when he races fast on the mainline.
You mean the American version of Gordon?
Yeah.
Chef Ramsay is not a steam engine. He does steam fish though
UP whistle. It's like the voice of 844 dubbed in over 611.
+Railfan Jason Almost sounds like Southern Pacific #4449.
Maybe if 4449 had a UP whistle...
611 did carry a UP whistle in 2015, but now she has her sister 610's whistle.
i think the 90s whistle sounds the best and it is the *legend*
The 2015 whistle was SP 4449's old whistle. I was told this by 4449's crew, including Doyle L. McCormack himself!
She loves the railfans
Steam locomotives r work horses and they have the best whistles depending on what the Steam locomotive is like the big boy 4014 for example
what about the 1992 whistle.
This was all footage I shot from 2015 onward.
Wow!

Quella che assomiglia alla 740...
Why wasn’t she going as fast as she was on her test run?
Excursions had a set road speed limit per NS. Test run was more flexible, no one on board except crew, and the speed was needed for a shakedown run.
@@SCL3618 well then I say NS needs to increase those speed limits
@@amtrak_121 It's a liability at that point, so not going to happen. NS has been out of the steam game since 2017.

Why does she have 2 tenders just like the flying Scotsman
Bryan West one is her normal tender the other one is her auxiliary tender
