    I have had cockateils for years. Just adopted a 2-3 year old female ringneck. Your channel is quite helpful. I do hope once she settles in she will not flap out of the cage and Mayne she'll make some sounds. I heard the loud scream a.couple of times, but mostly she is silent

    • @Riccothegreenpiedirn
      @Riccothegreenpiedirn  Год назад

      Thank you. How long have you had her for? It does take time for them to settle in to a unfamiliar home. Just keep talking to her softly and make slow movements around her. It also helps to have her cage in a corner that is at eye level so she doesn’t feel threatened. Offering her treats and food will help to gain her trust and she will start to associate you with something positive.
      Also when she does scream try to figure out what is causing her to do so, that way you can help her if it’s from fear. She will come around, just give her time. Thank you for rescuing her ❤️

    I adopted my IRN from a parrot rescue about 3 months ago. I took her to the vet, she's about 2.5. Shw started to learn to speak, saying peekaboo and good bay, be a good 🎉 for the past week all she does is scream and she tries to bite me. Any idea why?
    She hasn't tried to come out of her cage today, becoming threatening if I even look at her. Usually, she comes out and likes to cuddle. I did notice there are some gewrhwrs around, nit sure but think she might be molting.

    • @Riccothegreenpiedirn

      A couple of questions, are they the same age, did you get them at the same time and do you have them in the same cage? If you do have them in the same cage I would highly recommend you put them in a separate cage immediately as the female ringneck parrots are know to kill the males if they dislike them. If she is showing these behaviours already she could seriously hurt him and it also will cause him stress in the meantime. You can still have them interact, but only when supervised until they become bonded or except each other. Also are you wanting to breed them?

    Thank you so much for your videos. They have been extremely helpful. I have had my ringneck since February and he/she was not hand reared. It's taken us a while to be able to stand close to the cage and talk to he/she. We have taken our baby out the cage, but it is very difficult getting it back in again. Our baby is still scared when we open the cage to get food bowls out and to clean, but there's been much improvement from where we were. Our baby is approximately 10/11 months old now.
    One thing our baby has been doing with me is when I'm talking to he/she, it comes real close to my face and slightly moves its wings almost like in a little dance. It doesn't open its wings completely. Just slightly moves them close to its body up and down. Is that normal?
    We will continue our journey with taming and bonding and trust. It's been quite interesting and hard work too.

    what to do when they chew clothes and papers??

    • @Riccothegreenpiedirn
      @Riccothegreenpiedirn  2 года назад

      Paper is safe as long as it doesn’t have ink on it or you can provide your bird with natural safe wood to chew on, it’s natural they do it in the wild.

      Ricco is a green pied mutation, they do not develop the ring and his eyes will remain dark giving him the baby look forever . A lot of people are not familiar with these types of mutations because they are rare, I actually have a video all about him in my playlist 😊

    1:45 MIRROR ?????, NEVER LET A BIRD LOOK IN A MIRROR, THEY THINK IT'S THEIR MATE AND TEND TO GET SEXUALLY FRUSTRATED

    • @Riccothegreenpiedirn
      @Riccothegreenpiedirn  8 месяцев назад

      Every bird is different and reacts differently to things such as mirrors. If your bird does show hormonal behaviours towards an object or mirror I do agree it’s best to not allow them access to it. In Ricco’s case he is limited to mirrors and will always pick me over a mirror any day.

    I live in Kona I have no avian vet because there’s very there is one but he’s very dirty and the other avian vet is no longer practicing. So I basically look at videos read, etc. Unfortunately my bird she’s a female her name is Hoku she’s four years old did lay some unfertilized eggs I let her sit on them and for the 21 days the problem I got rid of them without her seeing me doing it ! She wasn’t ready to get rid of them so she was very angry with me bit me where she drew blood… She’s finally de escalating from it she’s still biting me, but it’s not as much or as hard ! She’ll fly on my shoulder and just hanging out then she’ll just bite my ear and it hurts. How do I stop this?

      If she’s hormonal their are some things you can do such as changing her diet, try to avoid warm mushy foods and to much sugary fruits, you need to mimic as if it was winter. So more sleep, at least 14 hours of darkness and remove anything that could be causing her to be hormonal, dark spots etc. it will pass, but hopefully by making some adjustments it will help somewhat.
