Oh watermelon and cantaloupe is a favourite of Ricco’s as well and pomegranates but it makes such a mess lol. I’ve recently tried giving Ricco cooked quinoa and he seems to love it. Aww thank you 🥰 It’s amazing how they can adapt to different environments and climate. Other parts of the country they will feed on nuts, berries, seeds and fruits if available . The ringneck parrot who survived the winter in Canada before being rescued also survived off of berries and tree buds.

This is such a helpful video. When i got my indian ringneck i was almost paranoid about what to do with his diet. He was on a exclusive nut/seed/dried fruit blend. I've got a massive nut allergy so i didnt want peanuts literally being flown around the house. So i initially contained it to the cage, and gave him fresh food outside, which he is for the majority of the day. I quickly got some Harrisons pellets, which still have nuts but dont have the dust problem. But from a early visit with the Vet for a nail and beak trim, ive switched to Nutriberries as his main fats source. They're excellent. And my avian vet told me not to worry too much about providing all foods all at once, just provide what you brought that week. Pick one tropical fruit, and once dark green veg, one veg with carotene, and just mix it up weekly. This video is so helpful to know what is safe, how much and how when x

@@Riccothegreenpiedirn Thank you :). Hes not really gone for the Harrisons (i'm not surprised really) but i still offer them with the nutriberries. I only offer 5 berries in the morning and 5 berries early evening, mostly to get him to go in there lol. He gets kale, carrots and some leafy green during the day mostly and apple, which is like crack lol. It depends whats in season. I normally offer his favourite, which is grape or mango in the evening when he goes into his cage. I dont know what it is but he wont go in at night. He'll go in all day, but he hates it at night?? any advice?

I put news paper on the table so he can enjoy it and make a mess. I did try passion fruit before, but he didn’t seem to enjoy it. Both are safe as well as the seeds, just be sure to properly wash them and you may also want to remove the skin to be safe. Also try to get the sweet ripe ones. Hope your parrot enjoys 😊
Just got a ringneck, a beautiful green bird. Someone wanted to let him/her go into the wild, and they’re very clearly tamed so I agreed to take them. Need to take it to the vet as I’m not sure if they’re male or female, although no ring around the neck but perhaps still young. Your videos are super helpful. I do have a question if you could answer, we keep seeds in their cage and they don’t stop eating, I’m not sure if we should only place it in certain times of the days - or we can keep the seeds in the cage. We’ll give fresh fruits and veggies as snacks. Thank you!
Aww thank you for taking him in. I only give Ricco seeds as treats and pellets, fresh fruits, vegetables and a variety of healthy foods daily to make up the nutrients he needs. Seeds are extremely fatty foods and is like junk food so it should be limited. If he is on a all seed diet he definitely needs a lot of vegetables, fruits and other foods to help keep him healthy.

It is safe to hold bouquets of flowers in the room such as tulips/roses ? Not for eating just for display. Would it be safe/toxic for parrots ? Thanks ❤
If they are naturally grown they are safe. If they are store bought I’d be concerned about the pesticide or chemicals that were used. As long as your bird is not eating them you should be fine just having them in the same room.

I brought 2 ring neked parrots from crawford market in mumbai and it has been only a week and one died and other one is just sleeping and not doing anything i took him to a doctor today and he told me to not to buy them from that market where they are kept together and they must be suffering from viral and bacterial infection he gave all the medication like multivitamin and birds need drops i hope atleast he survives somehow but doctor told its not guaranteed that he will survive please guys dont buy from those markets where they are kept together in a small cage I brought them for my mother but 😢 hope the other one survives trying my best

Hi I need your help please I have been given a ringed neck yesterday as it was attacked by a eagle and fell to ground it has a ring around his neck halfway So approximately how old is he and why does he eat and sleep drink water and repeat 😅I want him to be happy and healthy can you please help me out with my worry 😢
Is this a wild bird or could it be someone’s lost pet. If someone’s pet I’d post on lost and found birds as someone must be really missing him. For now he should be taken to a vet if he was attacked by birds to make sure he is okay.
It's a wild bird it was found by our electrician lying on the roadside stunned and since I have a 7 year African Grey he gave it to us we checked for wounds cuts bruises none whatsoever little champ eats and sleeps is so tiny compared to our African Grey Muffin
You can feed them boiled eggs, I do especially when Ricco is molting. Otherwise it’s best not to over do, it also depends on what their diet is in general and what they may be missing. But I usually may give Ricco some twice a month when he’s not molting just to mix up his diet. I serve Ricco the entire egg, just be sure it’s properly cooked.
Frozen vegetables are safe, it’s just important to read the ingredients to make sure they don’t have added ingredients like sallt or unhealthy preservatives. Personally I prefer fresh and freeze them myself, but in some case’s they are ok.
Sorry for the late reply, I just saw this. I always recommend trying to get your bird to eat foods that they normally wouldn’t eat first thing in the morning when they are hungry. Oh yes of course. Anything I mentioned in this video that is safe you can feed your ringneck parrot, just make sure it’s all in moderation especially with fruits.
I prefer to give Ricco other nuts such as almonds and pine nuts. You can feed your bird peanuts, it’s the shell that you need to be careful about as they may carry mold if they are not stored properly. If you do want to feed your bird peanuts just buy the ones that are good for humans as well to be safe.

@@Fatma_Deshmukh. most birds will eat and love anything that is not healthy for them lol. A little taste every so often will not hurt him, but I wouldn’t recommend giving it to him often as they are not good for them long term. You are better off giving him or making him natural cookies without any sugar.
Those bells and rope toys are unsafe . The fiber of the rope can cause severe problems and they can get their beek stuck in the bell and posably breaking their beek... buy natural wood toy or stainless steel...
Ricco does not chew on them, he never has. If he did I would definitely remove it, I’m very aware of these things and have mentioned this in another video.
What do you think about hemp, flax and chia seeds. My alexandrine eats a lot of those but he hates broccoli and leafy greens. I'm getting stressed out because now his feathers are turning grey. 😭😭😭
If you do see a change in his feather colouring I’d get him to the vets for a check up just to be safe or at least give them a call for an opinion . Could you try mixing it all up and just sprinkle grounded hemp, flax and chia seeds so that way he has no choice to mix through the veggies and hopefully will get some. I personally would feed him his greens when he’s most hungry before getting anything else. Does he eat pellets at all?

I brought 2 ring neked parrots from crawford market in mumbai and it has been only a week and one died and other one is just sleeping and not doing anything i took him to a doctor today and he told me to not to buy them from that market where they are kept together and they must be suffering from viral and bacterial infection he gave all the medication like multivitamin and birds need drops i hope atleast he survives somehow but doctor told its not guaranteed that he will survive please guys dont buy from those markets where they are kept together in a small cage I brought them for my mother but 😢 hope the other one survives trying my best

Is this a wild bird or could it be someone’s lost pet. If someone’s pet I’d post on lost and found birds as someone must be really missing him. For now he should be taken to a vet if he was attacked by birds to make sure he is okay.
It's a wild bird it was found by our electrician lying on the roadside stunned and since I have a 7 year African Grey he gave it to us we checked for wounds cuts bruises none whatsoever little champ eats and sleeps is so tiny compared to our African Grey Muffin

You can feed them boiled eggs, I do especially when Ricco is molting. Otherwise it’s best not to over do, it also depends on what their diet is in general and what they may be missing. But I usually may give Ricco some twice a month when he’s not molting just to mix up his diet. I serve Ricco the entire egg, just be sure it’s properly cooked.

I was wondering if frozen vegetables like kale spanach are safe for parrots diet ?
Frozen vegetables are safe, it’s just important to read the ingredients to make sure they don’t have added ingredients like sallt or unhealthy preservatives. Personally I prefer fresh and freeze them myself, but in some case’s they are ok.

Sorry for the late reply, I just saw this. I always recommend trying to get your bird to eat foods that they normally wouldn’t eat first thing in the morning when they are hungry. it basically a seed eater and most he like guava seed tomato seed watermelon and melon seed cucumber but guava seed he like very much
It’s important to feed your bird vegetables and greens as well, seeds alone will not provide a bird the proper nutrients.

Oh yes of course. Anything I mentioned in this video that is safe you can feed your ringneck parrot, just make sure it’s all in moderation especially with fruits.

I prefer to give Ricco other nuts such as almonds and pine nuts. You can feed your bird peanuts, it’s the shell that you need to be careful about as they may carry mold if they are not stored properly. If you do want to feed your bird peanuts just buy the ones that are good for humans as well to be safe.

A little taste every so often will not hurt him, but I wouldn’t recommend giving it to him often as they are not good for them long term. You are better off giving him or making him natural cookies without any sugar.

Those bells and rope toys are unsafe . The fiber of the rope can cause severe problems and they can get their beek stuck in the bell and posably breaking their beek... buy natural wood toy or stainless steel...
Ricco does not chew on them, he never has. If he did I would definitely remove it, I’m very aware of these things and have mentioned this in another video.

What do you think about hemp, flax and chia seeds. My alexandrine eats a lot of those but he hates broccoli and leafy greens. I'm getting stressed out because now his feathers are turning grey. 😭😭😭
If you do see a change in his feather colouring I’d get him to the vets for a check up just to be safe or at least give them a call for an opinion . Could you try mixing it all up and just sprinkle grounded hemp, flax and chia seeds so that way he has no choice to mix through the veggies and hopefully will get some. I personally would feed him his greens when he’s most hungry before getting anything else. Does he eat pellets at all?
