- We imagine there was a time where 1JZs or LSs were super cheap and plentiful, which is exactly why they became so popular to swap in the first place. So what’s the cheap, hot swap right now? Honda’s K series, duh. And since Touge Factory has every last part you need to make your K swap a reality, it’s no surprise that their own swapped BMW E30 has us thinking all kinds of bad thoughts of extra project cars to buy.

I have found and saved the rarest Mazda FC RX7 ever made! Now this car is rare. Really rare! Let me break this down really quick...
Ever heard of the rare 100 GTUs rx7s? Only 40 have ever been claimed and only 7 are confirmed at the time of this posting! Here are the rarest rx7 FC3S models:
1500 10AE Turbo models
1400 infini
1000 winning limited
150 final edition convertible
100 GTUs...
out of that 100:
83 red on black
10 black on black
7 white on blue
There was only 100 GTUs models created between 1989 and 1991.

There are rumors about a restamped GTUs model...
The entire origins GTUs owners thread on the rx7club was modified, icemarks claims deleted, registry list changed to have a confirmed section and the mods agree there are not enough GTUs models to have the restamped.
Icemark cites himself while making up the claims almost 20 years ago. 😆
There are no restamped GTUs models, only GTU. Stop spreading false information. There are only 100 GTUs models made, only 40ish have been claimed to have been found, only 7 have been confirmed!

@Brian Stafford there’s no cheap and tunable BMW i4 tho. There is the BMW S14 that’s in the E30 M3, but that costs as much as a Ferrari engine right now. I suspect this build is trying to replicate the DTM M3 which had a high rev i4, and the only engines that have that capability while being relatively cheap are Honda motors.
If you wanna build a powerful E30, can swap an S54, but I suspect it won’t handle as good as fitting an i4 due to the increased overall weight and messed up weight distribution.

If they make the mounts and kit for an e36 I will scrape all my plans for a turbo setup or LS swap, sell my s52, and buy their kit
Problem is E36 is a rear sump car, so you drop a K in and the oil pump sits on your steering rack. But there are a few E36s with K swaps already, but it's harder to do than in an E30
Hit then up bro, people swap S52s into e30s all the time so the mounts should be similar

@@dubbleA100 for s52 swap in e30 people use oil pan with front sump from m50 that came in e34, so that why it wouldn't work in e36 because e36 have back sump..but they use e36 mounts in e30s so that part would work fine
Search alex.car.life on Instagram. He has a k24 turbo E36 track Monster. It's making 500hp and it did a sub 8 min on the nurburgring.
It uses the stock 328 manual trans (with an adapter for the k engine)

tbh if you slap inline 4 engine in e30 that has similar specs as original S14 in M3. yeah it looks like a M3. This K24 probably has more HP than M3 did.
@@DuBstep115 Yeah but the defining thing that "looks like" an M3 is the box flares, and this car very pointedly doesn't have them. It looks like an M3 if you haven't spent an hour looking at E30s on the internet.

Hoonigan autofocus is honestly underrated. Larry’s video of the rebellion forge e30 last year literally inspired me to buy and e30. Now mine is looking like this one. Keep up the good work!

As an e30 owner with an s52, I fully approve of this build 👍 I would be curious how this swap would match up against the s52 with the higher revs but slightly lower torque. I guess only time will tell. As always awesome content Larry.
Don't forget that it's waaaaaay lighter.
I can definitely relate to opening the hood of an E30 with a really long screwdriver. Definitely tempted to K swap it, but it will be a while before I have enough mechanical experience to pull off an engine swap.
kpower's kit is literally plug and play including mounts, harness, oil pan, intake, flywheel, adapter, headers, etc.
Like first guy said. If you get a quality swap kit, and follow instructions, it's not as hard as you'd think. Don't cheap out on the swap kit tho

definitely a lovely build but my OCD can't get over how bad the door sits.
Or the dash rattles. I know it's harder to fabricate oem style motor mounts but poly mounts don't belong in anything nice.
or the rust under the hood and between fender/bumper and the zip ties to hold the front grill...
Well it’s more of functionbuild. It’s a track car. They rattle and they are built to easily work on hence zip ties. And the door sits like that because he doesn’t have the Correct door pod for the quarter pod/skirt he is running
@@zaccannon5572 I don't own an e30 but my cousin does. I didn't knew ab these door pods and besides that, I fully understand that this is a track build. The dash rattling and zip ties play a huge role in racing if you ask me. Anyhow to me, it's still uncommon to see a door sit like that. Anyways thanks for the answer and have a nice day :)

I respect all builds, this is nice. Not something I would ever do, kinda love the m20 heart… but it’s nice that there’s people willing to take the alternate route

not a bad car but man the body gaps and random rivets are kinda all over the place. would be cool do see it done up with a nicer body and more finishing.
I had no idea this kit existed, kmiata/garagistic are the only kits that get mentioned right now, and garagistic isn't even finished.
Late model rad might help with the coolant pipe running across the top (but the bottom looks like it would have to do the same), the expansion tank issue, and future rad upgrades to something like an S54 Z3M for people going FI.
Z4 steering rack is manual with in-column electric assist, as a manual rack in such a light car it might feel better than a disconnected assisted rack.
Hilarious how good it sounds with the stock exhaust, almost sounds like the M20 is still there. I think the "honda" exhaust note is the most feared downside of this swap for people considering it (obviously doesn't include purists).
The K series is such a good powerplant for this car. Pretty much any other common swap adds weight to the front end which just makes the balance worse. It's so easy to pull weight out of the rear of an e30, and this swap really would be able to take advantage of that.
This was exactly my thinking I swapping a k24/k20 into my 318is rn. Was originally planning s54 but just loved the idea of keeping a 4 banger with near 300hp and not disturbing the balance of the car. Can’t wait till it’s complete.

Went into this thinking I would hate the car. A Honda motor in a BMW, WTF??!!! Turns out I really admire this build. The motor sounds so good in this car and, aesthetically, really well put together. Guess it's true what they say, never judge a book by its cover.

My first car was an 91 E30 my dad surprised me with. It was the absolute funniest car to drive. Not alot power but a blast
That car probably feels great to drive. I think the big draw for the 318iS, which was a inline 4, was the light front end..... And fuel economy 🙄. This seems like it would be similar to the E30 M3. The S14 in the M3 was also a NA 4 with over 200hp. BMW people don't get mad at me for the comparison... just saying a lighter front with good suspension. Not M3 suspension obviously...
The M42 motor was probably the best factory match for the car. I'll get flamed for this but the M20s hate revving and the M10s sucked ass (cam oil starvation, no power). And yes, I managed 42 mpg, trying. Super reliable car, too.

same... kinda wish they'd left the body alone tbh... motor swap is done so clean, it kinda sux seeing all that crap riveted/glued/welded to the car. I guess one nice thing about those "over fenders" is, you could start with a car that doesn't have to have nice body/paint.. haha

Nice. I ended up putting in a rebuilt 1996 sr20det with higher compression, with a mini supercharger and bigger turbo. Gets a nice 450rwkw/600hp at rear wheels. Runs the qtr in under 9. Still looks like my grandparents car, but tyres, hidden exhausts, tint and welding unseen.
Unfortunately, it was stolen and found burnt out.
So, now I am considering getting a fkn horse

I would prefer the original engine, because I like the sound of a german straight six, but the K24 is a good and reliable engine and has more power than the original. I'm not saying that I don't the car, because the E30 BMW is one of my favorite cars. Good job!

That is an awesome build. Bam 8k!!! I hope the motor had some heat in it already! Used to have a Prelude with an H22A (JDM) swap and LSD... I never should have sold it... The H series was awesome too, just less common.

When you're Japanese and in love with German cars. Just put a k24 in a bmw.
I was about to comment on how engines that crave high RPM and have no torque seem weird in a BMW, then remembered that the M20 at least, even if it's an I6, needs RPM and doesn't have oodles of torque either. I can't speak about the S14 and if it needs high RPM or not, only driven the I6 version of the E30, it was weird for someone used to low RPM cars with torque from the start.
Finally a reliable BMW!
What is the weight difference between an m20 and k24 ? I can see the weight reduction being a big help

K swap is awesome but you're blind if you think that looks like a E30 m3, totally different, I see both side by side all the time. The only thing similar is the overall shape, doors, maybe wheels and hood/front bumper(sometimes)
Gonna have to agree. Other than the grille, the real E30 M3 fenders are a look all their own.

Love the car but try an old M3 body replica design. The lines are much smoother and flow with the car better. I am sure copyright isn't an issue by now.
i would be interested to know how he got the k20 to fit the e30 transmission and if he went turbo would he have to swap to a different trans and drivetrain to hold up to say 5-600+ whp or more??

Much better balance in the car now rather than having a big heavy 6 cylinder more like the e30 touring cars with there 4 cylinder but with even more tuning potential.
Hell there were at least 315k Acura TSX/wagons sold in the US between 2003-2014. That's a lot of K series. That doesn't even count Worldwide numbers.

The kit is already expensive. $5500 without the engine for 20more hp then an m20
I'm sure that that must be a 325i and not a 325iS, iirc the 325iS was only available in South Africa as a substitute for the M3 we didn't get, and was actually stroked by BMW South Africa to 2.7 litre. But I could be wrong, I don't know of any other countries having a 325iS, if it is an American 325iS its probably just a 2.5 though with extra trim... Idk. Still super cool though.
M20b25 pretty reliable motor. But I would go for a k swap just for better weight distribution and cheaper performance parts. Line it up with a s52 swapped e30 😎

Idk why the K swap E30/E36/E46 isnt a more common thing since the K swap RWD kits mostly use BMW ZF transmissions
