    I for "ee" is a good tip. We also tend to get this sound for words borrowed from Italian, where it´s also pronounced the same way, such as spaghetti, ravioli, and tiramisu!

      It is interesting that "ee" is the sound for "i" in Bahasa Indonesia also!

    We definitely have a dark L in English, but only in post-vocalic position, like in "bell" (if you pronounce that English word with a "bright" L, you sound French! 😂) In Portuguese we have to learn to make it, for example, in word-initial position also, which for most English speakers is not natural.

    • @speakeuropeanportuguese
      @speakeuropeanportuguese 7 месяцев назад +2

      I realised after watching this that all of my 'L's even in English are dark. Maybe it is because I am from the North of the UK. Being from the North certainly helps to get a great Portuguese accent.

    • @Krka1716
      @Krka1716 7 месяцев назад +2

      Although the 'dark' L may be dominant in most Euro Portuguese pronunciations, the 'bright' L is also used in Portugal in some accents, notably many Azorean ones. So either way it will sound 'real world' Portuguese.😊

      @@speakeuropeanportuguese Very true! There are many English dialect areas that have only dark L -- in some parts of the UK it is often taken to the extreme and vocalized, so almost an [o] or [w].

    Dropping the 'H' is just like we do in Liverpool, so it was very easy for me to do. People in the Algarve are actually scousers. 😁😁 They also say 'bem bom' in portuguese which translates as 'well good' in English. Also sounds very Scouse!

      There are over 200 million Brazilian Portuguese speakers vs. 10 million European Portuguese speakers. Brazilian Portuguese is as valid as European Portuguese and better to learn if you will more likely be conversing with Brazilians or random Portuguese speakers. Pick European if you will be moving to Portugal.

      The origin of the English language is - guess what - in present-day England and the arrival of Anglo-Saxon tribes from Central Europe to the British Isles in 400 AD. Your poor , limited and stupid logic says that we should study only British English and forget about the variations American linguistics? Australian? Canadians? Can I forget New Zealand?

      @@NoonyNewborn So... now you know!😊
      The Suevi tribes, likely originating from the same people as the Swabians of south Germany, settled in the west of Iberia and ruled from circa 400 to 700, what was known as the 'Regnum Suevorum' (possibly the first independent christian kingdom in western Europe). They brought their culture and customs and likely influenced the romance spoken in those regions which eventually has become the Portugues language.
      I have been told by a country fellow of yours that the Swabian dialect had some phonetic traits like the sound of the portuguese nasal diphthong 'ão'...🤫

    • @NoonyNewborn
      @NoonyNewborn 7 месяцев назад

      @@Krka1716 Oh wow, thank you so much. This is so much more digestible than Wikipedia 🤣 funny thing: I come from this southern German area called Swabia. But I can't speak the accent they have here, as my mother spoke "high German" with me. It's really funny that this comparison exists with the sound 🤣 I'm gonna pay attention to that. If you know more and enjoy expanding on what you said, please feel free 😊

    I need a tip for a M at the end of words - for example: sim / tem / homem. Some people say its unpronounced, others that its like an "ing" in (British) English.
