  • - "Love Minus Zero/No Limit" is a song written by Bob Dylan and performed here by Rod Stewart. It was originally for Dylan's fifth studio album "Bringing It All Back Home", released in 1965. The song was originally written as a tribute to Dylan's future wife Sara Lowndes. The song's main musical hook is a series of three descending chords, while its lyrics describe Dylan's infatuation with his lover, and how she brings a needed zen-like calm to his chaotic world. The song uses surreal imagery, some of which recalls Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" and the Biblical Book of Daniel. The style of the lyrics is reminiscent of William Blake's poem, "The Sick Rose". This is a superb version, not usually a Rod Stewart fan but this can bring a tear to your eye. You actually get a feel of what the words mean. All credit to Bob Dylan, for such fantastic lyrics

That line is AMAZING, LOVE this cover, Rod has ALWAYS covered DYLAN suberbly and Dylan is all the richer for it,. Bob is a true poet and Rod is an amazing interpreter with a God given voice.

Kind of Rod's over the top approach. lacks soul. A great song. This is a poor rendition. Nice try Rod, thanks for playing.

Beautiful... Thanks for posting. I think I first heard this on the Princess Diana Tribute CD in 1997. Still moves me to this day. Rod does a great job interpreting this song and not just merely covering it as other artists have done. Thanks again...

    Lyrics
My love she speaks like silence,
    Without ideals or violence,
She doesn't have to say she's faithful,
Yet she's true, like ice, like fire.
    People carry roses,
    Make promises by the hours,
My love she laughs like the flowers,
    Valentines can't buy her.
In the dime stores and bus stations,
    People talk of situations,
    Read books, repeat quotations,
    Draw conclusions on the wall.
    Some speak of the future,
    My love she speaks softly,
She knows there's no success like failure
And that failure's no success at all.
    The cloak and dagger dangles,
    Madams light the candles.
    In ceremonies of the horsemen,
Even the pawn must hold a grudge.
    Statues made of match sticks,
    Crumble into one another,
My love winks, she does not bother,
She knows too much to argue or to judge.
    The bridge at midnight trembles,
    The country doctor rambles,
    Bankers' nieces seek perfection,
Expecting all the gifts that wise men bring.
The wind howls like a hammer,
The night blows cold and rainy,
My love she's like some raven
At my window with a broken wing.

Oh yeah, Dylan does it so SO BEAUTIFULLY?!?!?! Can't imagine how out of place his voice would be on this lovely tribute to the world's Princess..... This is exactly how it should have been done for this tribute album. I have loved Dylan's music for 50 years, but refuse to say his voice is melodious. You either love Rod's voice and his orchestral take on some songs or you don't, obviously, you don't. No woop

Yeah, that's why at 76 he still sells out arenas and people pay thousands of dollars to see him and has number 1 hits in his home country from his last 3 self penned albums. You have a right to your opinions and taste in music, but they are not in the majority. OBVIOUSLY

Rod Stewart has had some memorable moments in music, this is one of them. It's the worst interpretation of Dylan's classic I've seen on U-tube.it ruins the tempo and intent of the song.it not only is an insult to Dylan,it is an insult to anyone listening!this sucks!

    • @RodStewartFan
      @RodStewartFan 3 года назад +1

As a MAJOR Dylan fan of 50 years, I totally disagree. He recorded it for this tribute and slowed it down and made it more of a loving tribute to a Princess than what Bob had intended. Also you need to edit your comment as it starts off saying a positive statement about this being one of Rod's memorable moments....
