18:13 The reason Fozzie is there in the car section is he's hoping to see his Studebaker from the Muppet Movie! "A bear in his natural habitat, a Studebaker!"
I have never been to the Smithsonian so I can't judge what You missed or left out but I think You did a great job of presenting this section and I really liked how You gave details on each part of the video. I am handicapped and not able to go to places like this and rarely get a chance to even go to the store. When I was younger I lived in Hawaii and went some cool places, now I depend on people like you to help me escape the everyday boredom. I will be following your channel.
Did some investigating. The items you said were missing are indeed gone. That exhibit closed and was replaced by others things. Sadly it’s gone but happily you saw new items that replaced them.
My granddad was part of some of the lunch counter sit ins in Durham. He was actually the NAACP youth secretary for Durham or maybe the whole triangle region
@@TheCarpetbagger There’s an interview with him on RUclips by the SF Chronicle I think, (or just on their website) his name’s Walter Riley and he’s a Civil Rights lawyer now
The Smithsonian was beyond Impressive. I could've spent a month there and still not see everything they had....There were 14 buildings back in 1986,and I'm sure there's even more than that now.
Fun fact about the crash test dummies in that commercials, one of the dummies was voiced by the legendary voice actors lorenzo music, the voice actor of garfield.
I just saw on the Smithsonian website, that they’re coming out with a new exhibition in December of this year, called “Entertainment Nation” where the muppets, the Bunker’s chairs, and many more pop culture things will come out of storage to be in this new exhibition. It’ll be all about TV, movies, music, etc. I’m sad because I’m going to DC in October with my school and this is opening in December and I would’ve really loved this. Jacob, please go back to DC and go through that exhibition!!
Not gonna lie… I waited the entire time for those Ruby Slippers here. Rofl 🤣😂 They’re one of the biggest reasons I want to go to the Smithsonian so badly. I love The Wizard of Oz! I once had the luck to see one of Judy Garland’s Dorothy dresses in person at Disney World and… well… I just… I cried. I was so excited and the emotions just overwhelmed me. Lol 😂
Kermit The Frog, Fonzie’s Jacket and Archie Bunker’s Chair. All great American relics that were missing. Glad you went to my favorite museum. So happy to see Julia Child’s kitchen. Thank you!
I don't know if you ever seen the documentary or not but watch February One: The Story Of The Greensboro Four. It's about the 4 black guys who was in the diner that day. All but 1 is dead. The other 3 guys were interviewed for the documentary. It is worth watching. I enjoyed it
What a wonderful Museum of American History in Washington DC! You brought us the best of the exhibitions on that particular day! Thank you Jacob! Cheers from Old Highway 66!
Thanks for this, Jacob. I've been into the American History museum, but didn't get far because I wasn't feeling so well & got sick. One of these days it'd be nice to revisit it, when I'm felling better. Meantime, I'll mention that I have been all the way through the Smithsonian Air & Space museum, & always look forward to going back. Hopefully you'll record a video visit there, as well.
I had a crash test dummies toy set as a kid. It was a car that crumbled when you smashed it. The dummy figures you put in the car limbs and head would pop off in the accident.
The traffic jam looks like Charleston..all the container trucks heading to the the Port of Charleston!! LOL..Museum of American History is on my bucket list. must be a huge building to house all of these artifacts and vehicles!
Love watching your video’s, have been watching your channel for awhile, it always nice watching your videos in the morning because it keeps me optimistic the rest of my day! 😄
When I came here from az I was surprised they had mentioned Native Americans. I am fully and when I saw that sign I posed in front of it lol for all my fam that could never see it
What a great museum, I think we only did a quick walk through of this one and I'd love to go back. I remember the missing things as well; wonder what's up?
I was there in October it was amazing I’m a history fanatic I went to four of the museum American History,Air and space museum,American 🖼 museum, and American National Art museum all four were great I wish I could go back
For the pop culture exihbit, I believe most of the artifact are being in storage for the time being whether it's for preservation or new artifact/exhibit are coming it's way. Not sure if they will have a comeback, but keep in mind that all Smithsonian museum do get new artifact and sometimes things will changes to educate the public with new things.
These were the museum i traveled to as a kid. They sparked my love for America an History it’s just so amazing to go back look back and revisit old and new additions the Smithsonian’s are truly something wonderful. I highly recommend the National Museum of African American History and Culture it is a site to see indeed.
Wished you would have shown the two steam locomotives, a little more in depth on them like where they came from and the history in them as well as the trolley car other than that loved the video thanks
When my younger brother visits, we occasionally go to DC museums. I remember going once after we stayed up late the night before. We both fell asleep on that fake subway car. We also paid to fall asleep in a planetarium show in the Air and Space museum. Good times 😂
YES! MORE ROUTE 66!!! i plan on doing that drive when i graduate nursing school at the end of summer !!! im still looking for good places to stop at along the way!

The last car you show in the traffic jam brings back so many memories. It's a 1979 honda Civic.I bought that car in 1988 on my 16th birthday.I loved that car it was basically a supped up go cart.Hahaha
I think that the fozzie/car connection is him singing movin' down the road in the Muppet Movie. But for what ever reason I heard him say "ITZA STAY SHUN WAAAGON! (ear wiggle)" in my head for some reason when he came on screen
Going to DC for my honeymoon in July. We have tickets to tour the White House, FBI building and the capital. What else should we tour? Best restaurants?
@@mollysmith1226 some of the best food in DC is on the mall, all the mobile food trucks The museum of air and space in the museum of natural history two of my favorite museums
Another great video!! Always wanted to go up there and tour those museums, I know you had mentioned the space museum was closed but does that one have one of the shuttles? In Sacramento in Old Town they have a great trains museum, we toured it in October. Keep up the great work
The American History Museum was my favorite Smithsonian museum me and my family visited, my brother was disappointed cus the Ruby Slippers were off display for cleaning and that was the one exhibit he wanted to see
Oh god i miss using the old metal caulk guns for the sauces, the ones they use now suck and made of plastic and break easy. On another note this is a great video and look at a brief history of the usa. :D
There's a category missing from the "How Did We Become Us?" section: Some of Our Ancestors Were Kicked Out by Other Countries. For example, at least one of mine was booted by England.
May I never be left unsupervised with a lot of money in this gift shop… lol 😂 Those Oz T-Shirts would be calling my name so badly and so would every book on every subject I could find in there. Rofl
I didn’t realize that the Ruby slippers are not a pair! Interesting, considering the little house museum here in Minnesota did have an actual pair. They were stolen, and I believe when they were recovered they were auctioned off.
That train car you went through was either from Chicago, or supposed to be, as I could hear Chicago stops being called out. I rode that exact line for a few years when I lived in Evanston and worked downtown in a car very similar to that one. Made me nostalgic. Disappointing about Archie Bunker's chair, but there's always next time.
Carpetbagger was talking about Jimmy Carter and mentioned where he still lives. I had to Google it, aparently as of right now in Feb 2022 Jimmy Carter is STILL ALIVE. WHAT?? I guess he's 97 years old and still kicking. I learned something today. He just seemed like an old historical figure, weird that he's still walking around doing things right now.
Seeing the Ruby Slippers (even that mismatched pair) was as close to a religious experience as I expect in my lifetime. I took dozens of terrible pics on my old flip phone, and I'll never forget it. I wonder too what has become of those other pop culture relics. Perhaps Archie Bunker's chair has little meaning for today's hipster crowd...
What's up Jake, hope all is well! Hope Annabelle is doing good! Thanks for all the videos... This is one of your best videos yet!! Um, they didn't think "Johnson Juice" through did they? Yikes.

Surprised you didn't show the star spangled banner when you first walk in behind the George Washington statue you showed, it's breath-taking!
You’re not allowed to film it.
@@kyliebruce9643 hmm years ago I was able to, they just told me no flash photography
Since they moved it to its new exhibit hall you are no longer allowed to film or photograph the Star-Spangled Banner it is to protect the flag.
