    Optimistic nihilism is the most beautiful philosophy in my opinion. Despite the fact that nothing you do matters in the end you still make an effort to achieve happiness and make something out of the nothing.

      @@mrandersong1 Nothing in the end will matter, but that makes what happens now so important. Death is infinite so what happens in your finite life is infinitely valuable. That's why you need to make the most of it and do what you feel is important. There is a thing called neuroplasticity and neurogenesis. The brain grows nerves of those type the type you make yourself feel. Can I explain it? There is no point in doing anything in a big picture. But in a small picture you will never want to feel frustrated. We have lived a significant part of our life in this society which has shaped our brain in a certain fashion and going against it would be serious mistake.
    But again that doesn't really matter in a big picture. True af!

Wasn't disagreeing with what they said but from my own journey with depression for 3 out of 4 decades - knowing nothing matters, as futile as that sounds, helps me step out of the darkness and keep going.
    Took a couple of falls before coming to this realisation.

    I would suggest that there is no such thing as optimistic nihilism. The very fact that he is choosing to be involved in views on the world and think it worthy of communication to others and that he has a goal of 'wanting to be happy' ultimately means that he has given himself meaning and purpose. He has given himself a meaning in the world and in society which by definition means that he is not a nihilist. The 'optimistic' classification is irrelevant in my humble opinion.

    • @dylanrichardson199

      Nihilism is only the lack of a belief in objective meaning not, subjective. Many people do claim that basically, Nihilism=nothingness, but this is just a claim about the purported effects of it, not a definition.
      Personally, I too don't treat it as a philosophy. It's actually analogous to atheism. No one treats atheism as a philosophy. Someone could incorporate it into a broader philosophy, but the philosophy should have a distinct name.

    • @CHCClark
      @CHCClark 5 лет назад +5

      Nihilism is a lack of both objective and subjective meaning.
      It it is logically absurd to claim that the world/life has no meaning yet a human life can have meaning, subjective or not.
      Humans live in the world and are a part of the world. Therefore, if the world lacks meaning, so does human existence.
      If we perceive any meaning in our own lives, it's just an illusory product of our biological wiring.
