I'm playing a Variant Human UA Beast Conclave Ranger. He started as a PHB Beastmaster, but DM let us tweak at level 5. Giant Wolf Spider companion called Yolonda. She's awesome.
Folk Hero background gave me Smith's tools, and skilled feat gave me leather worker's, tinkers and wood carver's proficiencies.
Character is a survivalist, anti-theist loner who scavenges, re-purposes and cobbles gear together.
DM is letting me use my tool proficiencies to strip down a heavy crossbow and turn it into a compound bow. It's taking a while, but sooo flavourful!

I'd kinda love to see a skills series from you. Explaining how history, religion, and arcana are different from one another to new players is hard!

    Mary Sues...
    I’m scared of this...
    ~
But this could also be decent for people that pretend to be X but are actually Y.
For example: a character could be an extremely skilled melee combatant, but if your playing a race that’s looked down upon, you could use this on deception, performance, and stealth to make yourself appear as a slave to a party member in order to avoid the sky-rocketing of prices or refusal of service because there is a member of x species on the party.
(I said deception, performance to trick people that yes you are slave, and stealth because unless your in slave market territory or high class formal occasions slaves probably wouldn’t be noticed and stealth could help you keep low profile)

I 100% agree! I really like the rollplay potential of this Feat!

Welcome! Is this still a thing? I've recently started playing again and am loving this new artificer class. Especially the homebrews of it. Its the first time I really started getting into skill use. Thanks for this

I'm gonna put this on a Half-Elf College of Lore Bard
3 skills of any choice from the race
2 of any choice from the class
3 of any choice from the subclass
3 of any choice from the skilled feat
plus Bard's Jack of All Trades feature and Expertise?
at 4th level that's 9 skills you're at proficient in, 2 skills you have Expertise in, and the other 7 skills you still get half proficiency
Never fail a skill check ever again.

To make this better start as a rogue (they get 4 proficiency at first level) then multiclased into lore bard, take this feat and take 1 level in ranger to get 1 skill proficiency from there list and choose background with 2 proficiency who this build doesn't cover.
That's 16 skills you are proficiency as 6 level character.

@@ChancesSpellbook I do realize something... Being Human can have lot Tools proficiency they want. Human Artificer with Background give them tool proficiency at level 4, they have up too 8-9 Tools and they become expertise.

A rogue taking this with their reliable talent ability is absolutely stupid 😂 it's a guaranteed 14 (10+Prof) on even skills that use their dump stat.... That's WITHOUT expertise 😂
