  • Time and effort spent mastering the culinary arts has paid off. You gain the following benefits:
Increase your Constitution or Wisdom score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
You gain proficiency with cook’s utensils if you don’t already have it.
As part of a short rest, you can cook special food, provided you have ingredients and cook’s utensils on hand. You can prepare enough of this food for a number of creatures equal to 4 + your proficiency bonus. At the end of the short rest, any creature who eats the food and spends one or more Hit Dice to regain hit points regains an extra 1d8 hit points.
With one hour of work or when you finish a long rest, you can cook a number of treats equal to your proficiency bonus. These special treats last 8 hours after being made. A creature can use a bonus action to eat one of those treats to gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus.

While this feat is weaker than healer or inspiring leader, do remember that it is only half a feat and combines this weaker version of healer and inspiring leader into one feat.

And it gives a +1 to Con or Wis. My monk is definitely taking this--we're just starting out, and so far I'm the only party member able to use my bonus actions, so my teammates can eat the treats without losing the chance to do something else...and I can bribe them into taking more short rests so that I can recharge my ki! :)

hey at lvl20 if you eat all the cookies yourself it's 36 hp over the course of 6 turns, some fighters and paladins don't use bonus actions every turn so it's a nice boost to hp, also if you take the +1 in con to an even number you also got 20 max hp
this is effectively "you gain hp equal to your level plus your proficiency bonus squared" plus some extra flavour

Create a spellcaster class mark of hospitality halfling with this feat, then get artificer initiate (pick brewer's supplies), then pick the artisan brewer feat (also UA).
Now you have a halfling that can cast magic by brewing mead and can cook. Get the shipwright background and you now have a mobile tavern. Enjoy. :-P

So +1 to a stat and free song of rest? That alone doesn't sound bad to me. The treats are just a cherry on top

I'd love to have a Pact of the Blade Warlock whose pact weapon is a Chef's Knife. 🤣 Maybe they use Prestidigitation to improve the presentation of the dish. Backstory? Sold their soul to win a cooking competition.
Edit: Opening D&D Beyond as we speak... 😑

Long story short, I ended up with this feat but I didn't pic it. I have a variant Human Fighter level 1 and I am not sure how to play him. Oh he also has entertainer as his background. Strength 16 Dexterity 8 Constitution 16 Intelligence 10 Wisdom 12 Charisma 13. strange stats I think. What do you think?

I would just switch the features hp and thp with each other.
So, as part of a short rest meal eating and hit dice used you gain 1d8 temp hit points. The meal was so good you are energized with extra vigor.
Then, after an hour of work you make snacks equal to prof bonus that when ate heals for HP = prof bonus. Kinda like the good berry spell. Or like you said use hit dice got the numbers rolled. It's not a perfect fix, but would be more useful. ( Could you feed one to a 0 HP character to get them back up like you can with good berry? I don't know )

I feel like I'm trolling by saying this but.... With a bard's Song of Rest, Inspiring Leader, and the Catnap spell, Chief can actually do something interesting if you're playing the fifth wheel of a party. The temp Hp gained from Inspiring Leader would be your standard buff, slap a stacking Aid spell on there (thank you Tasha) and you have a setup ready to adventure. During combat if party members loose all their Temp HP from Inspiring Leader they can always blow a bonus action to gobble down a snicker-doodle for just a little bit more. Then, when you get to that point where people have depleted their resources, but you really need to keep going you can find a place to soft reset the party. Cast Catnap, let them snooze for 10minutes and recover action surge / second wind/ spells or what have you. If they spend at least 1 HD to heal up, you give them 1d8 + your Song of Rest die, they gain another round of temp hp, and you shower them with no bake cookies! If you're playing the Utility Bard this isn't a bad feat.

Hello Chance, great video topic. For rollplaying purpose, I want to take a female half-orc or lizardfolk (PC or NPC). Want to make her the ultimate adventuring party cook. But she will be confused on what is food and what is not food. Example: She would look at the adventuring party and say, "What do you mean we can't cook Fred. Fred is dead!"
I would also take a couple other options with this Feat.
Trinket: A personal set of utensils (knife, fork & spoon).
    Artisan's tools: Cook's Utensils
She would also be questing for a legendary utensil.
    Murlynd's Spoon
This unremarkable eating utensil is typically fashioned from horn or wood.
If the spoon is placed in an empty container - a bowl, cup, or a dish, for example - the vessel fills with a thick, pasty gruel. Although this substance has a flavor similar to that of warm, wet cardboard, it is highly nourishing and contains everything necessary to sustain any herbivorous, omnivorous, or carnivorous creature. The spoon can produce sufficient gruel each day to feed up to four humans. (If your playing a halfling and you have a cool DM. Murlynd's Spoon is a giant wooden spoon that feeds up to 4 large humanoids per day. Use greatclub stats and it is consider a magical weapon).
So the next time in your D&D game Chance, make sure those scooby snacks aren't really made from scooby.
Thanks Chance & have a wonderful day.

Oh the under use of this feat.
Buy meats from the butcher, buy various vegetables from the farmers, herbs and spices from wherever. Local grown etc etc etc. Now for the fun of this. And it sounds like you shelled a pretty penny or two already.
Cut and chop everything down to bite size peices. And dry it, dehydrate, or the magical way with a casting of destroy water (think about it) and measure out the dried herds and spices.
Make little packets of a mix of dried meat and vegetables with a small packet of the spices and herbs. On the packaging you have pictures and instructions of how to make the soup/stew in the package.
Sell them in a shop for say a silver coin each.
People are getting your food, at your expert level. For a small price, that you can just take and carry. So they can prepare it anywhere in the world.
    Your name will be legendary

I think if you have Herbalism Kit and Cooking Utensils proficiency, you should be able to replicate this Feat(just with out the stat increase).
Herbs are needed to create healing potions and cooking for the party can regenerate a little hit points.
So combining both should do the same as this Feat without actually taking the Feat.

Most UA feat seem pretty lame. I'd stuck with Resilient any day, saving throw proficiency over a few temp hit points is a way better deal.
