You talk about the 70s. I could tell you about the 40s and 50s with the back houses and the steam engines the pub where dad had his first pint . Thanks Colin you back some very old memories
Hey Colin. Here's an idea. Do a street walk of Handsworth and have an interview with Mr. Handsworth (Hector) himself! Maybe recall some of the historic things that have happened and iconic names who have hailed from that area of Birmingham. Just an idea.
Thanks for that smiler. My memories of Nechells date back to the 50s and 60s I lived at 362 Nechells Park Road. I spent most of my time in Nechells baths. My parents were one of the fist to move to Victor Tower flats. My grandmother and later my mother had the second hand shop opposite the Co-op. Life was good then. No television or telephone. I can't remember staying indoors much. My name back then was Patty Taylor. Anyone out there remember me?
Nechells park road was mostly shops towards the number 8 bus, I could tell you some stories. My mom & stepdad lived on Stuart Street up to 2023, look forward to your videos
I lived in malvern Hill Road and went to eliot Street school my dads locals were the villa tavern and the white horse i remember the row of shops on nechells park road at the bottom of my street especially wimbushs grocers where i worked after school
I use to live there in the 80s and to be honest glad to get out , to many drugs ,the things that had gone on there made me sick ,there is a wall i believe with many pictures that were on that wall , the bricks are called blue bricks i believe from the railway side , i was contracted to bricklay the wall at the end so that pictures can be erected . I also cleaned up the area and painted and decorated many of the houses and flats there . got robbed so many times i had to leave the place had enough . I met the kids band form the nechalls are musical youth i believe there band name was called , the youngsters were the nicest of the band with a welcoming smile knowing that i recognised them . the tall one with glasses thought he was it the man , but i understood that due to having the records a hit it goes to peoples head sometimes . use to see them every day and said hi to them all the time , they smiled back and waved back ,they were great .
