Thanks for the memories Colin. I used to live in Nechells in the 70s. My son went to Duddeston Manor Sch, in the days with his Musical Youths friends. When they were invited on Tizwaz they took him with them. We lived in a small town not far from WingYip Superrmarket and restaurant. Memories indeed. All changed now. Thank you.

hi smiler Michael Barrett from Ireland my mom worked in the Nechells Green Community Centre in 1970 across Melvina Rd there were a block of Masonettes 6 flats in a block i lived in the block facing the Comm Centre1975 i think ,you stopped the car saying about the blocks of Masonettes smiler do you know how many Blocks were built in 1953? four blocks of 6 flats in a block four blocks of Masonettes on melvina rd side and four blocks of masonettes on the little hall rd side were you got out of you car and then you have four blocks up through the centre so you had 24 flats in the middle blocks and then another 24 flats on melvina rd side and 24 flatson the little hall rd side 72 flats altogether we had a problem with cockroach infestation the council then couldnt do anything about it they were harmless really you see smiler they bred in through the hot water pipe network we lived in those masonettes from 1973-1980 but they were demolished in 1990 the flats were warm in the winter through burnt coal from saltley gas works called coke that fed the boilers in home tower and from there spread right through the network i havent been back there snice we left for sutton coldfield in october 1980! 44 years ago it ll bring back good memories to me when i go back even the whole area has changed duddeston mill rd saltley alumn rock washwoodheath etc keep upthe good work smiler id like too meet you are you born in nechells
