Kevin and Sarah, the reason for your RUclips success is the way you live your values and commitments every day. Your authenticity and drive are inspiring.
Sarah your grandmother's dishes are by Vernon Kilns out of California and the pattern is " May Flower". 1940's-1950's. Lovely indeed. You are precious!
Re: using grandma's dishes for everyday ... Maybe 50+ years ago, I watched a wise woman on tv say: "Don't put your 'good' things away until company comes. "TREAT YOUR FAMILY LIKE COMPANY, AND YOUR COMPANY LIKE FAMILY." It was wise long ago, and still is. You're doing the best thing to honor your grandma...by using what she loved in her own home. [This goes for dishes, towels, tablecloths and napkins, bedding, etc. ALL of it]. God bless you! : )
Please be sure to give a reminder about Neosho. I could walk there, if I were younger, we live so close. We would love to make your acquaintance and listen to your talk. Thanks for taking the time to answer questions. Y’all did a very good job!
I am not watching live stream because it takes to much empty reading time and bla bla bla hi this hi that hi this .... very nice video 100% on point and better than live
Yeah, personally I don't care for Q&A livestreams either, but for a different reason. I don't know if it's my ADHD or what, but I have a hard time listening to something if there isn't a visual element also. So given how Q&A or "hang out" type livestreams can be like an hour or even two hours sometimes, a lot of people would probably just put them on and listen to it in the background while doing laundry or something, but for me my brain just wouldn't be able to concentrate on it if it's in the background and having to Watch it would just be too long as, like you and someone else said, there can be a lot of just empty "air time." Now, if it's a gaming livestream or something, that's totally different as you're watching someone actively doing something and playing something. Or like a baby goat watch or puppy/ kitten cam kinda livestream can just be a nice relaxing thing to watch to not really have your brain engaged :)
It's always so refreshing to watch your programs. I have the utmost respect for you and your lifestyle. Of course it's not easy but it must be so rewarding. You are providing your girls with a strong moral foundation that will be with them for their lifetimes. This is something that every parent should do but unfortunately that is not the case. Thanks for sharing your everyday experiences with us. As always, take care and God Bless all of you. ♥️🙏🇺🇸
Make your own tortillas! It's so simple! 3 cups all purpose flour 1 cup warm water 1 tsp salt 1 tsp baking powder 1/3 cup olive oil Knead til combined. Rest for 15 minutes. Divide into 16 and roll out with flour. Cook on each side for 30 seconds or so in a dry skillet.
Nothing like the flavor of fresh made tortillas ... but weighing the time spent making them [including clean up] against grabbing a package in the store ... leaves more time for cooking with them.
Fellow jar hoarder here! We moved to our homestead 2 years ago, bringing over 200 jars with us. When we opened the cellar to prepare for storm season, we were surprised by more than 500 jars! I am still in the 'market' for more jars! Growing up, we never ended canning season with less than 1000 jars of food to get us through til the next season. Love the honey bun story, my grandson thinks that is the main reason for the trip to the store, lol! Love you guys, love your hearts of service.
Hi Sara and Kevin! When my uncle moved off his farm, one end of his basement had shelves full of them on one end. I lost a number of my folks when I had to move, now I am buying them so I can make jams, jelly, preserves and apple butter. For me the pint jars are the biggest I need, while my Mom had a large number of quarts and some half gallon and a few gallon ones. (The gallon ones were vinegar and institutional sized pickle jars she had saved.) When your family downsizes, we all find we don't need as many quart sized jars of fruits and vegetables. Thanks for the videos, it is like a visit with a good friend or neighbor.
Hi Sarah and Kevin! Really enjoyed that Q&A. Thank you so much for sharing more of your lives with us viewers. I feel so privileged to be a viewer. Thanks and God Bless! Cheers!
Military!, ❤️ My son and daughter were Army, teaching a good job..I’m a special education co teacher for English 10 & 12, it’s so rewarding to see my students FINALLY get it ❤️❤️ your kids are special!!
I am sure that homesteading the way you do is a blessing and for others. Before people get into deep homesteading, they need to realize that they do not own the homestead, but the homestead owns them. This is something they really need to consider. BTW, if you have not tried wheat tortillas you should give them a try. I even think they are better for you, healthwise and taste.
Air National Guard is a great option. I am a Navy vet and right now I am thankful I do not have to worry about healthcare! I prefer Q&A's like this. Live ones tend to say "Hi" to everyone for more than half the time.
Great video. I had more than enough canning jars, but after losing my mom in law I received all of hers. I couldn’t stand the idea of seeing them be dumped in the dumpster, she used them to feed her family. Hoping at least one of my daughters will become interested in canning.
Nice video, I am a lifelong gardener (58 now) and have learned a great deal from you two. Your gardening videos have made my life much better. I am also going to rebuild my kitchenaid mixer. I have spent 33 years in the Iowa Air National Guard and highly recommend this. I started out just to pay for some graduate school but ended up as the lead Industrial Hygienist for my unit. What area has your daughter looked into? She will likely do well in any area. Thanks again for what you do.
I did both college and homestead. I work in IT but I live on a small farm. It is hard work, but possible. Thank God my 11 tear old son is a huge help with the animals and loves growing a garden.
my cats try to get out of the house. guinea fowl are great for protecting other animals . Big Family Homestead tried them and had the same experience you did to noisey. love you guys i enjoyed the video .
Loved learning things about y'all. Enjoyed knowing that you use your grandmother 's dishes, and daily! Funny about Kevin's Honey Buns, lol. I guess I won't be waiting to see your flour tortilla video, as you have a great bread recipe. Great channel!

We love our bees. They are really interesting critters. We have grown to 15 hives, harvested nearly 17 gallons of honey this spring. Ben is a really nice guy. Good luck with the bees. They are one of our favorites on the homestead!
Great Q&A video!!!! Love that y'all are so real and down to earth. I'm so tired of having to apologize for being a home body that I decided at the beginning of this year to stop apologizing for being who I am and doing what makes me happy.🌻
When I was in HS I came home on the bus one afternoon to a SEMI truck unloading 8 foot logs. Not a big deal right? Haha, we lived on a single family lot 122×68 with a 3 bedroom home with an attached garage. (Not a lot of land left)... my father had no idea how much firewood he had actually ordered... we lived in Michigan. That wood lasted us 3 years...
I loved this Q&A video, I would like it if you would do one every few weeks. Somehow, it seems more personal, less scripted, we get to know you a little better. Sorry, but we are insatiable! You guys are so amazing we all wish we lived next door. Thanks for sharing your life with us!
Hahahaha Sarah, everytime you two just mention the guinees, I break out laughing reminded of your eyes shifting to the beat of the squarking! Too Funny! :D I love following your journey! :)
This video just made me smile. Enjoy those flour tortillas and honey buns. You work so hard for everything you harvest, that allowing yourself a moment of simplicity and enjoyment with a packaged flour tortilla, or a honey bun actually seems really healthy.
I started watching your channel recently and have enjoyed it immensely. I applaud the decision you made to put your children first and change your lives so that they can benefit from being raised by you rather than the school or day care. What a fun video! I agree completely. I'd much rather see a video like this than a live stream, for the reasons already stated. In regard to your winter wood supply, we used to heat our home with wood, before we moved. The farmer who owned the field behind us graciously allowed us to take all of the wood we wanted from the wooded areas in it. It helped him, and us, too. I helped my husband cut and haul the wood up to the house, and enjoyed it thoroughly. Fortunately, my husband had the technical knowledge, and a free source for, all of the elements to build his own log splitter. It worked like a charm! I love your videos, and they are at the top of my list when I sit down to watch.

I have admired your dishes many times but thought I wouldn't be able to buy them. I always love your videos. Thanks for the q&a. The canning jar info and Kevin's Honey Buns were funny. Thanks
I have similar dishes from my Grandma, she got for a wedding gift in the sixties. Her set is trimmed in gold, so I don't want to use them. We have a display case set into the wall of our dining room, so that's where I have them. Too pretty to set in a cupboard but afraid to ruin them by using them.
WE have more than 1000 canning jars and have had them all filled with canned goods....and once needed to get a few dozen more. Wwe have not disposed of them but our daughter cans her garden produce and has taken perhaps 100 of them off our shelves. Rick and Sharon in pa.
I think you two do a great job of sharing your lives with all the You Tubers. I could sit here and watch you all day, but I have things I need to do and I know you do too. Keep up the good work. The quality of your videos are OUTSTANDING. I watch a lot of other types of videos (mostly quilting and cooking) and yours are the best!
Loved to hear you answer questions the viewers had. I know what you mean about being home-bodies. I am like that also and friends and especially family don't understand that my priority is taking care of animals on the farm. I did have to leave for 5 days to tend to my mother who had major surgery and was recovering at home. Thankfully my hubby stayed home and fed animals.
Hey guys wife and I enjoy your videos, we have learned soooo much keep it up. We live up by the Lake of the Ozarks near Jeff City, last year we had a terrible time with the Japanese beetle we used three traps and killed several thousand. This year however, we have not had much of a problem with them, in fact I only put our one trap and emptied it twice so far. I did spray the neeme oil in the area that we killed the most last year.
Great video. I’m really glad that you don’t do live feeds. I don’t have an hour or an hour and a half to sit and watch people say hello to each viewer as they come on the screen, so I avoid live chats. I hope you do more videos like this-it was entertaining as well as informative. As to Kevin’s love of honey buns 😀, I think a treat now and then is important. It helps stay the course over the long haul and gives pleasure as well.

I agree. I don't care for live stream either. Chat goes by so fast, most questions go by unanswered anyway.
Seems like there's always "empty air" as the RUclipsrs are reading comments. It's just uncomfortable, and generally, WAY too long!
I agree too. Live stream is not easy to watch, and uses ALOT of time and my bandwith also gets used up. I never watch them now.

Love you two! Thanks so much for doing your videos!

I Loved learning about your life and look forward to more videos like this one!!Also Love the cooking videos!Stay Strong,Stay Well,God Bless!!
Honestly, I don't watch live stream. I love your video's! You two crack me up... uumm 30 boxes of old glass jars that I haven't seen in years!
