@Jelly-lc2db Why would you even question that? I have ten myself. 3 Lingtings, 1 Gecko, 1 Seeds Chromatic, 1 Chills Angel Chromatic, and 4 Hugh Traceys. They aren't hard to get from Kalimbamagic or Amazon with prices ranging from $40 to $150. Prove it? My word is proof. Prove that it's not.
Do you notice how he puts his forefingers over the tines? Do you think that's just for support or to shorten the resonance. I have a difficult time preventing the tines from vibrating against my fingernails causing buzzing when playing repetitive notes. Doesn't happen on the stiff tined Gecko but very pronounced on my other Kalimbas and I have very short nails. I can eliminate it by using thumb guards but I hate playing with those things. His finger positioning, if used to deaden the vibration, is possibly an interesting solution.
This man is a genius.. look how engrossed he is..he is amphidextrous...while those who gave a negative comment dont even have one fourth of their half brain working...hats off to this musician!!!
@@Adrjan77 ye prolly true. That's why that person isn't able to perceive and be in the shoe of the other person. Right or wrong, if another person doesn't get what one is doing, he doesn't understand half or 1/4th or prolly nothing of what or how the other person thinks, so technically yes
This specific Kalimba performance is a style all its own. I feel sorry for negative people who do not understand it. It’s hard to explain but; most people who play this instrument only use just their thumbs and strike the tines to create a single sound, this man however is a true pro! He uses his index fingers to change the tone of the strike and also on the last down beat of the bridge as he hits a note he hits it so hard that when his thumb comes of the tine it then strikes the wood of the Kalimba which gives off a percussion sound. Like hitting a block or drum to keep tempo. Truly amazing 🥰
Actually this is a difficult technique for playing Kalimba, Since he plays with jazzy scales, it sounds really complicated if you are really understands about music. The problem of this performance is only the sounds. They should make better sound check before the real concert because this instruments is literally not loud enough such as guitar, piano, violin on the big stage like this.
I always loved Kalimba, but thought it was too easy to play it. I am really impressed on what you're capable on doing on this instrument... just... WOW!!!!
The fact that this man could make a solid dance track off of a kalimba is remarkable. Note for note this is something a full-scale EDM production would try to replicate and it would be considered a banger. Suddenly it's coming out of a kalimba and people say it sounds bad. Turn your fuckin' ears on. Not only is it a great piece of music alone, but the skill it takes to play it on this particular instrument is ridiculous.
in a nice recording environment, this could actually make for some beautiful percussion, i wish he had a louder setup but for such a gentle way of playing i understand the difficulty!
I just discovered the Kalimba I have one. I did not enjoy his way of making music at all but I’m also glad some people can enjoy it that’s what it’s all about
He is performing the ancient soul of it´s origin in master´s way. No copy, but intiuve in a perfect timing to be telling a lot. I use go the same way but very diffrently. What I do is to record a talking just by the simple device of my phone in a moment of now and to be sending it to the distant person that was leaving me a messagge before, by words or none. Never I know what I am doing in this moment, never I can repeat because the sound is meant to be nothing else than the modulated air by an unspoken word, while the spirit has already crossed continents and oceans. Some of my recordings, framed by some selfmade images, to be seen at my channel became made when the message of the sound has done it´s job. Now they are meant to be shared. This master is an old traveling soul. My deepest respect for him.
almost like drum solo technique, kalimba players often keep the beat steady, this is more like classical with an expressive shifting of tempo that is also heard from good jazz drummers
music snobs and casual pop listeners alike can't appreciate the implementation of percussion with such a groovy rhythm in this comments and it's crazy. but yes, the audio set up really doesn't do him justice.
Nice piece.. but in my opinion Yancarlos Sanchez is much more innovative with the kalimba as an instrument.. and even more powerful than innovation is the ancient interlocking sound of shona mbira itself..
Where are the negative comments at? I can't understand how you can't at least understand he does indeed have a fair bit of skill. Also, how is he making those taps?
It's more about the rhythm than the actual melody. He's showing that playing the kalimba doesn't necessarily have to result in some sweet lullaby melody. It can also be played in more percussive manner. It's just unconventional and you're not used to it. I loved it.
As someone with a kalimba, this guy truly is incredible
Same imao
Oh sure you have kalimbas? Proof?

I can only imagine his gameboy skills.

He is also a world class thumb wrestler
lol its so funny 😂😂
I think his wife loves it more

I agree, as a Kalimba user myself, I find it hard to increase tempo since the tines are narrow.
So, if someone doesn't like wat you does, means he has one fourth of their half brain working?... seems legit

I like his vibe. How he dressed up and the passion he puts on his performance. Hats off!
Evidence that you can become a virtuoso in ANY instrument. Not only a genius player, but a true inspiration.
衣装が変だなとか、音少し小さいとか最初思ってたけど、寝転んで目を閉じながら聴いてみると物凄く心地良かった。
I think this video has pretty oriental sound. Some can't understand it because they are not used to these sounds. It's perfect.
Some cant understand it because it sounds too low X_D.
Close your eyes and feel it flowing xD
I thought it was an African instrument?

Crazy that all those sounds came from one instrument. I had my eyes closed and it sounded like at least 3 instruments. Amazing

He’s really good at this it’s just so sad that the set up and mic couldn’t pick up is work.
The Kalimba and I, we are a harmony of individual identities. And I play my Kalimba daily. This person is skilled.

Playing at that speed on a kalimba is incredible 👏👏
This is a true musican’s approach to simple instrument...mastery. Beautiful!
Nobody understands what he is doing and its sad how rude the comments are
Sounds rather interesting, not my thing but he kinda added percussions to it which is nice.
This guy is really good. Been a Kalimba fan since first hearing Taj Mahal play one on the old Flip Wilson show...
I didn’t understand at the start but when i used headphones, I could listen to all the sounds. It was amazing.

Notice the wawa effect when his thumbs cover the ovation hole
Wow! What a great and different way of playing the Kalimba! Well done!
