2023 I am 51.
In 1995 I was 22 US Army stationed in Germany 🇩🇪. Met gorgeous Brazilian who had 2 kids w German and was getting divorced. I fell in lust. Moved in. But, I knew it was a bad call.
Army asked if I wanted to extend 1 more year in Germany? I said no, knowing it would hasten our break up. It did. 1998, I was back in USA 🇺🇸, and got a Christmas 🎄 card from her w new last name Tucker and military address. She married another soldier. 2004, I bumped into her in Germany 🇩🇪 again !! She had another kid w the American. I was an officer now. We had a 1 hour conversation. Caught up. They moved to Georgia. 2019, I went back to Germany. I FB peeked her. Divorced. I am happy w my wife and 2 kids in California. I was lucky 🍀. It’s painful. Like cutting off your infected leg. But, you will be better off. Trust me. I wish I could talk to her 2nd ex husband and ask if he felt it was worth it. He got 2 kids out of her, so maybe? But, now I know she is bound to him and Georgia for YEARS due to custody. Oh well. Life.

I dated a girl with a kid who had a deadbeat dad. After I moved them in, I got death threats and stalking from the dad. Had restraining orders on him etc. I treated this kid like my own, he was so smart, talented, but when we split up, I had zero rights, or say in anything, and I’ve never in my life dealt with so much dam drama. Anytime I meet a woman with a kid, I run full speed in the opposite direction. Heartbeat X2.

@@charlesg7926 my form of discipline doesn't involve any physical touching of any kind. I used it on my nieces when watching them. They would fight over the TV remote to watch the same Show. So I would get the remote put them in opposite corners put the show on they want to watch. I would simply say you can get out of the corner by apologizing to each other until then listen to the show but no watching of it. It usually took less than a few minutes for apoligies to begin.

One of the worst lessons I learned about dating a single mom was a couple of weeks after she left I realized how attached I got to her kids as well and that I not only lost her but the kids as well. That alone has scared me to ever want to get involved with a single mom again just for that reason.

There's a reason why divorce rates are so high and single parenting as well because the Govt inadvertently set the wheels in motion to incentivize that outcome with Legally mandated welfare mechanisms to enforce keeping the family apart rather than together ie. No fault Divorce, Child Support, Alimony e.t.c
Add the Domino effects of the current cultural disdain of the male half of the society in favour of the matriarchy as it were coupled with the rot brought on by Feminism as the Sexual Revolution after the advent of Birth Control and we have ourselves a reality where stories like yours are more of the exception rather than the common good.
So why would any man willingly brave a minefield in an unspoken conflict that they never signed up for?

Not all single mothers are single because of a failed relationship. I’m a single mom because my husband died of liver cancer after being married for just 4 years. I was lucky enough to have a boy and a girl (twins) with my husband. I choose not to date because I want to focus on raising my children which is something I never dreamed I would be doing alone. It’s both the hardest and the best thing I’ll ever do in my entire life.

Thanks for sharing the realities of raising someone else's kids. I decided early on in life that dating single mothers was out of the question, but for different reasons. I always thought it'd be detrimental to a child's life constantly seeing different men/ father figured come in and out of their life (because dating doesn't always work out). I hadn't considered how much of a raw deal it is for men until later on in life when I started hearing horror stories like this
