Finally got around to doing this install. Because of your video it took me 15 minutes to install everything on the bike. The hardest part was compressing the wires so I could reattach the controller access cover.
On my bike I mounted the battery cradle on to a piece of black-painted plywood. I placed that inside the rear basket I installed and zip tied the wood to the grates at the bottom of the basket. I did it this way so I have the option of using the battery on my other e-bikes. Charging the battery is easy, I will simply run the charger wire to the battery on the bike.
    Thanks again.

Glad it worked out for you, yeah compressing the wires is the hardest part. Now you will have a lot more range. Thanks for letting me know : )

Just bought all the parts to do this battery mod. Thanks again for the links.
In the Delivery Instructions box I told Amazon I didn't want to see any refugee wasps hitching a ride in my shipping box.

Thank you so much for using my links, it helps the channel. The wasps are crazy, makes my skin crawl. I got stung by 5 or 6 one time when putting on the pool cover. That is something I want to avoid LOL

    Yes!
I have this same bike, i love it to death, except the range.

Yeah, this bike is a blast. I talked to the CEO and they are planning a version with a bigger battery. I rode mine for 5 hours in the woods and thought it would never die, so I guess it depends what you are doing. This mod put my range at about 100 miles, more than I will ever ride in one go LOL. Thanks for watching

Update: Despite your warning about cutting wires, I don't see any way around cutting off the round two-pin connector and soldering on an XT60 connector. So that's what I just did.
My XT60 connectors are rated 60 amps. Should do the trick since the Rad Rover battery is rated 14 amps.
I'll leave my original post below. Hope all this helps others watching your tutorial.

Hey Papa, one last question (maybe 🙂):
I see at 12:38 the battery WIRE connected to the battery cradle housing has at the other end a yellow XT60 connector. Did you splice that XT60 connector on to that wire?
I ask because my Rad Rover battery cradle has a round two-pin female connector, that on the Rad Rover runs to and is connected to the controller.
Did your battery wire already have that XT-60 connector, or did you cut the existing connector and attach the XT-60 bit?
Or perhaps you cut one end of a male/female XT-60 wire, and solder the wires to the cradle (by removing the housing cover to get access to the solder points).
Appreciate the answer because one way or another I gotta ditch the round two-pin connector and get an XT-60 attached.
I don't think it matters any which way it is done, but if it does matter, can you let me know.
    Regards

My cradle already had the xt-60 plugs so it made the conversion very easy. There is a large number of ways they hook these up,.
      Here is a small list:
      Anderson Powerpole Connectors
      XT60 Connectors
      XT90 Connectors
      XT150 Connectors
      HIGO Connectors
      JST Connectors
      Bullet Connectors
      SM-2/3/4/5/6 Connectors
and some use their own in house connector.
If they are not xt-60 you either have to get a converter to convert to xt-60 or cut and solder like you did. So you did correct. The main thing is to make sure the polarity is correct when you solder.
An yes the xt60 will handle 60 amps [hence the name ;) ]
      So you should be set.
      I hope that helps : )

Appreciate the shout out. Now I know you are using the same battery as on your other bike. What about the cradle? Could you get a second cradle so that you’re not having to unplug and plug back in all the time? Very good job on the install.

      @papablueshirt  Год назад

At some point in the future I will probably just buy another battery, then I can mount the cradle that comes with it on this. That being said, it only takes about 15 seconds to change it over. I am kind of a tight wad LOL. Comes from being super poor as a child. We were so poor, the mice brought us care packages ; )

@@papablueshirt you may want to check with the company and see if you can buy a cradle. Honestly, it’s a brilliant idea to use the same battery for each bike.

Yeah, I can get a cradle for 30.00. But it is free with my next battery, so I will probably wait. I told you I am a penny pincher LOL

The stock battery has about 40 miles of range with this added it is over 100 miles. Southern IL, KY and TN is mostly where I ride. Thanks for watching

Have you done a range test using both batteries yet?? Also do you leave your extra battery plugged in all the time when riding? Thanks

    • @papablueshirt
      @papablueshirt  9 месяцев назад

I did a range test on the stock battery and I had the extra battery on the back so I could turn it on once the other died.
You can see that here: ruclips.net/video/c41ElLA2jYM/видео.htmlsi=x6imVjS0rFwyZEda
If you do the math figuring 2.5 miles per ah [40 miles / 16ah = 2.5 miles per ah], it would put you at 97.5 miles, so almost 100. And that is at pas 5. If you went down to 3 or 4, I am sure you could ride longer than you would ever want to LOL.
Yes, I leave the rear battery on for normal rides. This one I turned it off until the stock battery was depleted.
      Hope that helps : )

Do you basically 'jump the batteries' together, and can the electric controller(s) handle it? Obviously it worked on Philoto. I'm tired, going to bed, and it's only 17:00 hrs central. Odd day in that way.. Maybe I'm diabetic II. eat sleepy time. Lord take a liken.

The balancer just switches from one battery to the other, so only one battery is on at a time. When one battery wears down a little, it will switch to the higher charged one. When that one is below the other, it will switch back. Works pretty neat.

Hey Papa, I have a spare battery and a cradle that was formerly on my Rad Rover (removed it to install a 52v battery). I'm thinking to use it on my new Hanevear.
Before I forget, thanks for providing the links to everything used for the install.
The Rover battery is like all the typical generics we see on AMZN and on many e-bikes nowadays (48v 14Ah 672Wh).
I'm thinking this is easily doable, especially after watching your excellent video. Do you agree?
P.S. 7:35 That wasp freaked me out. Coulda done without seeing that winged menace, in attack mode, stinger at the ready, poised to inject Satanic venom to course through your body like an express train to hell.
Even my dog, who likes watching RUclips, yelped, ran to the bedroom, and then hid under HER down comforter (formerly known as OUR down comforter).
As for me, as I type this I can hear Colonel Kurtz whispering in my ear: "The horror . . . the horror . . . the horror!"

You are welcome on the links and thanks for supporting the channel.
Yes, it is an easy conversion. The hardest part was making everything fit. My first order the balancer was too big, so I had to reorder and try again. But it has worked flawlessly and it looks like it was done at the factory. So I think it turned out great.
Re Wasp: Yeah, just thinking about it I go it flight mode. I did not expect it as it was so cold. I was heating up the room so I could work. It must have been hiding in the corner. Here is a video from 3 years ago [short beard LOL] where I got stung 5 times while putting up the pool, that was rough. ruclips.net/video/yYvn2ujOPyc/видео.htmlsi=5Sf9MRJ0QcdoX-bV&t=699

I have not run it to exhaustion, but I am sure I could get 80-100 miles especially if not on the highest setting. I rode for 5 hours on a wooded trail with just the stock battery. I had to come out of the woods to finally get it to die LOL You can see that video here: ruclips.net/video/PofK1U-vWDA/видео.htmlsi=T17HHubp4iaK8VQq

That's right, install a big battery on the rear rack. Now let go of the handlebars while doing 30mph.
    Death wobble.

It affected my Philodo more than this folding bike. Probably something to do with being lower on the center of gravity. But crazy thing, it went completely away when I changed the tires on my Philodo. Now I can ride no handed again to the dismay of my wife LOL. The Hanevear, it brought a very slight wobble if I am going full speed and lean back. which I am sure I can eliminate with changing the air pressure in the tires or adjusting the seat. All that being said, I don't like to ride no hands doing 30 mph, too much can happen. Especially when you are old like me. ; )

    Nicccceee, but...
... I decided to get Tim Allen to rewire it for me.
Not sure how it will turn out, but he says it will be like a rocket.
