I love the carry handle sights. I trust them more than a red dot or any other optic. Especially when dropped.

I love carry handles, if your optic goes down, it’s a solid sight system.

    • @Dan-di9jd
      @Dan-di9jd 3 года назад +4

With modern optics and some batteries lasting in the years, I don't see why you would not trust your optic to always be on? Some folks remove all buis from their rifles just to save some weight. While it might not sound like a lot, shaving just a tiny bit of weight and carrying it all day will help greatly.

I have a carry handle on my Ruger AR556… I grew up in the 80s and got into guns in high school in the early 90s, so I come from the day when pic rails and flat top receivers weren’t a thing. That carry handle look *is* the AR15/M 16 to me.

I LOVE the carry handle sight system. A1 or A2, both are excellent. Nowadays, the best I could do was get a flat top with a detachable handle. Nobody makes the old A1 or A2 receivers! Remember just twenty years ago, the built-in carry handle was the default and you paid extra to get the "fancy" flat tops!
    I must be getting old.

It wasn’t originally meant to be a carry hand, was supposed to be a guard for the “trigger” style charging handle in some early AR-10, but it stay en the later models with the current type of charging handle as a based for the rear raised sight. But I agree it really works great for carrying the thing

I spent the earlier years of my AR hobby time building flat tops with various optics. I never went full "tacti-cool" rail insanity, but played with various co-witness dots and flip up BUIS. I have now gone old school, and have 2 carry handle AR's. A third one is in the works right now - M16A1 clone. All of these complement a Mauser bolt gun and an M1 Garand. I am loving the retro fun, and appreciate the stripped down lack of supertech. Every trip to the range with iron sights is a true indulgence in man married to machine. Nice vid, nice guns!

Until yesterday I had never shot an ar15. 40 years ago, however I was awarded my expert marksman ribbon with my pos m16a2. So when I took the plunge into ar15dum I built that exact same a2 hbar (with carry handle) that you were cuddling in the video. Now, I too have romantic /nostalgic feelings. This one just shoots a little better. Bob Woodrow Wilson 2

I love them too, but what feels like home to me is what I just bought. A Colt AR 15 SP1 with a original 3x20 scope on the carrying handle. I was in the USAF for 21 starting in 1984, when I was issued the M16 model 604 which looks and feels like the SP1, which means no brass deflector or fwd assist. The only real difference between the two weapon systems is semi vs full auto and the fwd take down pin, SP1 has a screw assembly.

The M16A2 is very nostalgia for me. I’m a young man 36 years old master stepdad who adopted me when I was four years old, was retired from the military and fall in Vietnam. The first gun I shot was the M1 carbine, and then the A2 with the carry handle.

Kotaboy I have two m16a ones with carry handles one is a retro one is a 1968 Colt that has a tax stamp paperwork and yes has a fun switch. I had an M16 A2 that I carried for the beginning of the Iraq War later switched over to the M4 once our battalion Commander got them for us. Give me a 20 inch barrel M16 any day over a 14 and 1/2 in especially in Afghanistan when you're reaching out a little further than a couple hundred yards.

20" barrels are the best. Shoot some mild steel with M193 out of a 20" and a 16" or 14.5", then compare the effects on the target. There is a significant difference.

I recently picked up a madhouse carry handle, I found it brand new in a clearance section at my local tacticool

My fixed carry handle sight was modified by White Oak Precision now moving up/down on 2 guide rods to assure no twist of sight base as it is adjusted from 200 yard to 600 yard range. This assures my no-wind zero does not need to be readjusted going from 200 to 600 yards. Also the mechanism is 1/4 MOA elevation instead of stock 1 MOA and windage is 1/4 MOA instead of 1/2 MOA. Of course the sight no longer has a BDC function like the stock A2 rifle. It now is marked for 200, 300, 500 and 600 yards. For 1000 yard shooting I use the 600 yard rear sight setting and run down the front sight 3 full revs.

My first AR was a "pre 1994 ban" used pawn shop 1987 PWA lower with a 20" Colt upper with a fixed carry handle that I bought in 2006. I had no idea that the "cheapest, crappiest, oldest" AR-15 in the whole store was worth a small fortune :) I never liked the carry handle, but the iron sights were very accurate. I no longer own anything with a carry handle to show!

I have one that is similar to your 14.5 carbine but I got the fat body handguard and carbine stock instead. I like how you have to dial in the drum. I set it where it bottoms out 6 clicks below the 6/3 marking so that I can have a 100 yard zero and 300 yard zero at the same time. I don't ever go past the Z marking on my drum mostly because the range I'm at is 300 yards max and I don't think you can really shoot beyond that with an ar.

I love reflex optics for flat tops and yes, I will uninstall the optic and run the carry handle time to time. If you have AR15 parts that you still use, always practice with them for optimal efficiency and to maintain a high safety factor of their use. I have an AR15 lower set up exactly how I want it upgrades an all. I have 3 AR15 uppers set up for my change-ups. (1) Home Defense (it’s normal day to day set up), (2) Plinking (3) Hunting. My mounts are all solid QD platforms that maintain zero excellently. This allows easy transitions between the uppers for accessories etc. Any tool is only as good as the Hand, Body, and Soul that welds it. Practice! Practice! Practice!
When your CQB, Medium Range, Long Range skills, as well as your particular weapon knowledge and use of it, you know it’s strong points as well as its weakest, and can operate it effectively in inclement weather, day-night conditions, shooting from different positions as well as left-right, and can maintain high safety gun control whether alone, with friends, or bad conditions. You are that person! Worthy of our Countries Constitutional Rights to bear arms. Whether you taught yourself, learned in the armed forces, law institutions, or gun training operations and classes. To ‘Own’ should be much more than just the right to have. Be that person! Who knows how to maintain, be efficient with, control and keep high standards of safety. Our future with our ‘Rights’ may just depend ‘own-it’.

Here’s what research will reveal: the detachable carry handle sight has a .5 MOA per click elevation value when attached to an A4 and a .75 MOA per click value when attached to an M4. These conditions mean an exacting BDC function from an A4 shooting M855 but a very poor BDC function when shooting M855 from an M4. For example: 24 clicks from 6/3 to 6/3 represents 12 MOA on an A2, which is pretty close to the 12.3 MOA adjustment need going from 300 to 600 meters; however, when the sight is attached to an M4 the 6/3 to 6/3 adjust delivers 19 minutes of adjustment when the need is only for 14 minutes, meaning the shooter will shoot about 2 feet over aim on a 600 meter target. At any rate, the bottom-line is the detachable carry handle sight’s BDC function is awesome when the sight is attached to an A4 when shooting M855 but so bad on an M4 that the M4 should have had BDC markings reset, but of course that did not happen. My solution has been to remark the wheel with fingernail polish.

My issue in basic was a m16a4 that was still relatively new. First or second issue new. When I got to my unit, we had M4s that still had the CAR15 stocks and the half handguard, with the 1913 rails on the bottom. We also had the crappy M68s that would fog up and I could never use due to color deficiency. So it was carry handle only until I got issued an Acog in Iraq.

Anyway I found a brand new Colt carry handle and I was tickle pink. So yeah for me the Colt with the carry handle is classic and I’ll never change it. I have other ARs to play dress up with, I’m keeping the Colt classic.

Mike Carlson not a big fan of the 5.7 by 28 millimeter round. The bullets that were good to get that would penetrate soft body armor and actually were effective were banned or at least impossible to try to get a hold of. And the regular rounds that you fire in the FN pistol and in the AR 5.7 s just really does nothing after about a hundred and seventy-five yards it's good for close-up work. Just loses the power that a cartridge needs to make significant penetration at over 200 yards. More like 175 and I was getting bullets that wouldn't penetrate 3 mm of aluminum. When it first came out I was on board because I liked the AR-15s that had the 50-round magazines I believe that the P90 uses. Then after firing the ammunition that is available to the General Public I wasn't impressed. If we could get the more powerful rounds in 5.7 by 28 mm I would consider building 1. But there's just new cartridges that are coming out that are doing really really well in ballistic such as the 224 Valkyrie and that's really what I'm interested in because the price of the 224 Valkyrie is the same as 223 Remington. And let's face it after spending almost $3 around for my 458 Socom and almost $2.10 around for my 6.5 Grendel I'm down to cheap stuff. LOL

LoL, I totally agree with you on those people who hang everything off their AR’s including the kitchen sink😂 I like and assemble my own A1/A2 clones, real carry handles, ( iron sights) real butt stocks ( not that rickety adjustable crap) and I shoot just as good as my buddy with his flat top/ dot thingy.

I "grew up" in the Army first with the Ms16A1, later with the A2. After 20 years enlisted, I got a commission, and while at training at Fort Benning, we had to qualify with the M4 WITH OPTICS! I could not, for my life, hit the target. I can't remember how I did it, but I did not used the optics and finally qualified using the iron sights.

Really? That seems strange to me. I had the opposite experience. I used to really like the A2 sighting, then I got an EOTech and wow, what a world of difference. I was able to hit targets really fast and easy with it. Matter of fact, I never really looked at the target with the A2. I just concentrated on the front sight post and it would line up and hit the target. With the eotech, I thought it was so cool that I could look at the target. Oftentimes being able to identify and hit targets really easily within a split second compared to the iron sight which was you see the target, then you concentrate on the front sight and hope your target didn't move.

I have a 20” ar with a carry handle sight. It’s a formidable rifle and shouldn’t be underestimated. I can make hits consistently at 300 yards on my 12” steel gong. don’t overlook iron sights.

im in the middle of building a 11.5 pistol with an a2 upper kinda like the comando from heat with the shockwave brace instead of a stock right now i have a 11.5 spikes pistol with a detachable carry handle but i figured if i went with the a2 upper it will save me the weight plus bcm has a 11.5 barrel under 1lb

I like the carry handles too. Built my left handed Stag 20" barrel into a M16A1 tribute with the triangle handguards. Not to fond of the detachable carry handles, though. Anyone know of a company that makes a left handed upper with the carry handle built in?

Lotaboy please help. I want to use a primary arms ACSS 4X prism scope mounted to the top of my carry handle. Any ACOG mounting solution works with it. What is the best way to do that? Just screw in one screw through he carry handle hole? where do I get a special screw like that? It is hard to use an allen wrench to fasten in the existing screw to the scope and it does not fit flush.

You can get an adapter for the carry handle that also allows the use of the iron sights if that helps ya any. www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_4_7?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=ar+carry+handle+scope+mount&sprefix=AR+carr%2Caps%2C219&crid=2JCOJ1ZX4AI6Q

Definitely building an m4 and an A2 soon.

My first experience was in 1985 Ft.Sill OK. And it was with a M16A1. Beat to hell, no finish left on the weapon and rattled like a 72 pinto. Must of came from the jungles of Vietnam. SGT said to use a bullet tip to adjust rear sight. ( my ass!!) Site was seized up, but I wasn't going to complain to a drill sergeant. Was lucky to get Marksman out of that thing but I will have to say one thing for it ,it never jammed, never gave me one lick of mechanical problem. So i say thank God for red dots!!

I bought a PSA AR 15 carrying handle, and it was a piece of junk. The rear sight component was night, a tight fit to the charging handle body, and that caused the rear sight aperture/ring to kant to the left. I could not get a battle sight zero without adjusting the windage all the way to the opposite direction almost and still had issues!
Make sure as soon as you buy a retro carrying handle for an AR, go shoot with it and get a battle sight zero at 25m/yards just the iron sights before you decide to keep it and mount a picatinny rail and red dot into the carrying handle!!
PSA got me for $65 for a POS PSA carrying handle that is worthless if I ever need to resort to my iron sights!
I only bought the PSA carrying handle to make an AR15 - M4 retro clone, and I wasted my fkin money on the PSA carrying handle!
