Not only that but I am showing my painting process using the brand new FX line of paints from Plaid. This HD Foam mask is very easy to assemble and to make it even easier I am sharing a free PDF template for the mask so you can build right along with me. This DIY holiday hack project is perfect for Halloween or a trip to the store.

you are insanely talented and skilled. I just discovered foamsmithing and I am hooked after watching your video on Blick's channel. Awesome work and exceptional tutorials.
@@ananita6888 thank you so much!
Are there any alternatives to the foam?
Where are the free PDF patterns?
@@manonliavais on my website there is a link in the video description
Looks creepy. I wasn't sure about the purple but it is much more subtle after it dried.
Yeah the FX paint don't have as high a pigment count as the Liquitex heavy body paints as an example. So I think they work well as glazes or color shifts
Yeah, im also not sure about the FX purple it makes it look like a neon-ish plauge mask
Absolutely love this!! My 9 year old decided this is what she wants to be (I cracked up that she even knew what this was). I’ll be buying a store bought costume in case my diy skills really don’t come through. Lots of time to practice though.
That’s awesome to hear!
Did you make it? Did you shrink it down or go with the size from the template? My 10 year old went from grim reaper to this.
That's great! Something to wear out at the grocery store 🙂
Hell yeah!
it would also keep your other mask on
That stitching technique is just so dang cool! Great work on this mask. Really enjoying the increase of video content and getting to see more of your painting and making techniques.
Thanks man and more videos are on the way!
My friend really loves the plague doctor so im gonna try make this for him!!
Awesome! Have Fun!
Ayo same, im doing it for they re bday
Right, the "economy"
But I was just thinking this would be in this Halloween.
Great tutorial! Your videos are so well shot and you really explain the process thoroughly!
Thank you very much!
Thank you for all your hard work! Your pdf files, supplies and videos are all exceptional quality! I look forward to trying many of them :D
Thank you very much! I love hearing that 👍👍
Loved the pattern! I wear this to school and the grocery store, great conversation starter
Thanks!
I love this immensely! I noticed you have more templates like this up on the same site and I'm hyped, so I subscribed to you! I am also on Patreon and when my budget allows for it, I plan to allocate some funds to support my favorite creators. You're top of the list thanks to this Plague Doctor mask - I've been thinking about it and trying to find templates since the start of the pandemic!
Thank you very much!
oooo the foil technique looks AWESOME!! this turned out great and was so satisfying to watch :)
Mira Scarlet Thank You!
Dude you're amazing for not only creating a free template, but then giving a tutorial on how to make the template work. The mask looks super cool and I will be making this myself so thank you very much for creating this.
Glad you like it!
Just made up 4 of these for a Renn Faire...thank you so much for sharing the pattern! We got tons of compliments!
You're welcome!
Hey Steve, just built this for my daughter's Halloween costume - came out brilliantly! Your templates are the best.
That’s awesome! 🙌
This is amazing! My 10 year old wants to go as a plague doctor for Halloween. Last year we did Edward scissor hands. I love that he wants to be cool stuff and not just a plastic store bought mask! This looks very achievable and he can help me with it.
That’s fantastic to hear!
Great mask, will definitely get the template. As an aside, I like to texture my foam prior to cutting using scrunched up foil and a dry hot iron to make a leather texture
Thanks! and yeah that technique definitely works well too!
Building the mask, it’s looking awesome
Thank you for so many really cool tips on building all in one video. Great video!
Thank you!
wow i wish i found you sooner thank you so much for the pdf and the foam it's amazing stronger than the stuff you can get from those bulk stores and cheaper than most
You are very welcome! Enjoy the PDF and thanks for supporting!
amazing video!! loved this tutorial, super easy to follow :) keep up the great work!!! :)
Thank you!
This is such an AWESOME video.
I've been stressing about how I'm gonna make this for my kid and you have made it so easy. THANK YOU!!!
You’re welcome! 👍👍
Well. I love this. Going to make one now!
C3D PROP SHOP Thank You!
Played your vids so many times without skipping ads. Hope it'll help. More crafts to come!
Thank you! Glad you liked the build!
I love to make new masks with different techniques, thanks a lot, maybe when i have more practice with this version i can make one in leather
Thanks for sharing it. Your work is amazing, congratulations!
Looks awesome! Can't wait to make this and throw my own 2020 spin on it!!!
Thank You!
Well came looking for leather instructions stayed for the foam instructions! Looks badass I can get over the fake stitching I was definitely thinking it was stitched nice work!!!
Thanks! I’ve got an even more detailed one planned out for this Halloween 👍
This is so cool!!! You are so talented!
Joleen miller Thank you!
Thank you so much!! I drew the sketch out on paper and I’m gonna change the design once I figure out exactly how I want to piece it together!!
You’re welcome 🙌
@@SKSProps I’ve never been this excited before lol! This seriously helped me a lot!!
Thank you for the pattern! I made a great costume for my 11 year old - he loves it. I would attach a pic but I don't have the option to do so.
That is so awesome to hear and you are very welcome!
New sub! Great work, truly amazing to watch your work❤️
Thank you very much!
Awesome as always!!!! Have I already said that I am your fan?
Alvin Portillo Thank You 🙏
Love the project and oddly appropriate with everything that is happening. Is there a specific type of respirator or filter you recommend when heating up foam, working with contact cement, sanding foam, etc? Also, how often do you recommend changing filters?
Thanks! and I've got links in the video description for some of my favorite tools. I change the filters about ever 6 months
You are sooo awesome your props is very awesome and some things that you make like from games is insane but still awesome and the fact that you give the tamplets free is even better so thank you you have made it easy for me and others
Thank you very much and you are welcome have fun with the build!
Lately I've been doing my own props and this will make a great addition to my mask collection.
.thanks
You’re welcome! 👍
thanks for the template!! my friend's son loved it!!
That’s great to hear you’re welcome!
I’m hoping to use this pattern with some random pleather I have. I’ve never worked with pleather before so it will be interesting
Let me know how it turns out 👍
OMG I MADE THIS AND IT LOOKS AMAZING THANK YOU SO MUCH!
You're Welcome!
I was literally looking for an exact tutorial on this! Thank you so much!
You’re welcome have fun with the build!!
@@SKSProps Hi! Is there any different way to size the template properly besides using Adobe?
@@ghost_toast8393 adobe acrobat “reader” is free just download it. Then in the print options click poster to scale properly over several sheets
Ooo, I was doing the wrong one. Thank you for the clarification!
We usually have fun runs every year in october, and if we have a covid theme, I'll do my best to do make this!
Awesome! And have fun!
oh my ga bro thanks for the tut! i can finally make this for my school project
Amazing work! Very Simple! Thanks
Cheers
Thank you!
I legit have every color of the fx paint. We sell it at Michael's (I work there) and I'm obsessed lol
Thank you so much, this is amazing bro you deserve more popularity
Thank you!
Very, very cool. I probably will use some kind of cord and actually stitch the mask together instead of the look of stitching. It will be stronger too. Thanks for the design templates and ideas.
Thanks! Have fun with your build 👍
I love this! I might try to make a cheap version with plain black foam and real stitches in case I have somewhere to go for Halloween.
Thanks!
Amazing! Thanks so much for sharing!
Thank You and you’re welcome!
This is incredible!!!!
Fundamental Film Thank you very much!
thanks, i have used this several times
Awesome 🙌🙌
@@SKSProps it actually helped me pass am art assignment at school, not directly copied but used as a rough idea based off memory and made my brother a mask for halloween.
Excellent job!
Thanks!
I know this might be an odd question, but what size do I need to print the template? Normal 8 by 11 paper? Or am I going to need to change my printer settings? This came out absolutely amazing, I'm excited to throw my own spin on this! Awesome work. 🍻
Open the pdf in adobe acrobat and click “poster” this will scale the template properly across 2 sheets of regular paper 👍
@@SKSProps thanks so much for the info!!
Oh thank you!! Had the same q!!
Perfect, I had the same question too and figured I would find the answer in the comments. 😘 I will definitely send a picture and donate once done. Thanks so much!
@@SKSProps Don't I have to buy adobe acrobat? Are there any other platforms I can use instead of that?
wow ! great work !
fernando anthunez Thank You!
I subbed just because he made this
Awesome design
Phillip Bates Thanks!
Thank you so much for generosity providing the instruction and pattern! I made one and it came out great! Only critique is that the bit with threading the straps was really hard to follow.
I just finished making one and I just wanna know how you managed to make it so even and also do the stitch stuff so easily
Well I guess the best answer is practice. I've been working with eva foam for over 7 years and have learned a lot during that time. Go check out some of the really detailed costumes and props I have built on my site and you'll see what I mean
You are GOOD dude!
Imma build this
This will make family reunions much much more interesting
Really cool project Steve I wanted to ask why do you seem to prefer super glue over contact cement on these smaller projects?
Super glue is much easier to control and keep the project clean. I pretty much only use contact cement if I am covering large or heavy wear areas but even then I still use super glue along the edge for clean lines.
I made this. FYI, all the 6mm sections can be made to fit on two 9"x12" sheets of foam. The 2mm detail bits require less than 1 sheet.
Great job it’s awesome
Thank you very much!
I built this mask using craft foam, assembling it with leather lace instead of glue. it doesn't sit on my face like I expected, but it still looks cool and I assume it's good for a starter
Thanks for trying it out and yeah designed more as a starter project or people new to foamsmithing.
@@SKSProps I also posted a pic on Twitter and tagged you in the replies if you'd like to take a look at that. thank you for the great starter design, and I'll likely be checking out more of yours!
Perfect now I can use this plus a cloak and fake and sickles to complete my look for Halloween
🙌🙌
This is perfect for My Hero Academia fans! Overhaul Cosplay and other Villian cosplays!
Glad you like it 👍
I'm going as Overhaul! I'm going to make this mask but modify it to look like his.
Im dressing up as Violence from Chainsaw Man
Finally I can vibe with my friends
Awesome my friend. Thanks for the wisdom.
Glad it was helpful!
Very cool
Thank You!
my 11 year old sister decided she wants to be a plague doctor for halloween this year lol! this was extremely helpful, thank you!:)
You are so welcome!
Waaaaaa perfect!
Great stuff!!! 👍you got a new subscriber
Thanks!
this comment section is so wholesome i think i cried a little
Always trying to promote positivity
I was gonna be Harry Potter but this is a perfect costume idea and Im a really artistic person so I feel like this would be perfect! :D idk why I randomly thought of making on eof these but I'm not complaining
This is so cool! I'm making this for my Halloween project this year! do you know how to resize the template in Pages? or should I just use Adobe Acrobat?
mia grace awesome have fun! use acrobat click poster to resize properly
I'm stoked with your craftsmanship, on this and other builds. Is your foam available only in the US or do you have some distributors in Europe?
First off Thanks! At this time all of my HD-Foam is exclusive to Blick Art Materials they do ship internationally but I'm sure it's not cheap. I've heard Poly prop foam overseas is ok, not as good as mine, but better than floor mats. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos more are on the way!
@@SKSProps didn't know about those. Thanks to Kamui cosplay I also found a site in Belgium that has some foam, but as I'm still starting, it has been mostly floor mats, just to get a good feel and experience under the belt.
i will use this for a cosplay
Awesome! Have Fun!
@@SKSProps it's gonna be scp 049
Man how in the hell isnt he famous. This man is a literal god holy shit i am athiest but damn . The prints are free and the cosplays are topclass as well. Love your work man ! Can you do more full cosplays.
Thanks
Thank you very much! and I just started a new video series on a full costume Dwarf Ironbreaker
Thank you so much for this
You're welcome!
OOOOOH, I definitely wanna make this to wear at work (I'm a barista) on Halloween. Do you think one could wear glasses under this comfortably?
Awesome, I think if you added more padding to the forehead to bring the mask out glasses might work. 👍
Cool, we've got a dark red one, from a Ren Faire recently
First, AWESOME! Second, any recommendations if I want to make this out of leather vice foam?
Thanks! It’s the same exact build most of my leather friends build out of foam first as a guide
THANK YOU SO MUCH,MAN! Won another subscriber!
do the mask of the character Bloodhound (Classic or season 6 pass skin) ,from the game Apex Legends next time? I haven't seen almost anything about him being done by any channel. And, if possible, could you make his ax too or some weapon from the game, like the "Peacekeeper" shotgun? Thanks!
Love the plague doctor, and your mask looks great. Would it scale okay if I used leather?
I'm not a leather guy but I think it would work fine. Several of my leather working friends use foam as a base to make their templates because the thickness works better than paper
@@SKSProps awesome, thanks. Whenever I can get to doing a project, I'll try to remember and show any progress. 😁
Thanks bro😉👍
this is so cool! im wondering if youre able to also wear glasses underneath the mask? i wanna be im a plague doctor for halloween but im afraid my glasses might get in the way
Add thicker upholstery foam to the back side so it pushes the mask away from your face and you should be good
I love this😍
Thank you very much!
Very cool 😎
You just got a subscriber
This is awesome, thank you
You’re welcome have fun building!
@@SKSProps wait will I be able to do this without a printer?
@@minicrewmate9308 well you’d need a printer to print off the template I made. Otherwise you could just watch the video, see how it’s done, and make your own template
@@SKSProps oh ok
I am excited to try this as my friend cannot even expect that one will have this outfit on Halloween🎃👻🍬🎃👻🍬🎃👻🍬 but the tell the materials of it
i try this plague mask with pleather. lets see, if it works too :D thx for the pattern
You’re welcome! Tag me when it’s complete so I can see!
@@SKSProps it is only the mock-up. i have to get it a little bit harder (and not in pink :P ) cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/406525330027970571/771183344711893013/unknown.png
cool
i have a fun idea with this but the beak opens to be a nightmare-ish toothy maw. im thinking of adding lights behind the eyes if i have time too.
Do it! And be sure to tag me when complete so I can see!
Im gonna cosplay as lunatic cultist from terraria and ill do this thank you!
Awesome! You’re welcome! 👍
I already have one but I want to learn how to customize one
this is very usefull cause im making a fallout style costume so im makeing a metelic gas mask type of this
Awesome glad I could help!
Great video, can you guys tell me whats the difference between hd foam and eva foam? Thanks :-)
Thanks! My HD-Foam is EVA Foam but it's specifically designed by me to be a higher density at the same shore hardness as everyone else. Which means it is easier to work with, cuts cleaner, and sands smoother. And because it's light grey you just need a pencil to mark on it no more silver sharpies.
I’ve been trying to make a plague mask too. How do you keep the lenses from fogging?
I've never had an issue with them fogging but there are lots of anti fog sprays on amazon
I'm planning on making this for my first cosplay but I wonder, is there anything you can use besides upholstery foam to make it more comfortable on your head?
I think any type of expanded foam would work it’s just that upholstery foam is lightweight, comfortable, and can be found on hand in lots of stores
I have used baseball helmet pads in some of my higher end cosplay helmets
@@SKSProps ok thank you for the help!
