The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows, the new studio album - released by new label home Transgressive Records.
Originally intended as an orchestral piece inspired by the landscapes of Iceland, this last year has seen a return to the music in lockdown and develop the work to 11 tracks. Further exploring themes of fragility, loss, emergence and rebirth.

This man is an absolute legend. The frontman for two of my favorite bands, the composer for one of my favorite musicals, an amazing solo debut, and in my opinion, one of the best singing voices around today. Whatever he’s got in store for us, it’ll be great.

@@sensoriummuseum Yes. The Angel of the Western Window, by Gustav Meyrink - The book takes place on many levels, the hero, the Baron Müller gradually "remembers" his past and the past of his family. The closer he finds himself to solving the mysteries that surround him, the more he is in danger his life. The author introduces the reader through the character of John Dee to Rudolfinum Prague and Elizabethan England and thanks to the search for the mystical stone of the sages the past is increasingly intertwined with the present, and long-dead and mythical characters suddenly come to life and assert their claims. He probably doesn't know how much his music means to lot of people, or maby he does. But the fact is, that it really means very much and in someway it makes the diference in the midle of this dark and strange times.

Curious how now that I'm (slightly) on my way out of depression (mind that I may never be fully "out of it") well I'm not as much attracted to his music as I used to be. It's ways too melancholic and repetitive... Still sounds poetic and the arrangements are pretty. But gosh, it's always so sad... And his voice sounds more and more exhausted. As opposed to other singers getting older. But it may just be me too. But anyway, I'm glad if other people are enjoying this.

this album is genuinely one of the greatest albums ive ever heard. at first i wasn't sure id like it with the preview in august, but i listened to it yesterday morning and it made me sob. damon has come such a long way from where he started til now and honestly its extremely admirable. this album has absolutely everything and more to it and honestly i have nothing bad to say about it.

@@CMONCMON007 Oh yeah, it’s up there for me too. Probably my fifth or sixth favorite. GBQ is one of my favorite Damon projects/albums and my ranking always seems to change with each listen, so this is how I’d rank it currently:

What are your other favorites on the album? How do you compare it to Merrie Land? I think it’s better overall, but there’s a few songs on Merrie Landr I prefer over most on GBQ. (Truce of Twilight, Lady Boston, Ribbons)
It’s such a shame and a deep sadness that Tony Allen has left us. His spirit was such a special and unique treat to the world as a whole and music. He was so integral to the band that I doubt they ever considered a new drummer - there’s not a soul on the planet who comes close to his level, even if there was, it wouldn’t be GBQ… so glad D recorded with him for “How Far?” though! Hopefully we’ll get more collabs with Paul and Simon through gorillaz again. I remember in 2018/19 wishing they would come to America and being disappointed they didn’t. Honestly, the fact they released Merrie Land in the first place, especially after Damon was on a long and laborious tour is so incredible and something noone saw coming.

Sorry for the long winded reply, I just get really excited when I hear someone talk about GBQ. Most IRL people where I live don’t know Damon, and those who do only know about gorillaz, maaaybe blur, but never the short lived, esoteric GBQ. Even those on reddit/online forums dedicated to either Damon or Paul don’t get half as much attention as Gorillaz or The Clash.
@@Vincentzw Hey man, I definitely relate to the "I'm so passionate about X but I got no one to talk about it" feeling. I remember when TGTB&TQ were going to perform here in Italy and I had no one to go with, so I can see where you are coming from. I think that the best tracks from the first album are Nature Springs, Kingdom of Doom, A Soldier's Tale and probably Northern Whale. I do agree with you on the title track being somewhat worse than the others, but still, I think it's an incredible album, and one of Damon's finest outcomes. Speaking of Merrie Land, I believe it is on par with the first album. Right now, off the top of my head, I think the best tracks are Merrie Land, Ribbons, The Great Fire, Nineteen Seventeen and Drifters and Trawlers. But it's been a while since I last heard that record, so I don't really remember it.
