One of my favorite details about this set is the silver mask. In 2007's serials, it was revealed that the Ignika is normally gold, but if the universe falls into chaos and suffering, it will change to silver, and eventually to black... and then everyone dies. Like, everything in the universe has its life sucked out and returned to The Great Spirit. And what do we see the next year, when the mask is released in set form? It's turned silver. Oooohhhhhh snap. That's when we knew things were getting real. And then later in the year, black spots started growing on it in the story. The only way they could've made things more epic would be by also releasing a dual-molded, partially black version in a summer wave set. Ah well.
@@ItsAsteri_ I still want that gold variant tbh. I'd love to have it posed with Matoro Mahri, or on some sort of custom-built stand display piece for it
story time: I stole this Ignika from my step brother. He was sort of a personal bully of mine, so I decided to take the mask from this set from him, sort of as revenge, and he didn't even think to look for it in my sets. still have it to this day, and I don't regret a thing

The narrative significance of the universe-shattering MacGuffin watching our heroes protect it for so long... that it wills itself to be one of them. I always kind of regretted not getting this guy just for the story hype alone!
I have a crazy story on how I got this set; I remember I bought it for $0.25 *new, sealed, from the store* back in 2008; a big European hypermarket chain recently opened their first store in my city and had a few crazy night sales, and this set was part of their promotion! There may have been more, but the 6-year old me was too hyped for this particular set that forgot to look for others haha.
I like that toa ignika contains all the colors of the 3 stages of the mask of life Keetorange (gold) Silver when the countdown starts Black when the universe is doomed
I'll always miss my Ignika model. The yellow joints broke so fast after buying it that I really couldn't freely play with it, and at that point my joy and love for the series slowly died because I couldn't PLAY with them anymore.
@@Omabatfartsbruh I believe I threw it out years ago because it was damaged or warped in some way. I still have a bunch that I tried to keep in good shape over the years, but it's a far cry from what I had as a kid
Damn brother I had the EXACT SAME! Once I noticed my bonkles breaking I knew it was over for me, I was around 15/16 years old so I stopped buying and playing with them. But… I have made a comeback, I’m rebuilding my whole bionicle collection and the old stuff is still in very good shape, the later years bionicles did break very easily, but I’m still rebuilding them as good as I can, selling the ones I don’t want to hold on too and relive the childhood nostalgia in the meanwhile :)
It's been a blast! The reactions like this warm my heart, it's truly a special thing to be able to relive this series alongside everyone else and reigniting positive memories and feelings along the way
That makes me wonder if Ignika is Matoro but the mask basically reused his soul to create this body. One moment, Matoro sacrificed himself to save the mask and the next thing we know, the mask has a body
My 100% all time favorite bionicle set. It has so much nostalgia value and personal value for me. And a couple years later I picked up the Golden mask from the Toa Mata Nui set for 25 cents at a yard sale
Having been introduced to Lego around late 2008, early 2009, I was unfortunately too late to collect these sets when they came out. I however managed to get my hands on Phantoka Lewa and Toa Ignika here. Being introduced to Bionicle when Mata Nui himself, wearing the mask of life, was the main character, I was absolutely obsessed with getting this set and it stands to this day as being my favorite Bionicle build. I always loved positioning Ignika so that he's leaning forward cause it made him look like he was accelerating on his board.
This is the earliest I've been to one of these videos. I remember always wanting this set as a kid, and finally owning it was actually really fulfilling. Sure, the two halves aren't super spectacular, but I think as a whole: it's really awesome. Also, a silver Ignika is great to have, and the colors are very symbolic of its stages, in my opinion.
This was a pretty common perspective for most fans, I think. It's awesome to get the Mask of Life, but the torso does seem empty. That being said, I didn't know he had a connection for Av-Matoran on his back! Interesting, considering Takanuva and Icarax don't.
I can't really reason Icarax, but Takanuva himself is light elemental, he doesn't need the support, and he is also overpowered by the Karda Nui, so the power of a light/shadow matoran would be dwarfed in comparison, especially since he has both powers
uhhhhh here are big words! this definitely goes into the top 5 best bionicle sets! I've always wanted this one because I've always liked characters that have a glider, and this one was fully equipped with all those cool blades! LOL
Yeah, Ignika could've been a bit more. I actually used to be quite underwhelmed of the face design, but nowadays I really like it, very strong with arms for eyes and legs for a moustache. Maybe the mask portion beyond the face could've built onto the design a bit more, though, of just A Strong Man, but conversely perhaps the simplicity adds to the striking design.
The orange is meant to be gold, the coloration is meant to represent the Ignika's state, Gold means everything is balanced, Silver, it's started to tick it's timer, Black, everyone is dead.
I recommend swapping the blue pin holding the thruster piece out for that brown 3-long axle with the flat round end. This will totally secure the thruster piece to the hoverboard, and this is especially prudent because the used one I bought, with the hoverboard being partially disassembled, notably had that piece missing along with a couple others.
Thank you so much! It's great to make some more of these and continue along the line! Especially since it's at the point where I never built any of the sets as a kid, they're all new experiences to me
At first I thought you would look at the Phantoka before you got to this. I personally didn't have many of the Titan-size sets released in the first half of 2008, although this one does have some unique elements. Both of the redesigned double socket joints in Keet-orange (Flame yellow) are exclusive to this set, though the hand socket in that color also comes in one other set after this. This is also the second and final set to have the Piraka torso in Keet-orange, and is the second-to-last appearance of the Toa Metru feet in that color. This is also the third of four sets to have the "Power Sword" from Jaller Mahri, and Ignika's legs also feature Nuparu Mahri's shoulder and upper leg armor in silver-as does one of the Makuta Phantoka released concurrently. Ignika's legs and arms mark the third-to-last appearance of the Rahkshi legs in black in a Bionicle set, though they did appear in two sets from the "Hero Factory" theme in 2010. The Sky Board is also the first of two Bionicle sets to have the Technic 12M 3D Panels in black, which had debuted in a "Power Racers" set (8682) in July 2006. The part as a whole had first appeared in Mata blue and white in the Technic Williams F1 Team Racer (8461) in September 2002. The part as a whole was retired after appearing in dark stone gray in another Technic set (8297) in August of 2008. There are also some turbine parts in black which also came in a minifigure-scale Bionicle set (8927) the year before this, and both of these sets were also the only Bionicle sets to have the Technic 10M-8 3D panel in black, having debuted in the Technic 4x4 Off-Roader (8466) in September 2001, and also came in an Exo-Force set (8105) in '07. This set, along with one of the Toa Phantoka are the first of five sets to feature a unique wing element in silver.
