- Welcome to I.E. Euros.
Hi, I am Francisco.
We are a group of vehicle enthusiasts looking for Car meets, car shows, drag racing, roll racing, New cars, etc,..
the timing chain problem affect all audi models with the 3.2 fsi V6 and 4.2 V8 fsi engines
this problem caused noises fornt the rear area of the engine, poor acceleration, check engine light on with multiple timing errors, engine shaking, engine idle unstable, engine stalling, etc,..
the best way to fix this problem is by replacing all the timing chains and timing chain guides. to perform this job the engine has to be removed from the vehicle.

Excellent. Very detailed and informative. Thank you!
Currently planning on doing a full timing chain service on my 3.2 Q5 with almost 200k miles on it. Even for a full timing chain service, it can be done with the engine in the car, but you need to drop the transmission and remove the flywheel. Still a mammoth job. Gotta say, I hate the audi engineers that decided to put the timing chain at the rear of the engine with a huge, firey passion.
how did it go??
2008 A4 you can remove the front grill and acess the whole engine. Sucks feel your pain I got 2 audis one with timing problems and they want $8,000 for it 🤦😑
The engine does not have to come out. It is a tight squeeze but it can be done with the engine in the car. How do I know? I’ve done it. 😁
how much would that cost
@@kenya8096 how much would what cost? To replace the upper tensioners yourself?
@@jasonpatterson7266 to change the time chain tensioner first and or the whole job of replacing everything not from a dealer though
Do you know of any videos that are good showing this?
@@cpreman check out this video ruclips.net/video/fpHOVyEjgZ8/видео.html.
This video won’t show you the entire job but a small portion of it.
Make sure you subscribe to his page. He has tons of great videos.
I have seen other videos that they access from the top of the engine to work on the upper (only upper) tensioners.
Does it mean in some situations we don't have to remove engine? How do we determine such situations...
Salu2 Francisco.
This is what happen when you have a bunch of engineers growing up just playing with there computers and just blindly trust simulations of material durability.
There are 4 timing chains on this engine - main, balance shaft(s), and two upper chains for the cams (one per head). The most common tensioner to fail are the two uppers. These can absolutely be done with the engine in the car, without removing the transmission. later cars with air injection for emissions make this job difficult, but not impossible, as the catalytic converters need to be removed as do the heat shields and combi valves in order to get at the lower bolts for the cam chain tensioner covers. Again, those (most common) can be done in the car without removing the engine or transmission.
ah but you see, its not always the chains that have problems, its the tensioner
Did upper tensioners on my a6 took me a about 2.5 hours a side.you need to use the proper engine lock pin and cam holders tho
What about the VW Passat CC 3.6,where is the location of the timing chain?
Don't need to remove engine
I have a problem with the Audi engine
The problem is that the engine shuts off suddenly after a moment of running it
Can you help me v6 32fsi
Does the 2007 Q7 4.2 requires the engine removal too? Tks
Yes, the timing is on the back.
Currently having same problem with my 4.2
How long can you drive it with this tensioner problem and what will happen eventually if not fixed? Other than the noise, are there any other symptoms associated with this condition?
thx!
To be honest you shouldnt drive that at all. If the chain Slips/Skips or straight up breaks apart, your engine is dead. Broken valves and pistons.
Its also rarely the tensioner, its mostly just the chain stretching over the years
it is mostly the just the noise, in some extreme cases the check engine light can come on with timing codes or the engine is completely out timing and does start art all
Common problem is the guides on these particular engines.
@@ThaTraitor Quite the opposite lol. There is little evidence showing it's the chain at fault when this happens. In fact, it's the tensioner's that fail, then the guides before the chain.
Hi
I see some audi written "v6 3.2 fsi" while some are "v6 3.2". Is there a difference in both?
Fsi (Fuel stratified injection) is a direct injection system meaning the Gas goes straight into the cylinder.
The Plain one is NA
@@ThaTraitor hahaha, not quite but nice try.
Stratified charge is a type of injection that allows for a leaner burn (less fuel consumption).
A regular di fuel system will run stoichometric or slightly rich to create a good burn in the cylinder.
A lean burn in straified charge mode sprays the fuel in intervals, creating a mixture that isn't rich enough to burn. But they overcome this flaw by aiming the injector at the spark plug, and right before the ignition time of the spark plug they spray the last jet of fuel over the plug, when the plug creates a spark there's enough fuel around it to start a burn. Once it's burning the rest of the fuel will combust as well. The problem with a lean burn is getting the burn to start. The pulsed spray tends to keep the cylinder cool, allowing for slightly higher compression ratios than normal, increasing effeciency a little more.
@@piercecooke9649 hahaha, not quite but nice try. This type of multiple injections is in use for ages now. The different between fsi and non fsi is exactly that one is injected into the intake and the other one straight into the cylinders. Dont go sround correcting ppl if your knowledge is on a different subject.
@@ThaTraitor I'm correcting your now contradicted comment, not your knowledge. You said that FSI means direct injection, and that the other type is NA. For a start NA means naturally aspirated, which has nothing to do with the fuel delivery system. NA is the opposite of a charged air intake system. Maybe you were trying to say port injection? Which is also incorrect, there are virtually no modern engines that have port injection due to the effeciency benefits of a direct cylinder injection. You're going to have to articulate yourself a bit better and make a valid argument. NA does not equal port injection, is my point. But sure please do keep testing the guy with a mechanical engineering degree ;)
@@piercecooke9649 never said na equals Port injection and nobody said we are talking about modern engines. My statement was fsi being direct injection and non fsi engines being the classic old na style build meaning injecting in the intake. Yes modern engines barely use anything else than direct injection thats why theres basically only fsi/tfsi engines left. Never said fsi is not na so please kindly stop pulling things i never said cause its really a nice day here and im wasting my time here. Have a nice Day.
I have 2006 Audi A6 3.2 with manual transmission , can I convert to automatic ? Is this possible?
Yes, it is but you need to code the modules
I.E. Euros okay thanks
?Why do you want to change to AUTO?
This might be the most ridiculous comment I've ever seen..... why?
Thank god mine sounds nothing like that
Change the oil every 10k km
