Thanks Don, this is fantastic. And the lesson is there is nothing without the words. Nothing. Love these guys, - writers write and singers sing. Then came Dylan and the Beatles and nothing has ever been the same.

Great to see this. Both had a great sense of humour. I always mainly associate them with the Coasters and the Drifters on Atlantic more than anyone else, the stuff that I grew up listening to when I was still a child.

I just met Mike Stoller ….Great guy..got a picture with him He’s 88 now My band played at Garden Grove Main Street An Elvis tribute all day long Just before he went home 🏠 he agreed to a photo with me He signed my friends vintage Beatles album and bass I asked jokingly if he wouldn’t mind writing us a song real quick on the bass and he laughed it off It was all too cool 😎

Jerry Lieber, the one singing in green, would be 87 today. Luckily this was before the later Late Show policy of forced applause signs after every word.

I once had an audio recording of an episode where Leiber & Stoller were supposed to be guests but got bumped. I can only remember two things:
    * Dave has the opening sequence (I think) play silently before pausing it to say "Doesn't that look like the opening to Miami Vice?"
    * Dave remarks that "LeiberStoller" sounds like a brand of foreign (German or Swedish, can't remember which one) chocolate, leading to him and Paul talking about LeiberStoller with accents. Later, Dave responds to one of Paul's remarks with "Just for that...you're not getting any LeiberStoller."
This ring a bell for you, Don?

Not yet. I didn’t note that they had been bumped, so it’d be needle/haystack time.

Random question: I just watched a Late Show episode from 8/8/94. David brings in from a payphone a Russian woman, and cracks a bottle of vodka and they both drink. Do you think it was real vodka? I recall Dave saying he gave up alcohol in the 80s and only consumed it again when Murray handed him a bottle during the recording of the final show that he thought was a fake.

There were a lot of stories that they could have shared about their experiences with Elvis that weren't told during this interview...but they do discuss more during subsequent interviews else where.....This was too short of a sit down segment unfortunately....but still golden because they sand their songs...
