OMG what fantastic memories I have of spending two weeks at the Ponsmere in 1979 with my husband and baby daughter (now mid 40's ) It was the first of many happy holidays at this fantastic hotel run by the wonderful Mrs Bachelor and her son Peter, now both sadly deceased. I remember clearly the entertainers Vicki Lee with the Keyboard player/ drummer referred to in a later comment We bought an LP of Howard's, I can't recall many of the songs except for one called Sometime When We touch which is a beautiful song. I think the album was in the name Howard King where the other person who posted and worked with him refers to him as Coley so I can only assume King was a stage name. I wish I knew what had happened to the record. I remember Vicki being a great entertainer and all the kids being marched off to bed with their parents every so that the adults could have some grown up entertainment. One year the Cornish comedian Jethro appeared he must have been just starting out in his career. My family members and their children were still going to the Ponsmere up to it's demolition, Such a sad day when the old place was knocked down. Perranporth was such a fantastic place for a peaceful safe family holiday. I hope it still is, we've not been back for about 30 years but thank you for posting this and taking me down memory lane. Wow cafes and shop buildings hadnt changed much since had they! We discovered the Ponsmere Hotel aprox 2010 and went back every year. Great place for parents as kids were so entertained. Good food and entertainment. What a shame it had to go. Very interesting film

Hello mate. You're so lucky to have that footage. My parents only took the odd pic now and again and I have nothing much to look back on. Hope all is well. We seem to be living on courgettes at the moment, will be tomatoes next month I guess then the potatoes. I think it's going to get tougher but we have plenty of rabbits and pigeons here and even the odd deer. Woods piled high for the winter, can't really afford any more oil so will try and make it last. Well we just opened the jar and tried them and they are delicious. I was looking into preserving without freezing, boiling or pickling. If I can do that I will eventually do away with the freezer if poss. I would like to cancel the electric eventually. We use less than the standing charge most days, all this sun helps my solar. Take car mate.

This area in the uk is the best for beaches, its on the south west coast of the UK, around 340 mile from where we live now. keep safe and good luck, the world is getting very crazy and the self sufficient and frugal will get through this. Hello, Wow ! amazing ! ! i do remember vaguely of a band. ha ha so we meet again ! We was there in mid summer, We were there when a break in happened at night and the cash till was broken into and stolen, my brother found it round the back buried in the sand, the owner was so please that he let my dad have some free meals from the restaurant. I also remember that there was racing ( grey hound i think ) on the TV some evenings that you could have a bet on, after that the entertainment started which was probably you and the other band members. Hello Moose, hope your keeping well, all is fine here, the solar water well pump hut will be finished next week all ready for the bad drought we are having ! its as bad as 1976 ! even the mouth of the river Thames is 5 miles shorter than normal, just a dry river bed ! Why did we do that in the '70s? There's always a picture or video of a kid pointing off to nothing. We did it in the US as well. I never understood that. When we went somewhere and my mom took pictures, she always said point somewhere off in the distance like you're pointing at something exciting.
