Thanks for the videos! Back in October of 2023 I got hired with Citgo petroleum. Ffw to now I’m a qualified operator in a fluidized catalyst cracking unit. On turnaround right now. Thanks for all the info. Godbless
This is a good video. I want to make a transition from the medical field back to where I started, working at the plants. This time of a more higher position, no disrespect to those hard working men.
New to your channel I’ve been looking for something to catch my attention and I think I’ll be going to school to become an operator. Thank you for your content 🙏🏼🙏🏼
What’s going on Mr.Wells my name is Iann I’m 22 years old I have no experience in this field other than working a shutdown recently as a laborer in construction and this video helped me to understand what to expect. I applied to be a refinery operator and I really need this job opportunity, is there any way I can schedule a call with you where you can help me to know a more in depth version of exactly what I need to study and maybe what I need to refresh on to put me in the best shape to be selected to move forward in the hiring process?
@@arashebadtabrizi1301I got in! Thanks for asking! I actually took a test for a pipeline controller. I start the 15th life changing industry super blessed!
Man, I just finished school about a month ago. I'm going to be watching your videos every day. This video gave me even more confidence about taking an assessment test. Are you still taking a look at resumes?
@Winning With Wells OK, thanks. I'm going to update my resume today and send it. One more question. I am 42. Do you think that it's going to be harder to get into this line of work at this age? I'm a young 42 though lol
I took an initial test for process operator. I passed now I’m getting ready to take what they called table top problem solving exercises. Any insight or links to help study I’ve never done a test like that.
Nice! A table top problem solving exercise is basically a group activity where you and 3 others will have to perform certain operator tasks such as following a procedure, operating small pumps or valves, communicating, troubleshooting, etc while being observed by a panel of 4-5 people from the company. I have a video explaining and demonstrating an example of this exercise in my Process Operator Course below. winningwithwells.gumroad.com/l/orsyo
@@winningwithwells Thanks a bunch man! I passed that portion of the testing process! Now I’ve been watching your videos preparing for my interview, very good information so far especially regarding appearance and showing up clean shaven. I have long dreads and a beard I’m coming in a brand new man! I’m cutting my hair and shaving the beard for my interview. This is the furthest I’ve ever made it in the process and I believe now is my time.
Wells I been watching your videos, I have just finished my operators test for a refinery hear in Minnesota. I felt good about the entire test although there was two questions I didn’t get to answer before time expired on 1 section do you think I have failed because of this? Thanks for your videos!
That shouldn’t affect your score too bad. Usually they grade the test as a percentage and as long as you meet that number you will pass. Example: 80% is the passing score for the total of all the test sections combined. As long as each section adds up to 80% overall then you will pass
I’m not understanding what you are asking me. The job position is hourly and the raises are negotiated through the union or preset from the company. It maybe different where you are located
I got an invitation from marathon petroleum to take a test for an operator position. Is this the same thing I should be expecting? I am taking that test through an application called proctorfree.
Please do you have a guide or a material I could use in preparation for a competency assessment for a field operator role. I am quite confused about what I’m really going to be expecting please help me out Thanks
Hey Wells, I have a test coming up Tuesday and they are using the Workkeys test. Will this basically be the same thing? I bought the poss mometrix book and have been studying for awhile. I’m just nervous not knowing if I’m studying the right material or not. I’m also in the Ptech program and my professor sent me a ACT workkeys practice test and it’s way harder than the book.
Yes there will be qualifications you will have to obtain once you are assigned a unit and shift letter. Both companies I have worked for does this with everyone in operations. The test will be in 3 parts: 1. Written Exam 2. Walk through/ Unit demonstration 3. Process Unit Drawings Hopefully this helps!
Yes sounds like you passed and are moving forward in the hiring process. Usually companies will let you know in the email if you passed or need to retest.
Each test block is timed as a whole, not per question? I ask this because I guess there is an older test that would flash a question and would disappear in seconds. While it was grade 0 to 100 and I believe this current test is 0 to 15. Lastly, I have heard conflicting answers, guessing is penalized, correct? I also heard it's not. Then I heard quality over quantity. Your input would be greatly appreciated.
Q1: Depends on the company, usually each section will be timed. Example: 45 mins for Math 30 minutes for Mechanical Aptitude..etc Q2: The grading is PASS or FAIL there is a threshold you have to get above to pass. Example: 200 questions for the test you have to get 130 answers correct no matter the order. Now within the Personality Section of the test. Conflicting answers will count AGAINST you. Example: If you answer YES to “I am a safe person” then later answer B. Speed through a yellow light from a multiple choice question “What do you do when you come to a Yellow Light at an intersection?” Then these are conflicting. A safe person would slow down and prepare to stop. Unsafe person would try to speed through. Hopefully this help!
Is it true that you only need high school diploma for this types of jobs as i was doing my research they said most of the jobs only required high school diploma or equivalent. For entry level jobs.
