Erika that plant is the most simple plant on earth!! I have been taking care of those longer than you have been in the world!! That plant can deal with a lot of sunlight ,it can dry out and still live. I have repotted it and cut it's roots and it still lives!! Erika it's trail and error and years!! Keep on gardening!!!
I left mine on covered back patio during winter and it turned black and died. It came back in spring bigger and more beautiful! I’ve had the same one for years now! They are very easy to take care of!
@@jacobtorres2521 I experienced something similar in New Jersey. She was outside all summer and I absolutely did not expect what a beauty this plant would be, and brought it into my unheated front porch, and we got a cold snap that came thru and I think it was as cold as -10 degrees and I almost lost the sweet thing. But I just cut back everything that looked damage and now the first new growths are almost as thick as they were prior to their cold shock and I’ve been counting the days to repot it closer to spring this bad boy is soooo root bound you can feel the huge roots bulging out in the sides of the nursery pot so wish me luck 😂
I have a P. selloum that my mom bought in 1991. They're INCREDIBLY hardy and forgiving. Literally if you want a low maintenance plant that grows big ( mine is like over 5 feet including pot ) I 1000% recommend this plant.
These plants grow massively beautiful! If you don’t have the space, don’t get them or prepare for dividing! They love moisture ( leaves go limp or leathery when in need of water) loves very bright shade with dappled sun., doesn’t seem to be a heavy eater. Plant is such a rewarding plant if happy , pushes new leaves all year long! ** it will forgive you and reward you back if you give some attention *** so easy to care for such a lovely plant.
I have been reviving mine on my front covered porch. It was down to one leaf, but it is grown 2 more new ones since I put it out there. I really love that concrete pot you put yours in.
My Selloum is kept outside year round. I left it in the same pot for 10 years. It got watered when it rains. I decided to do the same thing. I cut her back completely. Gave the top part to my daughter. ( 50" tip to tip wide ) I repotted in a much larger pot. It's got 4 growth points and growing like crazy. It's gorgeous. I take plants off death row pretty often. I've got a bunch of beautiful flowering anthuriums and a peace lily that I have saved so far. It's fun !
I didn't know these could take any amount of sun. I rescued two of these which had been long neglected. They were stretched out and extremely dry. I set them on the North side of my house and in just in a few hours of sunlight, the leaves got burned. So, now i know they were burned because they were not used to the sun, not because they can't take sun. thanks for the video!
great video Erica, the sun burn thing happens even to my fig tree. But great save, what you did should save it. Chunnnkkkyyyy! lol The cuteness. Keep up great videos.
Looks like an entirely brand new plant!! Erika you're so amazing, your TLC really helps your lovely plants! This was awesome, I LOVE how you showed the 2 months later update in the same video!! :) keep up your great work and thank you for all the tips, you're helping my plants too! ❤

You know what,,I love your videos, your SUCH a SWEET girl SUCH joy to watch see your passion for plants ,too love plants the outdoors , THANKS DO MUCH, keep up the good work,!
I don't know if this is actually the case but i've noticed that Home Depot sells larger versions of this plant. While Lowe's sells them in a smaller pot and the foliage are also much smaller. Just what i've noticed lol. I've been keeping an eye out for one at Home Depot and i've been unlucky so far.
This plant is on my list. I just got a two cuttings from a gal that takes care of house plants as her business. I’m worried though bc the cut them with no nose. Only the leaf. I’m sorry very hopeful but at least the leaves look nice for now:)
At times stamp 7:50 it looks like a plant pot tray but it's really what you would drain oil into when you change the oil on your car lol! Wow I want one of those water trays where'd you get that? LOL ! Oh well, whatever works.
I just went to Lowes and bought this plant yesterday on clearance and it looks deceased. Thanks for the video :) Hopefully I can get mine healthy again!
I rescued one at my mom’s work and it’s growing like a weed!! It’s literally one of my favorite plants I own! There’s one at my school that looks so awful and it makes me sad, I’m honestly thinking about asking to take it home and take care of it, then taking it back to my school (or just keeping it lol)
What do you do when the stalk is taller? Mine is about 12" above the soil level before the leaves start. And also, do I do anything with the air roots?
How do you tell the difference between overwatering and underwatering. Mine is having leaves turn yellow and then brown. I am not sure if it’s overwatering or underwatering. My plant doesn’t have drainage holes so I am afraid of overwatering. But I also don’t want it to get too thirsty. It also just put out a new leaf. Please help.
Oh you’re drowning it for sure. Your pot NEEDS drainage. It’s not allowing that soil to dry out at all and I’m not sure they’re like great or not in water. I just don’t know honestly. Don’t feel one way or the other lol but please please please don’t do all this work for your plant and then put it in a murder pot. 😂
I planted 75 of those plants at a job I completed in downey in a apartment building where there is olmost no sun only some filtered sun light and the really started to spread everywhere and I realized that if I purchased less I would've save $ and bet the same results with less plants lol 🤣

These are actually no longer considered a philodendron, they were reclassified in 2018 as a Thaumatophyllums (same for the Xanadu).
There’s always one person in the comments section who is a know it all. SMH.

Could you please share what kind of charcoal you used and possibly where you bought it? Awesome video, learned alot.
You want either activated or horticultural charcoal 🙂❤️ Many plant supply shops carry it
Well done! The plant looks much healthier now :)
Btw that species has been reclassified as Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum. So not a Philo after all.
Great comeback 🌿 Erika
She looks so much better! Love this video and the beautiful pot you put her in! They look so elegant together. 👏🌿🥰💚

What is the point that you greaded up the pot?

What do you do when the stalk is taller? Mine is about 12" above the soil level before the leaves start. And also, do I do anything with the air roots?
Support it. Whether that’s via moss poles or the stake thingys, but I always count on a good couple foot long chunk of bamboo to tie off too.
How long did it take you to transform your plant?
I bought a selloum plant and water it for the first time and leaves became mush any suggestions I have it close to a window now. so I hope that s help

Mine was doing sooooo good for over a year and then all of a sudden it started turning yellow so fast! It’s barely holding on and I want to save it! 😭
I've been giving my Plants Vitamin Water, (room temperature) and they're doing good.....
no mention of nutrients.. ??
