Love ur Video. I own a 2016 Kia Optima. Within 3 week both back windows failed and the left front window failed. Mind you I only have 37k miles on her. Dealership wants nearly 4k to fix. Class action in the process
I have the same issue my driver side and both back windows don’t go up or down and the back right window just keeps falling down I have to duck tape it
I'm a nervous novice but this gave me more confidence. Getting the initial panel off seems so much easier and less intimidating than getting into the window chamber. I'm in Florida and this happened a week or two ago after owning it for 3 years with above average window use.
Hi, Im Carrie. Thanks for the video. It was so less stressful having hands on training. Im from Texas, San Antonio and my 2016 kia Optima definitely has the window gear problem breaking. Three of the windows had the same issue. I didnt buy the panel just replaced the gear and i wish i had replaced the panel because the wire was a problem getting it to stay on. Got it done though.
I have the exact same problem, 2016 Kia optima , window (driver side) is loose big gap (upper left, from inside) I can hear the wind whistling, seems like it’s loose from the track , it seats on , it gets stuck when trying to roll the window up , have to try several times, holding the button insistently , will have to take it apart , the sooner, the better, thanks for sharing your excellent video , will help a lot , from , Los Angeles ,California, thank you for your help, time ( liked & subscribed )👍
I'm here in Orlando. Have had to replace all 4. And now the two fronts are messed up again. With mine, the plastic part that the window motor crumbles and breaks. It is a terrible design. This piece has to be less than five dollars but Kia makes it so you have to replace the entire panel. This is absurd.
My Kia is just like that same color /model everything . My windows both driver & passenger side don’t work , not going up , and I’m in TX so maybe your right about the dry and getting cracked . Thank you for sharing this vid , I’ll go by this to replace mine . Oh …you had some chipmunks singing in the background lol
Be careful because at any point the windows could drop and you would have to manually push them up and secure them to stay. Thank you so much for your feedback and for watching. God bless
@@rollcam321 All my windows fell over a period of like 8 months or a year . Been this way for at least 2 years know with no help fixing it , so I’m about to do it myself . At least the 2 front ones . I’ve already fixed my knock sensor and my Variable charge motion Actuator …then I cleared my Admissions Drive Cycle this week … car has been down for 3 weeks and got tired of waiting so I fixed it myself . Sooo I figured since I down that the windows would be no problem for me to fix as well . And I never rolled down my back windows for them to go out so fast or my front passenger side really . I’ll just be glad to get it fixed , just tired of the whistling when my wedge starts working the windows back down 😫

2016 Kia optima ex, live in Louisville KY. I noticed my back passenger window was cracked and I couldn't roll it up, but could here motor so I put a suction cup on it to hold the glass up until I could fix it. 3 days later my back drivers window just dropped down while I was on the interstate, same symptoms. Now its a two door job and it makes me worry about the front ones.
Im in Tampa, FL and I have a 2016 optima and all 4 of my windows have stopped working. Fixed the first time at the dealership but was $600. Going to try on my own this time. Or if you’re located near Tampa and wants some business let me know! Either way, thanks for making this video!
I’m in central Florida and I’m having a really hard time finding the window regulators I need the passenger and driver side. Any idea where I can get the parts from?
Yes I’m not too far from your area actually. I’m in brevard county. Try LKQ or eco yard I think it’s called off of 50 Eco Green Auto Parts is the correct name.
This is just flat out wrong. Look how many people are coming here and talking about this! I'm sorry, but this type of thing needs to be a RECALL. I tell everyone I know, don't ever buy a KIA. They sell you on an affordable car with cool tech, but what the average Joe doesn't know is they are built with terribly cheap parts. I've used this as a second car with use a couple days a week, at most. average 5k miles and its garage kept year round. I've got 69k miles on a 2014 and starting at 30k it's been constant problems. But to expect all of the people with window issues to have to drop $1k for a window regulator (when the part costs $150) or $600 by my dealer is criminal. How many other cars have window regulators fail at 69k miles? I've never experienced or heard of anyone with other car brands! Cheap. Never again will I buy a kia. lol.
Located near Tampa, 2012 Kia Optima Ex front passenger window. So far was able to remove panel to get the window up. Where did you make your purchase to buy the part?
I live in Colorado I have a 2019 Kia Optima and My back driver side came off track twice. The window specialist says they have no idea why it’s doing it or what’s causing it. Should I replace the inner panel?
I have a 2016 optima. This happened to all four of my windows within a 18 month period. First tear passenger, rear driver, front passenger. And front driver. Three were covered under warranty. Last window was not. Although it was going up/down very slowly and I knew it was going to happen next, my local Kia dealer refused to fix it. I contacted Kia and they refused to fix it. Seems it should be a recall. Apparently low quality parts/engineering flaw. I will never buy another Kia vehicle for this reason.
Yo I just had all 4 of my windows do in a 7 month period. Like I thought someone was messing with me. First one went we fixed it then another one then another one and now my last one I live in Florida and keep my car outside. What else should I expect to go wrong with my car. Lol
Well, let’s see. More than likely here are some things that will/can go bad. Mine did. Trunk latch. For whatever reason, it just stops working. I was at the store one day, look out the window and my trunk was wide open. I was 30miles from home. Luckily I had a tie down strap in the trunk that held me over til I got home. I had to order a trunk latch off Amazon. Oil pressure switch. It went bad, cause engine light to come on. I bought a replacement and changed it myself. It’s in an odd location. I finally got it though. Acceleration!! When getting in the highway, I could get up to like 70mph and then it would “loose power”. Car was still running but I could not do more than 50mph. Did this like 5 times. Very dangerous. Once I pull over, turn the car off, and restart, it was fine. Hesitant to start, seems it was something to do with a low oresssure fuel pump. Kia would not do a recall, instead, they send you a letter in the mail that says “if you are having these symptoms” take it to a dealer and they will check and fix for free if that was the issue. I’m sure there are a few more things that can/will go wrong but I do not have time to keep typing ,lol. Loved the car when I first got it, (sx turbo) but the closer it got to 100,00 miles it went straight downhill. I will never buy another Kia again!!
If you’re having trouble lining up/connecting the window clamps/bolt with the actual regulator read this comment!!! Seems like a lot of people are having trouble with this step and I’m not sure why every single video leaves this part out, but as you’re probably aware the window doesn’t just easily push down once you have the new regulator connected, therefore making it hard to reinsert the bolt that holds the window together with the regulator. Here’s how to fix: 1) Make sure your window glass is inserted and all the way up. I used a suction cup to hold the window in place, but you can probably get by with duct tape. 2) Make sure you’ve reconnected the actual power window motor to the new regulator. 3) Now this is the actual tricky part that took me hours to figure out. Reconnect ALL the paneling and wiring necessary so that you can actually plug in the main connector of the power window motor (white plug) to the actual door panel that has the window up/down buttons. 4) Once that is plugged in, power on the electrics of your car and test the up/down buttons. If you’ve reconnected everything correctly, you should now be able to lower/raise the window regulator clamps that hold the window in place. 5) Using the buttons, lower the clamps just enough so that the bolt’s hole (idk what to call it) lines up with the hole you’ll be sticking the bolt through. You’ll have to disconnect the power window plug from the door panel and remove it to see if you’ve lined it up correctly. This may take a few tries. 6) Once it’s lined up, disconnect the main connector of the power window motor from the door panel and set the panel aside. 7) Using your hands to hold the window in place, you can now remove the suction cups/duct tape to carefully lower it until it meets the clamp you’ll be bolting together. (Since you’ve already lowered it, you should be able to see the grooves the window slides into on the sides. Make sure the glass is inside of those grooves.) 8) Now that everything’s lined up, you can successfully insert the bolt. 9) You can now continue with reconnecting everything and you’re done. 10) Drink a beer and pat yourself on the back because you just did a $1000 repair by yourself If this helped, like this comment so others can see it. And also, fuck Kia!!! TLDR: You need to reconnect the power so you can lower the window grooves enough to where they line up with the holes you’ll be sticking the bolt through.
I'm in St Augustine Florida and I have now going to have to do all four Windows one at a time they have went out within the one year that we have bought our 2016 Kia optima
Wow sorry to hear that. It’s an awful design but I hope this video helps with the repair. Try a few different sources because dealer may not have it. Also it would be cheaper anywhere but the dealer.
@@rollcam321 you got that right I'm in Florida man where do you think the best place to order that from I'm trying to find I guess what just your local O'Reilly's or AutoZone or something
Yes shoot for them first. They usually have some type of warranty on them so just double check. I’ve repaired a few of these and they broke months later. The design overall was horrible for the window regulators.
I didnt learn anything, how do u get the panel off? Couldnt see what u were unscrewing & unplugging on the over panel, camera to far away, then it started going super fast ugh...
2016 Optima, bought new in 2017, had been on the back lot for months. I bought an extended warranty on the electronic parts. I live in Houston, Texas area. The windows on the passenger side front, and then the passenger side back wouldn't go up. I don't use them very often and I think that is one of the factors (not sure why it would be, maybe not spreading the lubrication?). The window problems each occured after someone tried to roll them down. Shortly after, they would not go up or down, and would slide slowly down about 2 inches when driving on bumpy roads (lots of them in Houston, potholes and seams aplenty). I could slide them back into place by hand (placing palms on the outside of the window and pushing up) but they dropped again when driving. Each was repaired at Firestone under the electronics warranty, 2 week wait for the parts to come in. I paid half, which was about $250. Now a 3rd window, driver side back, is suffering the same problem and the warranty has expired. I will repair it myself. Switch does not make a noise when I push it, could be motor out? Thanks for the video. Others show how to access the screws that hold the door panel on. So far (knock on wood!), have not had a problem with the front driver's side that I use at least once a day. I think that is why it is still working.
I was wrong about no noise coming from trying to roll the driver's side rear window down. I hear a motor sound from the back door when I operate the up/down switch. I also hear something that sounds like a cable running over the teeth of a gear. So, much be bad regulator.
0:58 can anyone help me. So I have a 2015 optima. Driver window went down and only up 1 inch. We changed the regulator and when going up it would get stuck in 2 places. Had to manually pull it up past those 2 points. So changed the buttons and the motor. It is still getting stuck going up. Any recommendations? TIA out of warranty
Hello. I'm experiencing a problem where the rear window is going down but only going up halfway? Do you think this has anything to do with the regulator?
Rear windows had this issue, found a suggestion somewhere: grab some electrical cleaner (or electrical contact cleaner) Spray the outside of the button, around the sides, front and back while actuating (I did this while it was all turned on) go heavy on the spray I used quite a bit before it cleared up and started working again.
Soo when you put it back in did you have to reset the window in anyway?? I recently swapped mine on a 2015 kia optima. The button turns the motor but the window doesnt move like in the video. But even after putting new one on still nothing?? Im lost on it.
It may be the actual switch that’s giving you the issue. Possibly broken button instead of window regulator? Either that or that regulator could be faulty… Also make sure the window isn’t jammed and installed level.
This is a big issue happening with kia optimas from 2016 (my year) through 2021 i think. My passenger window just had this happen and while searching I found a class action lawsuit. Kia refuses to fix it. instead they want you to go to the dealer and spend $450 for a fix. Im in Florida.
@@rollcam321 I havent opened the panel yet, but the dealer did and said the teeth on the gear had worn out. Thankfully they didnt charge me and just put the window up for me. Kia seems to be using cheap parts. I barely use the window that has an issue and reading online a lot of people say the same thing. Plus they say it will happen to the other windows as well. I finally paid the car off in Jan and now this.
@@nonya13 your right about the cheap parts. That why the overall price on Kia is lower than some of its competitors. But….. every car has its week points that eventually come to surface over time. Kia has cheap door handles, window regulators, and even the interior isn’t all that expensive.
Wow! I am so happy I found this. I am from Miami and this is exactly what I am assuming happened to my driver side window. Going to order the new part and fix this myself! Thank you for this video.
Same thing happened to mines. Literally one broke and then all 4 mind you I rarely put my windows down. I actually remember the last one breaking on its on…I was driving and it just fell down. All of my windows broke in less than a year. Just now fixing all of them. Bought the parts from eBay for 600 for all 4.
I'm having the same problem with my 2016 kia optima first it was the front diverside and the the rear driverside after that one and then other day the passenger rear went out the front passenger side still work I'm having trouble finding the window regulators kia say that they all are on back order and they want 250.00 each for them do anyone know where I can find the regulators I also tried the junk yard no luck there and kia said there is no warranty that will cover the window regulators
Wow. I’m sure the heat has something to do with it. With it being cold, then hot, then cold… then we have long periods of extreme heat. I’m sure is melting the lubricant from where it’s needed most. Without the lubricants parts start grinding, and from there issues happen. After so much time and talking with people ultimately I think that’s the main cause.
Excellent video! Thankyou so much:) My Sportage R same family has now a problem with the drivers side. I will take it into KIA and see what the problem is and then see how much it is going to cost. Did you have to remove the glass?
I went to KIA and they replaced the motor it didn't work, they replaced the switches it didn't work, they checked the regulator and also the fuses. But still the window didn't work.....They said I will need to go back and check again. This is stressful What do you think the problem is?
Yes I also have a 2016 Optima and one month after me having the car the back passenger driver side dropped a week later the passenger side on the passenger side of the car in the backdrop and needless to say the driver side window stopped and now my passenger side has stopped I was able to find the parts on eBay but Kia needs to do something with this issue Cape Coral Florida
Yep your in the southern state too. I’m in Florida. Such a common issue it should be a recall. I think it’s cost them too much because everyone has had this problem.
Hey ppl, go to "FIXING CARS" same title KIA windows wont go up. on youtube, he didnt take all that stuff off the door, he shows u how to get the panel off. He disconnected the motor and popped the new one right on. He didnt disconnected all those wires and such. Hey guy u need a new video.
Window regulator went out on drivers side. Having hardest time finding a part. DOES ANYBODY ELSE HAVE THE SX TURBO. WHEN I PAY THIS CAR OFF IM TRADING IT IN FAST N A HURRY! Fucking headlights $100 a piece..smh
I am living in Dallas, I have a 2016 ex optima , my back windows stopped working, then only yesterday the front left window stopped working. Frustrated Kia owner
See I’m pretty sure it’s the southern states that the heat is causing the grease to melt out. Causing friction on the metal cords that lift the window up and down.
Once the panel is off it’s elementary honestly, I would not recommend if you don’t have mechanical knowledge. The panel that the regulator is bolted too has all the screws around it which is viable and easy to remove. But you do have to just pay attention to where your window level is when removing the panel because it can drop. If you have any specific questions I’ll try and help the best I can
Generally that can be done but if it’s wore out there’s a great chance of it happening again. The worse part is, if that window drops it could shatter, or even worse… it could happen while your out on the road when your least expect it.
Hey 👋🏻 can you please tell me where you bought this part? Kia refuses to give me the part # and I’m not having luck finding it anywhere. Please I’ll appreciate you helping me with this.
At the time I purchased my window regulator assembly at the dealer. But…. Amazon and eBay always have options. Also check out your local junk yard if all else fails. Let me know what you find

TIA
out of warranty
In Massachusetts same problem with the rear passenger side regulator
Hello. I'm experiencing a problem where the rear window is going down but only going up halfway? Do you think this has anything to do with the regulator?
Rear windows had this issue, found a suggestion somewhere:
grab some electrical cleaner (or electrical contact cleaner)
Spray the outside of the button, around the sides, front and back while actuating (I did this while it was all turned on) go heavy on the spray I used quite a bit before it cleared up and started working again.
Brilliant idea. Thanks for sharing
Either that or that regulator could be faulty…
Also make sure the window isn’t jammed and installed level.
What would the cost be if done in a shop?
Possibly over 300 I’m sure
This is a big issue happening with kia optimas from 2016 (my year) through 2021 i think. My passenger window just had this happen and while searching I found a class action lawsuit. Kia refuses to fix it. instead they want you to go to the dealer and spend $450 for a fix. Im in Florida.
Yea that’s a rip off.
I swear the heat is causing the line to melt and cause friction on the wires.
Same problem in Texas. All 4 windows have gone out.
Wow all four.
I’m really starting to think it’s the best that’s causing this
The dealer told me it's a domino affect, once one goes out the other 3 follow. I'm going on my third
Wow! I am so happy I found this. I am from Miami and this is exactly what I am assuming happened to my driver side window. Going to order the new part and fix this myself! Thank you for this video.
For sure, glad I could help. Make sure you shop online for the part, you may find it cheaper.
I thought the regulator was in the door and I didn't see you remove that?
This same thing has happened to my parents Kia Optima 2016. All 4 windows and we live in Massachusetts.
I guess it’s a common issue no matter what state your in. How did you end up fixing the issue?
Did you go to dealer?
That’s the tough part finding them elsewhere. But…. Try junk yards. It’s not the best bet but depending on source it could be reliable.
Thanks 🔥🔥
Same issue, kia optima 2016, Miami FL
First back right, then back left, and today front passenger. All within 1 month.
Yes for sure have to remove the glass, but…. The dealership inflate everything, try and tackle this one your self.
I believe in you
@@rollcam321 I will check with KIA to access what the problem is, and then see how much they charge. If it is steep I might consider DIY. Thanks
I went to KIA and they replaced the motor it didn't work, they replaced the switches it didn't work, they checked the regulator and also the fuses. But still the window didn't work.....They said I will need to go back and check again.
This is stressful
What do you think the problem is?
Have you paid for all of this work to be done? If so I think they took advantage of you honestly.
Something does not sound right at all!!!!
No didn’t pay. They ordered the part it didn’t work so they sent it back .Just used up a lot of time
Kia had to replace all the regulators for my windows. It always happens at the worst possible time
So true man. Was it covered under warranty?
Yes I also have a 2016 Optima and one month after me having the car the back passenger driver side dropped a week later the passenger side on the passenger side of the car in the backdrop and needless to say the driver side window stopped and now my passenger side has stopped I was able to find the parts on eBay but Kia needs to do something with this issue Cape Coral Florida
Yep your in the southern state too. I’m in Florida.
Such a common issue it should be a recall.
I think it’s cost them too much because everyone has had this problem.
Where did you order the regulator?
I went directly to the dealership
Same problem with all windows and yes I am in south Florida
Yep, I figured. This should be a major recall
I had both back windows to go out.
Sorry to hear. Hope this video helps.
Are you going to fix yourself?
Same Problem ...Down South Florida. smh
I have a Kia Optima and have had all of my window regulators replaced. This is a Nightmare. Kia need to do a recall and do something better
video unavailable?
I have no idea why, was getting a lot of feedback from this video.
got the video back up, thanks for letting me know it was down.
Thanks very helpful video brother 👍
Awesome. Thank you for the feedback 🙏🏾
the video doesn `t work. my new window regulator does not fit either
Sorry I’m not sure why my video was now made unavailable. I’ll see if I can get get this fixed ASAP.
@@rollcam321 to fix the video go to the video editor and crop the video for 2 - 3 seconds
Finally got the video back up, nut sure what happened.... Thanks for your help. Super appreciate you
I live in Michigan and it just happens to me after a horrible heat wave
Front window I assume?
Arizona driver side window just fell down
Window regulator went out on drivers side. Having hardest time finding a part. DOES ANYBODY ELSE HAVE THE SX TURBO. WHEN I PAY THIS CAR OFF IM TRADING IT IN FAST N A HURRY! Fucking headlights $100 a piece..smh
New york I have to replace my daughters driver side front window regulator
I am living in Dallas, I have a 2016 ex optima , my back windows stopped working, then only yesterday the front left window stopped working. Frustrated Kia owner
See I’m pretty sure it’s the southern states that the heat is causing the grease to melt out.
Causing friction on the metal cords that lift the window up and down.
@@rollcam321 I think that makes sense, my car is outside all the time, the heat in the summer can’t be good for car, thanks for information
@@MsTOMorgan absolutely. Also, you ever noticed because we have higher temps threw them the north……
Our dashboards and plastics become super brittle
@@rollcam321 That’s for sure this car really needs to be under cover with the extreme temperatures here
Horrible!! how many bolts you take off??
Once the panel is off it’s elementary honestly, I would not recommend if you don’t have mechanical knowledge.
The panel that the regulator is bolted too has all the screws around it which is viable and easy to remove. But you do have to just pay attention to where your window level is when removing the panel because it can drop.
If you have any specific questions I’ll try and help the best I can
My just broke same thing I am from Florida .
All 4 windows have that problem in my wife's car
why not just stretch the cable around the white roller circle and lube it up ?
Generally that can be done but if it’s wore out there’s a great chance of it happening again.
The worse part is, if that window drops it could shatter, or even worse… it could happen while your out on the road when your least expect it.
@@rollcam321 Looks like this part could be redesigned to make the cables not slip off
Agreed, but techs are the brilliant ones… engineers make our lives so much more difficult lol
OMGGGG THAT MUSIC IS TERRORIZING MY EARS.
that music is ridiculous! wth is that? its very distracting! Seriously
Sorry lol I’ve learned now to cancel the silly music in the background or at least tone it down.
@@rollcam321 I called in and they refuse to order it for me. 😒
And eco place as well?
@@rollcam321 I appreciated you replaying! And thank you for your videos! I was able to change my car handles! ☺️
