I’m happy you like the game, but personally, I think it was a waste of potential.
I freaking love the graphics and the idea in general gave some interest and I do like some of the characters in this game but after playing it from start to finish it was a very underwhelming experience.
The major disappointing thing was not fully taking advantage of the monster aspect of the game with the werewolves, and I think vampires too. Most of the game is just you shooting people in shoot outs and killing people in stealth sections, and this is what you’re doing for like half of the game with the occasional werewolf thrown in to kill. There’s so much little werewolf action that it might as well not even be a game about werewolves honestly, and what makes it worse is, the human shoot outs are literally all the same it’s just taking cover, shooting back and killing everyone there to progress further, and sometimes you occasionally get a sniper or a guy wearing armor with a stupid explosive gun in some of the shoot outs but other than that, nothing else happens. it’s the same stuff over and over again, same thing with the stealth sections, It’s literally just going behind someone’s back and pressing the button at the right time to kill them and that’s it, nothing else changes, you are literally doing the same thing over and over again and I don’t know how that’s fun. Now we Get into the werewolf sections. As little as they’re are, there were some interesting cut scenes with them, where they were genuinely kind of creepy, but the gameplay afterwards with them is literally laughable. You can easily dodge them and shoot them down and kill them pretty fast and the best part is they do the same pattern over and over again and don’t change it up whatsoever, so you’re going to kill them pretty easily. and there you go that’s most of the werewolf encounters. just dodging and shooting the werewolf and killing them, the only time does this change is when you’re going against the two werewolf bosses, which plays out the same way for both of them. you just cut them a few times, you dodge their attacks and you play some mini button games to kill the werewolf and that’s it. That repetitive nature literally makes it really hard to wanna play it again honestly so I’m shocked that people actually enjoy that because from what I went through it, was pretty freaking boring and repetitive.
Now we get into the next problem with this game and that’s… TOO MANY CUT SCENES. I can’t tell you how many cut scenes are in this game, it’s atrocious. It might as well be a movie than a game. Listen, I’m not against cut scenes in video games. They are a great way to get some story in and to really inform the player about the world itself and its characters but when it becomes literally half of the game and it’s unskippable too, you might as well just watch a movie at that point because that’s literally what you’re doing most of the time when you’re playing this game, just watching a movie. It’s beyond me that anybody could just sit there, Watch cut scenes for a few hours and have occasional moments of gameplay, that is extremely boring and unnecessary time consuming. And it’s not even like the cut scenes are even that good, some of them are good but most of them are like whatever so it’s not even interesting to watch especially when dialogue Draggs on and on and you feel like you’re literally trapped in a prison until the cut scene finally ends, like seriously why would you wanna play a game that literally prioritizes cut scenes over gameplay. That’s genuinely boring and not even worth being a game.
The next thing that’s kind of frustrating is the slow pace of the game. The game takes a long time to get to the interesting parts, the first half of the game is literally just you pressing a few buttons, walking around and examining things and talking to people and the worst part is it’s all in a slow manner, which is extremely irritating and boring. I feel so limited because of it too, which makes me not want to play it and play something else.
Here’s a quick thing I’d like to add, sometimes I feel like the world is too empty and feels Souless, what I mean by that is, there are way to many times where there’s no one around or two little people around, some of the environments just looks so dull and uninteresting, I get it it’s supposed to be creepy, but sometimes the lighting makes it look so lifeless and unappealing. You can make lighting that is appealing and full of life and still have it be creepy and have atmosphere. But the good news is, some environments that do look pretty nice, but other than that, most of them feel kind of, well boring and lifeless. It almost makes the world feel small, which is never a good thing.
And there is really no replayability, the only reason why I could see anyone replaying this is because they needed some achievements to get a platinum, but other than that I cannot see why anybody would even bother coming back to this one for a second Playthru, like you’re literally going to do the same stuff again and you’re literally going to have to deal with the slow pace of the game again, and you’re literally gonna have to deal with the long cut scenes again, which is very time consuming and not even worth it because you could literally be playing a game that gives you more entertainment, and actually provides more gameplay than just cut scenes mostly. And it’s not like there’s multiple endings either with different cut scenes. It’s just the same stuff over and over again so you have no reason to even play it again even more than you did the first time.
And the last thing about this game that is generally frustrating is the ending, like it’s really unsatisfying and very confusing for me. The first thing that really irks me about the ending is the conclusion is very unsatisfying and feels very unfinished. Like, for example, we never get to confront that guy who literally framed us and tried to get us killed in prison, who is a werewolf or vampire by the way and we never find out what happened to that woman that the main character used to work with that was literally planning to capture him. We never get to see what happens to her at all or where she went because she literally just disappears at that point and we never see her again for the ending too. It genuinely feels like these two are supposed to play a bigger role, but the developers didn’t have time to implement them, and I wanna be real with you, I don’t know what was happening in the ending with the whole Brother thing and the whole he was my son thing, it was generally confusing. if I can’t tell what’s going on you in ending, you probably did something wrong with storytelling, especially when I read everything too and listen to every cut scene.
So honestly, I don’t think this game is a masterpiece at all. I just think it was a game with some big potential and some great ideas but it fell flat in the end. This is why I feel like you should never prioritize graphics and cut scenes over gameplay and actually good storytelling because it just makes things very messy. I just wanna make this clear, it’s not a bad game. It’s a mediocre game with a lot of problems. there’s way worse games out there. (cough, cough Killzone shadow fall.) and I’m saying this because I want to give my personal view on the game. I hope you all understand.

The inclusion of historical figures was cool, but the fact that they brought in a historical figure from India in the Rani of Jhansi blew my mind. My folks used to watch one of their serial TV shows about her, and it really does feel different when you see a part of your own culture and history brought in and made so badass, like, they don't do that in Indian media (alternative histories and bringing historical figures into the future), and if they did it wouldn't be as cool as she was depicted here. Tesla and the Marquis are two of my favorite characters, they've been given so much personality, and it lends so well to the realism of this world.

YES, I recently was going on a platinum spree and saw the Order 1886 sitting there, I remembered how controversial this game was when it first came out so I never really picked it up back then, but seeing how short and easy to platinum the game was, I decided to pick it up and play it. Loved it so much that I instantly started looking for similar games and hopped on to Hellblade and A Plage Tale. Still hoping one day we get Order 1887.

The thing looks like a prerendered CGI movie. The lighting effects, the lens effect simulation, the aspect ratio, the filters... A gorgeous game that deserves a sequel! Oh Jake you’re totally speaking my mind in this video. I agree this game was a little short but the visuals were beautiful, art direction was fantastic, the overall theme of the game was very cool, the characters were badass looking and I really enjoyed it anyway and wanted more. I’d really love to see Order 1889 powered by PS5, but I’m afraid Sony will not be willing to give it another chance because of so much bad online reactions back then. What a shame 😕

It looks great, the music and sound is amazing, characters are awesome, spot-on voice acting, impressive world and overall design and I wholeheartedly enjoyed the story. Great timing for this video to hit my feed Jake!
If ANY game was more worthy of a sequel a decade later its The Order 1886!
I bought the game day one in 2015 and loved it from start to finish. I got most of the trophies and despite it being an easy platinum I never got it until THIS WEEK! I finished The Finals platinum which took like 500 hours and was like hey im going to play a super short game and get my damn plat!
This game was even better the second time through. One littleeeee gem is the police commissioner saying "elementary" and being called "Doyle" as in Arthur Doyle the creator of Sherlock Holmes.
I loved this world, I didn't even mind the walking around, RAD did such an insane job with the fidelity. Fidelity usually crumbles after a few years but playing this in 2024 and it still holds up next to Last of Us part 2 etc
If this game were announced it would get a ton of fan fair because the only real problem was the length, the gameplay is take it or leave it imo, I personally liked how the bossfights played out and sure the gunfights are shooting galleries but this game got literally everything else right.

The Order 1886 has everything I love most: a cool, cinematic story; linear gameplay; interesting lore & characters; dark, eerie vibes; victorian+steampunk-ish aesthetics; werewolves & vampires; QTE (unpopular opinion but I love those).... it's like this game was made for me, really. The games which come closest in vibe are Bloodborne and Vampyr (both favorites of mine), but besides these I don't know of any similar games in terms of visuals/mood. I wish it got a sequel or more so badly - especially that the "ending" makes it clear that it's not the end of the story they wanted to tell. It's such a unique game and immediately became a huge favorite of mine!!! So good to see there are other people who appreciate this fantastic game & spread the word about its true value! 🙏 Thank you for this! Awesome video!

I didn’t hear anything bad about it so I went in unbiased and just genuinely curious and WOW did they deliver. I’ll admit the game was a bit short and the story wasn’t as cohesive as I would’ve preferred but that’s nothing they wouldn’t be able to improve upon in the next game! This game isn’t flawless, but it really does a lot of things well. The visuals, the atmosphere, the music, the characters and voice actors… it all adds to an awesome experience. And the details! The way your character walking down stairs looks so authentic. The fact that he makes a short inhale before jumping a fence, and let it out after he has landed. The smooth way in which you make use of the objects around you when taking down an enemy by hand; pushing them over a nearby crate or dunking their head against a wall.
This game ends leaving so much potential on the table. Let us know when you’re done with that fan fiction, cause we need more of this game. ;)

I absolutely adore this game and I stan it still to this day. The concept is top notch and at the time, cinematic experiences were still foreign. I was blown away at how the game would seamlessly flow between game play an cinematics, considering it was (to the best of my recollection) slated to be a launch title. This game filled that Van Helsing itch that's hard to scratch now a days. Seeing the game moved to The Great War would be interesting, but I love a good Victorian England setting. If a sequel ever came to be, I'd be first in line for it.
