This is brilliant. Believe it or not, I've been on the look out for the same budget friendly solution. Thanks to you - Order placed!
Cheers my friend!
I actually need a way to store my spare wheels and tires. Thanks again for the awesome find!
Amazing find ... you were probably like “I can’t believe this”. I originally thought you might put casters on one of your wooden pallets but this is way better.
I also bought the MaxxHaul tire dolly last week for one of my winter sets as I searched for something easily stackable and mobile; while searching for alternatives with slightly higher capacity, I stumbled across your video today. While I agree with most of what you said about the wall mount style of tire storage, I can attest to the fact that I've had a TireRack stud mounted wall tire rack on my wall for at least 5 years with no problem or signs of wall fatigue on the wall that it's mounted to. I store my 305/40R-18 Nitto DRs with slightly smaller front wheel/tire set from my Mustang on that wall during winter months (they're pretty heavy) and also use it when I switch back to summers to store my winter wheel/tire set seasonally. I have 4+ sets of wheels/tires that I seasonally store in my small two-car garage for all my vehicles and need multiple solutions for this. But for now, the MaxxHaul has worked out for my floor storage needs. I've read mostly good reviews, but also some bad ones by people claiming broken castors after short periods of use. So, we'll see, I guess.
Really? 2x4 is junk and not strong? I wonder what the studs that hold up your garage and house are made of :D
😂 I got 5 pegs for my mud tires on the wall with 4 1/2 inch screws in the studs. Mind that it goes through sheet rock too. My mud tires weigh about 75 lbs each so yea.
I struggled with this same problem - thanks man really! Smashing the like! Im hardly cheap and love Griots but found that price a bit tough to swallow. Just ordered - its 50 bucks now but that isnt bad compared to any other solution - I couldn't build it out of 2/4's and harbor freight wheels for less.
This is precisely what I have been looking for... also saw the Griots offering and thought that the price seemed out of what. Also had all the concerns you mentioned about over-head storage. Great find and thanks for doing the leg work AND sharing it for the rest of us!
thats for finding it, these are awesome and for the money cant be beat. grab some now they sell out very fast off Amazon thanks to my video
Found this same item at Canadian Tire for 29.99 each just before Christmas 2017. Bought two. Today they're selling for 59.99 each. These dollies are great. Thank you for the great review!
Fantino Violi awesome. yeah once they realize we find out about the deal they jack the prices up, even at $60 its still a bargain.
After your video, ordered these on the spot! They where just like u said! Got them in 3 days! Outstanding purchase! Great informational video!
yeah its a super bargain too, i think Amazon sold out of the entire inventory because of my video.
Thats kinda cool! Perfect for a clean and functional garage ;)
Disagree about 2x4's not being strong enough for tires. I think where those overhead tire racks fail is people always put big honkin lag bolts into them which compromizes the 2x4..
Ideal fastner would probably be a 3 1/4 Deck screw.. That will have a sheer force of about 80lbs per screw so.... More then enough for tires
Good find. If side walls are soft like in a low rated/ply tire, better to rotate the order of the tires if storing long term...bottom tire has more pressure on side walls vs the other 3 and esp. the one sitting on top.
Thank you very much for your video! Was going to pull the trigger on the tire rack system for $300. I did see this on Amazon, but was really concerned about quality for $37 (now). Once you showed the underside of the dollie I was SOLD! Just like you i believe in accessibility and my whole garage is on wheels. Just ordered 2 and saved over $200! Thanks again! 👊
These dolly's are awesome and a bargain I also have 2 of them, can not beat the value and quality and the lug nut compartment is even cooler.
Thanks for the review just bought one for $37 bucks.👍👍
4 min in to the video I bought 2,exactly what I need,thanks!
good job these are awesome i have 2 also
I like the idea, but I also wouldn’t put the the wall mounted option behind me either. Frees up floor space and it’s pretty safe as long as you mount them correctly. Been using them for a few years now.
Ordered mine. Thanks For Sharing! Friggin Perfect. Big Smiles...
good move these are so worth having and total bargain
Great find, great video thanks!!!!
I just ordered 2 of these for 8 winter wheels and tires. I tried a rolling rack which seemed to be the best on Amazon, mentioned on this video. Looked very sturdy, easily assembled. After loading tires, when I first tried to move it, a wheel came off, the rack collapsed. Looked like the threads inside the post where the wheels attached stripped. These make sense.
Thanks Man!! Great solution, ordered!!!
Enjoy!
Works nice for a large garage.
Cool! I just need this to store a set of tires.
This is just god damn brilliant
I want tires off the ground. And away from any garage floor space. This is basically the same thing as stacking them at a corner but now you can move them out of the way for a solid second before you put them back lol build a Sturdy tire rack up and install it out of sight. 2x4 studs can hold up your garage roof. I’m sure 4 wheels will be fine if rack is properly built
I think you are underestimating the strength of wall mounts. Your loaded upper kitchen cabinets are also hanging from 2x4's and they arent falling down
I highly doubt any kitchens have cabinets holding hundreds of pounds of dishes. Some wheels and tires alone can weigh upwards of 140lbs per assembly x4 = 560.lbs and if studs are weak or drilled offset on edge it can be dangerous to hang this weight above head for family kids pets.
Rubbermaid trash can dollies, or barrel dollies, work great for 19" and smaller wheels, and are $30-$60ea if these are hard to find cheap.
I just went to lowes and bought one for my wifes snow tires. $40 after tax.
How did you paint the bottom of your garage?
Is it cement?
Did you have to fill the holes with something before painting?
What paint did you use?
For ~1/2 that money ($17.99), you can get a wooden, 30x19", 1000-lb Harbor Freight dolly. No lug nut cubby (which I don't need) and no locking wheel, but you can always shove a Dollar Tree door stop under one wheel to lock it in place. When you make your HF run, buy three of these. You'll be glad you did.
For my winter wheel set (GMC Canyon), I'm building a shelf behind the roll-up track in my garage. There's 16" of unused space back there. A 12' 2x12 and four brackets, each pair rated for 300 lbs, will hold all four 77-lb sets (almost double the needed capacity) in a nice neat row that's out of the way. It'll look good as well. Sure, I might have to ask a neighbor for help getting them up there, but that's just twice each year It's great to have good neighbors.
Nice option. Appreciate the video.
thanks i just ordered a second one tonight just to have. you can link two of these together for multiple wheel and tire sets
Watching this video gave me great idea. The large Brut trashcans have a wheel kits you can buy to move your trash can around. You could probably use those as well.
G B i have two of those tandem dolly for my cans there very expensive this dolly is a far better deal
@@autofanaticcars I just seen them but didn't look at the price for those garbage can wheel kits. Good to know. I'll check out the one in your video.
I store my tires without a rim and have been laying them flat on each other and I read its not good to do but I agree the tire rack is more than I can afford. Any other ideas?
guys grab this ASAP because it is listed in the wrong category on Amazon, not automotive i actually found it by mistake.
Great video, thanks :) Is stacking tires with rims stresses side wall or anything ?
perfectly fine
I looked at this dolley but for my mud tires, it would be over it's weight limit by about 75 pounds. Each of my mud tires is 75 lbs plus a full size spare mud tire. I trust 2x4 studs as long as they are anchored well, and in decent condition.
It is now 2021 and they go for $55 on amazon, still cheap compared to other options though!
exactly best value anywhere I love the 3 that i have
Whats this product called at canadian tire? Trying to find online
Thank you just ordered one. I 👍🏼
Hope you enjoy it! Best deal out there for wheels and tires I have three of these myself
Thank you.
Great video man
rustybones3115 thanks fyi amazon has this secret in the wrong category 😀 grab it before they realize
Yea I'm going to check on it., Thank u
Thanks
I was thinking of making a mobile rack with 3/4 or 1” black or galvanized pipe & casters or just a dolly w 3/4 plywood & casters.
if your handy you easily can make your own rig for fun, this for me was so cheap it made the most sense. I have 2 of these dollies for all my wheels and tires and there great.
Do you need to cover the tires with a plastic bag?
I just used a regular dolly and a piece of scrap wood. But this is nicer to look at and fits better in a garage setting.
Des420 yeah i thought about using wood etc but once i got this my needs were solved perfectly, the lugnut compartment makes it even better
I don't need this but I still want one. This is a better overall solution, and only a little more expensive anyway. The extra cost is worth it because you don't have to worry about the wood tipping, or losing the sweet ass ziplock baggie full of lugs.
Des420 exactly thats why i didnt bother making one i was determined to find this and miraculously i did on accident, the lug bin, handles and tie down locations make this a winner, mark my words once Amazon realizes they listed it wrong the price will double or triple. since i bought mine it went up $2 in price.
its now exclusively for Amazon prime members but its 36 bucks. amazing find!
you couldn't buy the casters alone for $36 these things are a steal i have3 of them myself for tires and extra rims. glad you found this video
Any suggestions on how to store wheels without tires mounted? I'm afraid if I tried to use this for that it would scratch them up
4 boxes = problem solved
Nice video. 👍
What is the black and orange shelf system to the right of your stairs?
Craig Bush Wurth fastener drawers i have thousands of sae and metric hardware on hand for all the cars i build
Thanks bro. 👊
Knew u from up in our region before you said NY just by way you said widdout 😂
#/4 plywood and 4 casters from Harbor freight, done
Where to order 33 inch tall tires on 20 inch rim
Just bought one....
This is not for storage for the season but to use in tires dealers shop for transportation
too bad there wasnt a center eyehook to put a tie down up through the middle to strap them securely to the platform rather than using friction/gravity to keep them aligned while stacked.
can easily drill a hole and do that
You're ok without securing the tires ? Seems like a 90lb tire (as u say) 4 feet high on wheels can be an accident waiting to happen . Would be nice to have a metal shaft secured to platform .
Robert never an issue i move mine several times each day you just need to move it carefully you can use ratchet tie down straps easily if you liked. Best $36 youll ever spend
But you know there is too much pressure of weight on bottom tires and there is strong chance of bends of tires.
how long can you storge tires like that?
as long as you desire
If I leave them in that position for 6 years without a rim, should the tires still be ok?
why would you store them so long tires after 7 years are not safe in most US states for safety inspection FYI
First
GREAT VIDEO....It's now 3/5/22 and the Price is $55 on Amazon. Still a Bargain.
yeah i need to order another one now before they jack prices up
Up
Not big enough for OEM sized (i.e. Ram/f-150) to use. Tires are too wide. Weight limit is 300lbs. Four truck tires are roughly that. Only good for car tires.
Dude it’s expensive now ☹️
These tires are HUGE....sportscar tires I guess
Shelby GT350
That's awesome dolly but real problem is how easy you can stack them up... heavy and break your back. L
lol why are you talking about 2/4 not being strong, they can easily hold tires wtf XD 2/4 are strong as hell
guess you never saw a 2X4 that comes from China or South America with all the splits and warps in them that all the USA home improvement sources sell.
humm... are you still wondering if the cost of products go up ? apparently 35$ in 2017. 4 years later 85$...
welcome to hyper inflation created by BIDEN on everything right now its disgusting.
Fkn hell it's $273 in amazon australia
Dated video. They are at $60 price point.
Still cheap
@autofanaticcars Actually, the price jumped within a week. I saw ur great idea last week and the price was $35; I revisited it this morning, and there it was--$60. Ur right. $60 to reclaim ur space is CHEAP. The $25 jump upset me a bit. Good idea nonetheless
You know why this happened when my video generates a lot of new sales comi Amazon jacks prices up based on their crooked algorithm its so unethical how they operate I notice this for years after tracking leads off my videos. Once sales stop the old price comes back shortly after
this isn't a good solution, it's not recommended for tyres to sit on top of eachother for long term storage
Pretty paranoia how often you think you,ll kill yourself in your garage, don’t you think so?
