  • Hey everyone! In today's video I'm going to show you how to make homemade laundry detergent. It costs around $35 and lasts for a whole year!! It's so easy to make too! Let's do this!
    Homemade Laundry Detergent:
    3 (5 oz.) bars Fels-Naptha laundry bar
13 cups (110 oz.) box of Oxi clean stain remover
1 (76 oz.) box of Borax
    2 cups baking soda
1 (55 oz.) box Washing Soda
    OPTIONAL:
1-2 bottles Purex Crystals in wash fragrance (in your scent of choice) I love the Lavender scent
Break down bars of Fels-Naptha. Pieces need to be small enough to dissolve in the washing machine. Grate the bars then put in the food processor or blender until it resembles sand-like texture. Combine all the ingredients in a garbage bag. Tie the bag, then place into another garbage bag and tie tight. Mix, mix, mix!!
Transfer to a bucket or glass 2 gallon jar.
HOW MUCH TO USE: Regular load=2 TBSP.
    Large load=2 1/2 TBSP.
    Small load=1 1/2 TBSP.
Pour right into the washer, not the dispenser. Safe for HE washers!

You need to have a bar soap to add. If its to difficult to find the Felds Naptha bars, as I did, you can use *regular Ivory bars, Linda bars by Aurora, Sunlight detergent bars, plus you'll find lots of options online. You can find a beautiful jar at a second hand store. I found a 1/2 gallon antique green glass pickle jar at a yard sale for $5, and I love it! It looks great, and keeps the laundry detergent dry or from clumping. I made a double batch of this during Covid..and am still using it!

Absolutely love this option! I have sensitive skin and using this has made my life easier. Most beautiful scent I have ever smelled and it lasts soooo long. Have been struggling with these in store brands because nothing keeps the smell. I also noticed stains that were on my sons clothes from months/ week prior came out within one wash! I've had it for about a month and still a big jar full.

Heavy and extra dirty like jeans/work close about 1/4 cup. Lighter fabric about 1/8 cup. It really doesn't take much. We are so used to using amounts on commercial laundry boxes. I had a washer repair tell me years ago not to use as much as box said. I said why do say to use that much...he said to sell washing powder..lol. I make a batch of my powder about once a year for two people.

I do not use anything else and clothes have a light fresh smell. I wash in cold water. I store my big batch of mixture in a tin can that originally was a can containing popcorn from a Christmas gift. I fill a plastic container with cleaning mix from the tin to keep in laundry area. I saved a plastic cup from a powdered drink mix and keep in the container to measure mix. Been using this mix for about 3 years. The Zote soap has a light scent.

I absolutely love anything that is DIY and recyclable as well as a way to save on money and time. 😍😃😍😃
But this DIY home laundry dry detergent is not one of them.
I tried this for 6 months with two different types of laundry bar soaps.🤔😯
My daughter was quite allergic to the bars of laundry soaps. 😢
Also this dry laundry recipe did not fully dissolve in my washing machine leaving clumps of it on my clothing.
And made my clothing feel and smell badly. 😠😯
Also my machine kept on breaking down did not know why it was doing that during the time I was using this type of laundry detergent.
I soon found out that because it was not fully dissolving it was clogging everything even though I was using some white vinegar as a fabric softener .
I soon found out that these dry ingredients are used to strip your laundry and should not be used to wash your laundry each and every day.
They strip the color from your clothing after will.😮
It causes the elastic bands in your clothing to degrade after a will.😫
It causes the band around your machines barrel to degrad which causes your washing machine not to spin out the water .
Also too much vinegar placed in your washing machine can cause damage as well.
All of these ingredients are not good for your washing machine.
It is cheaper and easier to buy a name brand laundry detergent.😍
1 tablespoon for small loads and 2 tablespoon for bigger loads of laundry only.
You can still use white vinegar with some pure essential oil as your fabric softener but only two tablespoons to 4 tablespoons only.
Not a cup of white vinegar pur load.
White vinegar strips the detergent out of your clothing but it also strips your machine and by stripping too much of your machine can cause damage.
Also never use store-bought fabric softener or fabric beads or fabric softener sheets they have a lot of harmful chemicals which builds up in your machine as well as on your clothing and is the many times it is the cause of your washing machine and dryer breaking.😮😢
Look up stripping your clothing from build up detergent and you will see the same ingredients that is shown in this DIY laundry detergent is the same ingredient.
That makes no sense that the same ingredients is for stripping your laundry detergent from your clothing as well as use it as regular laundry detergent.

So, basically, you failed to use warm/hot water during your wash, and you don't ever use your tub clean cycle to maintain your washing machine. There are countless DIY laundry detergent recipes. This one seems quite potent, but you may benefit from a milder, cold-water-appropriate liquid recipe. Many of these homemade concoctions may be better used in the soak cycle first, then proceed to wash, extra rinse…for best results.

Use a spray bottle to spray onto your wet clothes in the dryer, then dry them for pennies, making them static free.
