I despised the ID4 when I tested it. those buttons were horrible on the wheel, and it felt cheap inside. the MG4 does a little bit... but it IS cheap. the ID4 isn't.
My MG Trophy arrived this week and your review is spot on - well done. The issues with the info screen aren't as bad as reviewers seem to think because the steering wheel controls can be set up to do all those things you wanted.
Fab Review Abi 👏🏻 I have driven the 4 too and it really surprised me. You're spot on with its drawbacks, some things are on the cheaper side but for the styling, range, way it drives and the equipment it comes with its a proper bargain.
MG will be expanding to Finland very soon. The initial range in Finland is expected to make up of the MG4, MG5, MG Marvel R and MG ZS EV. The next countries that could get MG may be Poland and or Greece, but as you know, I am quite desperate for an MG launch in Romania.
I have taken delivery of the MG4 trophy on Friday and can confirm that the car now has a rear wiper, centre head rest on the back seat, bigger wheels, grab handles above the doors with the exception of the drivers seat and one pedal drive mode. The infotainment system software has a couple of quirks the most annoying is the Bluetooth keeps forgetting the paired phone and often asks for me to re-pair the phone and it doesn't remember the settings for instance the driving mode i like to use the eco setting but when i get out of the car and lock it when i come to use it the drive mode defaults to the 'Normal' setting. but other than that the car is absolutely fantastic to drive and with my careful driving i am getting 4.7 miles per Kwh. The main struggle i am having at the moment is trying to get on an EV tariff with my energy supplier (Octopus) which means i am having to pay 30p per Kwh to charge my car 😢
Great review. As you say, the very best thing about the MG4 is the way it drives. Take it on a back road and it puts a smile on your face. The XPower version with 429hp is coming soon and is just £36.5k, now that will put your licence at risk
Pretty cool even though I'm not a fan of EVs...your review kinda makes me want one and wish I lived in the UK instead of America 😂❤ I'd like to add I love that white pleated skirt and trainers you're wearing. Very upmarket yet no doubt comfortable I wish American women knew how to dress like this

Why isn't blind spot detection on all trims? Saw yet another near miss on the motorway this morning when someone crossed two lanes and didn't notice a car coming up on the inside.
Hi, that model doesn't look like the latest 2023 model, with rear wiper , middle seat rear head rest, grab rail in back and new sensor in front for one pedal braking to a stop.
Normal you have a laggy screen, you tested one of the first models that were made in 2022 :) So try one of the latest with the R33 or R40 software. Dont know why you are testing an old model (mid-2022) and we are half 2023...
@@SHETALKSCARS it's improved in many ways. they now have rear wipers, rear middle headrest. full one pedal driving to a stop. have grab handles and the software was improved. it also removed the camera above the steering wheel which never worked properly.
Definitely has some flaws, but for the money it looks amazing. Can't find another rear wheel EV with this much power (or tech) for anywhere near this money. The facelifted version has middle headrest (was badly needed imo as I carry 3 in the back) rear wiper and full one pedal braking to a stop now.
At long last a reviewer who has actually mentioned that this car has no central rear headrest! I have watched so many reviews on this car and not once has this important safety item been mentioned, I have asked several times on the reviewer’s comments about it and been completely ignored. Thank you Abi for talking about this fact, great review 🙂
The MG4 is getting a centre head rest in the refresh. If you order one now you'll probably get that, and a rear wiper and 18" wheels, but no black roof
Why are EVs always placed apart? Does it matter that this is an EV? Personally, I'd say that this is probably the best car at its price point, no matter the motive force, especially when national/local incentives are included. In Spain (where I live) the base model sells at just over €20K. What other car, of any motive system, can compete at that price? Dacia Sanders anybody?
Hmmmm lucky you then Brian. Good for other people to know. I have very sensitive hearing so I hear everything - I’m like a bat. 😂 Glad to hear you’re enjoying your Mg4
I suspect that it tries to kill you because you've become lazy in your driving habits. I recently had an MG hire car (can't even remember which model, it wasn't a BEV) and I found the lane assist intrusive, but not too bad. There again, I'm really quite anal about using my indicators everywhere. I know that not to be the case for something like 90+% of drivers. Your comment is certainly not uncommon. But there again, something like 90% of drivers barely use their indicators. Maybe the advent of lane maintenance systems might encourage drivers to think a bit more about their use of indicators. WTF am I kidding? We'll keep on getting complaints ad nauseam about Lane Keep Assist etc., because it's much easier to blame intrusive electronics than our own sloppy driving styles.
