I busted out laughing at 2am when I saw that 🤣

Good call, chief 👍🏻
Thank you

This is why I have stopped being a Day 1 purchaser of PC games. Denuvo is known to hurt performance. Denuvo/Irdev lies about performance issues, claiming that they are "passionate gamers" that won't sell a product that could make something defective without providing evidence to support their claims.
Yep, and yet you got losers who’ll defend Denuvo like the idiots they are.
Which is hilarious, because Doom Eternal proved that Denuvo causes CONSIDERABLE performance issues, as the second they removed it due to backlash, the game ran at a smooth, frame-dropless 1080p on a GTX 1060. They can claim all they want that it doesnt affect performance, but that's bullshit posturing as there's more evidence it shits on frame timing than exists evidence of it not.
@IrisCorven It's money laundering

@2:26:10 Is there a reason a space station (and specifically, a penal space station) needs to have a giant spinning meat tenderizer in the middle of a room? I see logs near it, is it for removing bark? That just raises even more questions! Why are there logs and roughly hewn trees on a space station!?

I hope he finishes the game :/ I actually enjoyed watching this and his commentary. I certainly wouldn't buy or play it, but I can live vicariously through Charlie at least
Denouvo isn't actually the main issue shockingly. It's a combination of 2 main things, and Denouvo.
1. The game is constantly, at all times, uploading data to krafton. It's in the user agreement. This tanks performance. If you unplug your internet from your PC, the game runs substantially better.
.
2. It's in UE4. Which is garbage. The way it compiles shaders just murders performance. Even games that pre compile still run like shit because they're in UE4. It's a terrible engine for triple A games.
3. Yes Denouvo.
There are a lot of games that run well made in UE4 even fast paced games like Tekken 7 but you must be right on the money with the data uploading thing. Ubisoft games do that a lot and it tanks framerate at set intervals everytime.
Denuvo is crazy stupid.
@@marcusshane fighting games aren't visually complex enough to have these kinds of issues. Expansive, high fidelity, more open games tend to have these issues. UE is good at handling games with a tight scopes and simpler graphics, but once you try to expand that games scope, UE falls apart .
@@shotwell25 True. I was talking about the pacing of the game since stuttering can be real bad if the game is fast paced but yeah the more open the world, the more it slugs.
big companies love denuvo on their game
@@marcusshane The last time I saw a Ubisoft open world really chug was maybe Origins and Odyssey's cities but those games performance could also partially be blamed on the API's that they used.
Both of them ran intensive parallelized workloads that butchered older 2-6 core CPUs and had to brute force the API overhead that came along with DX11.
Man I was soo excited for this game. I wish they would have just utilized guns more or obviously just not used that dodge combat system.
That's what makes it stale in my opinion. It practically forces every encounter to be the same. If they had implemented dynamic mutations, or just randomized it would be rad too.
Then it would just be dead space reskinned, if I wanted to play dead space I would have waited for the remake or play the original. So this game is a bit of fresh air, especially with the dodge mechanic, not too many games have that

It is. I am not a fan of the gameplay though. I have been waiting SO long for this game and I WANT to love it... But I just don't. It's a bummer.
This would have been a great movie
I would’ve been a great video game too if it didnt suck
The more you use your guns and the more guns you have the more ammo the game gives you. I used melee like 10% of the time and I still have more ammo than I know what to do with. Charlie playing on hard mode going melee 90% of the time lol
Exactly, the guns are there to make the gameplay easier, I accidentally alerted a huge group of those blind zombies and the only reason I survived was because of the Riot gun.
have you tried uninstalling and requested a refund
This game proves that dead space 3 flop wasn't an accident and they learned nothing from their mistakes and the game industry right now. This game is so hard to be something it's not instead of going with why people enjoy dead space 1 and 2. Melee focus and quick time dodging really is a turn off and I am a souls and souls like fan boy. I see potential which sucks.
Hurts our pockets too
Kinda can't wait to see him reach this final 3rd of the game. It's about 2-3 more hours from here and it's absolutely miserably bad. What little enjoyment I felt with this game before it was replaced with disappointment and annoyance and that sinking feeling that I'd truly wasted $70 and 9 hours of my life that I'd never get back. I wanted to love this game from the day I'd heard about it and who was behind it, too. Such a shame. Good luck to Charlie on the rest of this bumpy ride.
Your words are meaningless copy pasta if you don’t give examples of why it’s bad. I watched a long play and thought it was pretty good for a first IP
Yea watched the rest last night, it was so so so painful for him and the whole chat.
@@superspice5659 how are they meaningless? You rly expect him to give examples to a random person on the internet, even tho you can just watch the video and see for yourself? Get a grip.
@@superspice5659 I streamed the entire game, beat it in 9.5 hours and was part of the first 0.78% of Xbox players to do so. So I think I have a clue - but sure, lets give reasons. There are only two bosses, which is perfectly fine for a shorter game, but one of those bosses gets reused four different times. First time was pretty good, but then it appeared again in a more cramped space and with an occasional zombie to help it. The problem with the combat of the game is that dodging only really functions in one on one combat - when multiple enemies are there, it kinda breaks down. Where it's an actual problem is in the boss fight where the boss can just kill you in one hit. I played on Medium so I don't know if it kills in one hit on Easy, too. But since it will attack at the same time as the little guys, if you happen to dodge their attack and not the boss, the boss kills you and makes you start over. Third time fighting it is in a tiny and cramped server room, so you're basically just holding the stick to one side and shooting it after the automatic dodge so aside from being stuck in a corner the entire fight with the camera bugging out, it was doable. Then the forth time is in a big room with another occasional enemy and an occasional exploder. Got caught in that crap dodge mechanic when the boss attacked at the same time as the little guy so I had to retry it once. Final boss is two phases. One where you literally just sit there and dodge upwards of 6 attacks at a time, then you melee and trick shot. You rinse and repeat that about five times, likely seeing the same knockback animation multiple times, then phase two happens. He only has two attacks, a ranged and a melee, and of course the melee kills in one hit. You blast his shield, then shoot his face. You can literally just strafe run the entire fight and he'll never hit you because of auto dodge, but every other time he brings back his face shield, four exploders also show up and pester you so you have to run around taking them out before dealing with the boss. It was either frustratingly unfun or boring, no in between.
Next, lets talk about the combat as it pertains to the rest of the game since the enemy variety is basically spit. There's zombie, armor zombie, fat zombie, zombie that spits, zombie that can't see, the mutations, and sneaky zombie. Sneaky was the best one because it could crawl on walls and turn invisible sometimes, but all of them, the entire list, all just revert to basic dodge melee, melee back and trick shot. They're all dealt with the same exact way in the end. Head Egg only does one thing, grab you and make you press Y over and over. Never once got killed by it, but they sure threw plenty of them into the game lest you forget they even exist. No variation in the dozen times they appear, either. Same with the larva. They jump out of lockers and boxes, and they do it like 30 times through the game, which again, is a very short game, so you'll see it *a lot*. And again, there's no variation in it. It's the same thing every time. It was mildly surprising the first time, but 29 additional times? Not really.
What about the story? With several veterans from the team that made Dead Space originally, I was excited to see what they came up with. I mean, an alien artifact to be studied that passively morphed people into monsters that would eventually all be amassed into a living moon? Wild stuff. But this? We found a parasite, killed it, took larva from inside it and found out they can turn a person into a murderous zombie... So a cult of rich elites decided to fuck over a colony to see what would happen and subsequently build a prison to experiment with it because that murderous braindead zombie, in the eyes of rich elite cultists, was the peak of human evolution and thus advance out goals of deep space travel and colonization. And despite secret rooms as early as the first 3rd of the game essentially revealing that, it's revealed in the end in a way that's meant to be so shocking and mind blowing, but it's not. It's more silly than anything. Then of course they cop-out of the semi-dramatic redemption plot at the end to set up the DLC that'll come next year.
This wasn't a good game. It was gorgeous to look at, there's ZERO denying that, but reusing the same boss 4 times in less than three hours is ass. The combat literally never evolves and neither do the enemies. They seem different on the surface, but they all fight the same exact way in the end. It's just boring. And with big free features being added like NG+ in February, I can't help but wonder if they only released it now because they wanted to beat the remake of their OG design rather than make a genuinely great experience. And to each their own, but coming hot off the heels of GoW:R? There's no fucking way.
@@the_gasx6622 Lol, and yet I really explained it to him in full detail anyways. People will dismiss literally any truth if they simply don't wish to hear it because that's easier than acknowledging a game is far from perfect.

Denuvo doesn't _necessarily_ cause performance issues. Denuvo does absolutely nothing automatically. It's just a library added to a game and the game code must explicitly call it. So the programmers (or more likely the executives) determine how badly Denuvo tanks performance.
Basically, every time you call Denuvo, it reshuffles the game encryption in RAM. If you do this, say, once every few minutes during load screens, you get pretty good security with minimal performance impact. If you do it... I dunno... several times a second, you get a placebo improvement to security and the game gets wood-chipped.
The programmers would probably know you don't need to call Denuvo _that_ often, so I'm sure it's the executives or investors who ignorantly demand going ham on the Denuvo calls.
The whole "dodge-dodge-hit" thing becomes so repetative....Why arent the developers of today realizing that you can expand the combat JUST A BIT to make it more enjoyable?
One word: lazy
One compound word: shareholders.
@@mr.nazareth4501 Yeah because this combat system and overall gameplay truly impressed the shareholders.
You said “doge dodge hit” and all I could think of was dark souls lol
@ConfusedZebra Dark Souls gives you a lot more options than that lol. You can dodge, block, reposition with walking or running, parry, or tank it. And you can swing a lot more in dark souls without being brutally punished for it. If the enemy isn't attacking, you should be. Which is not true of this game where if you attack without dodging first, the enemy is likely to smack you through your swing.
And don't forget the absolute BS of that stretch Armstrong smack through the railing.

Denuvo is trash but it the unreal engine that is tanking the game with insane shader compilation stutter, literally every tech breakdown has come to that conclusion.
I know many people are blaming for Denuvo for the stutters, but it is not caused by that it is caused by something known as shader compilation stutter which is very common in modern pc games. it's a plague on pc. most if not all unreal engine games suffer from this problem to an extent. I really hope there is a systematic solution to this problem.
Edit: just to be clear I don’t like denuvo either
The stutter is only reportedly occurring on the pc release, just as well a concurrent release (marvel midnight sun) has the exact same issue. So yes. It IS denuvos fault
If that encrypted denuvo VM didn't need constant interaction with the UE4-engine those shaders & more could've been handled on-the-fly without either crashing or slowing the game down to a constant crawl (which also still happens even after compilation and the latest patch btw)
and without devs needing double to triple overtime shifts to fix so many issues on release.. that "protection fee" should've gone to QA instead.
@@interlace84 please watch the digital foundry video
@@llooyydd1997 to some extent but lets not pretend that unreal engine and many other dx12 engines don't have inefficient and intrusive ways of handling shader caching.

Stuttering only happens when something new is presented to the game. Replay the game the second time and you’ll have no stutters at all. Digital foundry played on a 4090 with an i9 12k CPU and they had the same issues. Look up shader compilation stutters. Not a setting issue at all.
Nahhhhh, this man really said “just play the game twice to fix the stuttering”😂😭
Legit root cause of the DX12/Raytracing issues-- the shadows. Just turning those off will at the very least keep those UE4 DXGI "DEVICE HUNG" crashes from happening with more stable framerates (though vram spikes causing
Damn.. the combat really took a nose dive all because of a really weird dodge mechanic. It would've been infinitely better with a typical dedicated dodge button. Without it you have no mobility, if you get cornered by a group you can't roll out (assuming the telekinesis is drained). You can't close and make distance, and if something is behind you you either get sucker punched or the camera whips around when you're not expecting it. Can't use the dodge on projectiles, those long necked head traps, or the worms (the ones in lockers/boxes). You can block the first one (not robot bullets), but that deals chip damage as opposed to just dodging. You don't even run or walk that fast either so you maneuver like a walrus on a unicycle. All the enemies play the exact same except the stealth zombie, and the 'bosses' are just bullet sponges to play keep away from where one slip up is an instant kill. Like, holding left/right while shooting as you can't shoot and dodge or dodge cancel a melee swing you didn't wanna commit to.
All of the enemies play the same as I guess because they couldn't figure out how to design enemies around this weird melee focused fighting. The guns are also kinda boring. Pistol, machine pistol, shotgun, another shotgun, assault rifle.. compared to deadspaces weapons especially.
The mutations also look really goofy, like raw chickens lol. They don't even add much beyond more health, I was expecting like RE5 (or maybe I'm thinking of 6) mutations where the enemies mutate into something drastically different in terms of how they attack and behave.
Story ain't the best either, for the most part. Like Elias dies right as it seems like he's gonna turn into a real character with backstory rather than just a wizard of convenient solutions for Jacob
About time somebody offered some actual criticism about the core gameplay. Performance issues can be fixed but you can't polish a turd. I hope they can reuse the dodging system though, I think the press b to roll meta is getting a bit stale, feels like it makes combat more exciting than Dead Space

Something Im getting confused about, is the game just very bad performance wise with the game itself being good, or is the entire thing just a bed experience, I do want to buy the game and play it myself so I get my own experience in but I just want to hear what's the main issue, is it just performance or is it the entire thing, spoilers I don't care for just gives me something to look forward to
If you have ps5- buy the game
If you have PC- dont buy the game. Simple
You should buy the game and judge it for yourself. REMEMBER you can always return the game if in fact you do not like in the first few hours playing
I got it on Xbox Series X and Im loving it so far, but 5 hours in theres not many enemy variants and its alot of beatem up shootem up.
But the story and voice acting is great so far. I recommend atleast giving it a try when the price drops.
Im a little biased towards anything Glen Scofield though.
*Edit*
I finished it last night, its not a bad game, very repetitive and the ending set up too much for a sequal/DLC story to finish which ticked me off. The final bosses are a joke too, all attacks one hit kill you and you have to use the dodge mechanic and shoot the hell out of them.
Overall I’d give it a 6/10 graphics, acting, and story (till the ending) were great. The combat looks and sounds were great and satisfying but is very repetitive with the dodge dodge, smack smack, shoot combo. The game is easy and hard at the same time where nothing can hurt you but when it does it hurts alot. Plus repetitive enemies.
Overall, wait for a price drop, and give it ago if you like a action beatem up with light horror elements.
The combat is genuinely boring dogshit and I have a huge tolerance for repetitive gameplay. I was able to play and enjoy the new God of War games, which while the combat isn't BAD, it's all very simple.
This game was garbage and Steam still refunded me somehow, which tells me that it's trash quality is widely known.

I said it before and ill say it again: Triple A games are based on the graphics, not the experience/balance state of the game. The more it looks good the more broken it is and, so far, every new major titles that have come out has proven EXACTLY this.
Yes, even elden ring. Theres a reason why it already had a meta and almost eeveryone uses the same weapon and armor.
No, Elden Ring is just standard Dark Souls fans accelerated to the nth degree because of the popularity. I guarantee He saw other reviews, and plays the game as follows: makes awful upgrade selections, never even bothers to learn the combat and dodge system, zero strategy-just runs into every open area full of enemies then complains when he gets swarmed. And btw, looking down instead of paying attention then getting attacked, is not a "jumpscare". Bad take, the game is awesome. Patch on the 15th fixed basically everything. Easy 9/10

So, Charlie quit the game because it had bugs. Then he continues to bad mouth the game even after numerous patches have fixed them. Says Dead Space is a way better game even though he never finished Callisto Protocol. I watched Charlie play Callisto Protocol, and he didn't manage his inventory properly. He missed lots of pickups and therefore didn't have enough money for necessary upgrades. It took him longer than normal to figure out how to dodge and so he blamed it on poor game design rather than his own incompetence. He failed to reload his weapon between fights and blamed it on the gun rather than himself. He could have upgraded his guns to carry more bullets, but he didn't, and so kept running out.
