The worst thing about Stadia was the buisness model. You pay a monthly fee like a subscription service but you don't get access to the whole library like netflix, no you need to pay seperately for games you can't download and if the service shuts down or the servers are down you don't have access to any of the games you bought. If steam is down I can still play most games in offline mode as long as I have them installed, except for the always online games but that is on every platform a problem.

thats the thing, people dont seem to get that you dont have to pay anything to stadia to use it. you paid for 4k, and hdr support, 7.1 surround sound support, if you wanted it, along with the monthly free games which ngl were bangers, but i cant chalk it up to it being everyone elses fault for not understanding because its not.
stadia was free, you only paid for the games cbut google marketing sucked and never made that clear.

I was a qa tester for games a year ago and I still remember the headache that Stadia caused me.
I had to frequently test games on Stadia because our company was hired by the game devs to do qa testing and I was one of the poor unfortunate souls that was assigned the stadia version. I could not tell you if the game was poorly optimised or if stadia is just that awful, but even with an insanely good internet, the result in testing an unfinished game on stadia was the quality would go from 480p to 1080p to 240p and so on, changing every couple frames. It had a sort of strobing effect that would have caused me to have constant seizures if I was epileptic, and not being one I still could only play for an hour tops before I had to rest my eyes.
Not only was it torturous to test on stadia but the whole time I was thinking that the work I was putting in was worthless because no one in the world will play this game on the stadia when it's available on literally everything else.
and then Stadia shut down and I quit my job

One of the biggest failures of Stadia was the games were actually more expensive than Steam, Epic or even the consoles. If you are going to sell something on convenience but jack the price up for that convenience then you need to give people a reason to switch and higher prices just wasn't it. Also we're talking about one of the biggest corporations in the world being stingy on the pricing model!
Also at this time we already had other options like GeForce Now which let you play the games you already owned so you didn't have to buy them again.

Sometimes it looks actually native. No artefacts nothing.
I recommend this to anyone who always wants the latest hardware but can't afford it physically. This way you pay off a gaming PC every 5-6 years. Which to me makes sense, because I don't want to pay for a new one every 2-3 years to stay up-to-date.
Also since I prefer owning a Mac, I don't want to fry my W5700 graphics card for gaming. I want to be easy on my professional hardware for my work.

pretty sure it was the dreamcast, not genesis or saturn that was the death knell for sega's consoles. it had 624 games before it was discontinued, which was too bad because it was actually a great console for it's era, was designed to make pc ports easier to produce, and was the first console to support online gaming, making it a true pioneer. It released in japan at the end of '98, the rest of the world about a year later, which meant it was a contemporary of both the ps and ps2, both of which were largely blown away in terms of innovation and potential. but it was marketed very poorly and supported post launch even more poorly, mostly because Sega lacked the resources to actually promote it properly. EA and another major software developer both declined to support it, but despite not having any access to the catalogues of these major game developers, it still had an enviable list of exclusives: Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Shenmue, Metropolis Street Racer, Power Stone, Space Channel 5, Virtua Tennis, Seaman, Skies of Arcadia, Soul Calibur, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Rez, Headhunter, and Chu Chu Rocket. It also had a very large , clunky yet comfortable, functional and very forward-thinking remote, with Microsoft later incorporating the first 2 traits into their controller design for the Xbox. Had Sega not squandered so much time, resources, and public faith on failures like the Saturn, its very likely that the Dreamcast would have propelled them from being perennial runners up in the console game to the ones to beat, at least for a generation. instead, all support and sales for the Dreamcast ended in 2001, little more than a year after global launch. Which means that, in the little over 2 years since it first went on sale in Japan and without access to any titles from 2 of the biggest studios of the era and Sega's finances in decline, the Dreamcast accrued a game library more than triple the size of what multibillion-dollar Google's Stadia amassed over the course of 4 years. Fucking pathetic lol

Watching this right after Game Awards 23 i recognize tha same reasoning with starfield or dare i say the day before: A lot pf people working on it and a lot of recources put into, therefore of course its good and beyond any doubt or criticism.

Game streaming won't be a thing until the infrastructure is actually there to make the experience not shit for the average user. The infrastructure won't change unless it literally all gets destroyed and has to be replaced wholesale, and even then it's not guaranteed that it will be up to date technology. If this just simply won't be feasible in any of our lifetimes without a massive shift in business incentives for ISP's.

How is no one mentioning the Sega Dreamcast? The Sega Saturn was sold in the American market from 1995 to 1998 but the Sega Dreamcast was sold in the American market from 1999 to only 2001. The Saturn remained in the Japanese market from 1994 to 2000 whereas the Dreamcast only lasted from 1998 to 2001 in Japan...

Large multi billion dollar companies screw up live service games, so a live service console (or controller) seems like it's on the same level as cold fusion and anti gravity tech. Google might have been onto something if we were in 3020.

I was actually a Stadia player for a little bit, but the technology has a long way to go. The input lag was pretty bad, and you would have to pay for a subscription service AND buy games. So yeah, obviously it failed😅

Shadow PC is the only cloud gaming/pc that has any success. And I don’t mean financial success. I have tried it before and after it got bought out and it has been exactly what it advertises. The only thing you can’t expect to use or for is competitive multiplayer

The idea of stadia might be... something. However, google is not an innovator. They are a marketing company.
The people who get promoted are marketing and sales teams, not engineers and developers.
So the marketing team probably heard, "new console" but did not understand what the product was.

i feel like it could have succeeded if they sold it for dirty f***in cheap still have those triple A gaming experiences. or hell have a renting payment model 10 dollars a game for 7 weeks to pay off the game full and then you own it. as for the system itself google could have taken that loss, sell the console at 50 dollars that way you would have the cheapest console on the market while still retaining the Triple A experience through the renting model.. there was a way to keep stadia alive, the need for google to see instant returns is what killed it. see im old enough to remember how profitable say a blockbuster was before netflix. renting to own sorta like a rent-a-center would have yielded the return just not as fast as google wanted

Cloud gaming will always remain worthless because once the service shuts down you ca't play any games, you lose all you paid for, meanwhile normal downloaded ad cartridge/disk games you can still play long after the system loses all funding
