This game is so different from Rondo of Blood, it's basically a different game entirely. Now that I think about it, that's probably why they changed the name.... huh.
Most of the real creators of Rondo of Blood was working on Catlevania Symphony of the night. I think this was just a cash grab from Konami but still I love the first stage of this game the most. Plus the music is top notch. I can see in later levels the game looks half done with no effort.

Mahir Tahseen I think III outclasses this one in terms difficulty slightly, also hydrostorm is very expensive to use, (usually about 20 hearts) SotN's Richter mode is where it's really broken.

Many people call this version an "inferior port", but personally, I prefer it over the original. I'd even say it's one of the most solid Castlevania games. Sure, you miss a few features (such as playing Maria), but at least, the game is difficult. Even the Dracula fight was a joke in the original; here, at least, you get a challenge - as you should in any old-school Castlevania.
Funny how Death's death animation was censored to remove the beheading; but they forget to make sure his weapon was no where near his body when he burst into flames. Very sloppy. Yeah; I know he bled red blood; but that makes no sense anyway.
In Rondo of Blood, it was actually blood that was coming out of death. They made it white in Dracula X my guess as to why is because they thought it didn't make seance for a skeleton to bleed.

This game is unjustly hated. It serves well as a solid Castlevania game and continued to show the strength of the SNES as a system even as its twilight. I have played through both this and the much hallowed PC Engine Rondo of Blood thanks to the Wii. Quite honestly, I think the gameplay here feels smoother and is more rewarding. It suffers from missing many of the series nods and fanservice that Rondo contained as well as the chance to play as Maria, (who is a goofy character IMO), but its a great game. It is also far from the hardest in the series, and Dracula is very much beatable if my weak skills can take him, not to mention a fun and unique final battle. Speaking of skills, Shadowserge, I have no clue how you are so impossibly well versed with kicking all these games asses, but it is nothing short of awe inspiring. A tip of the cap to you, ye paragon of pixelated punishment.
Came to watch the final fight with dracula, impressive patience and timing. I guess u have your jump n slash timed right to slash those fireballs, it seemed so close to get hit at times.
It seems they went out of their way to make this game as much of a pain in the ass to play as humanly possible, even going so far as to make the Dracula fight more of a tedious platforming challenge than an epic brawl between the second strongest Belmont and Dracula

Oh, and regarding Annet being possessed by the skull of Carmilla... let's say it's actually an illusion created by Death to torture Richter for killing his girlfriend. What do you think?

Is this one the hardest? I thought HYDROSTORM solves all your problems (except for the key ones) unless I'm mistaken (is that Rondo only?)

pick a sub weapon of choice and just find a good spot to sit and wait, boring but easy.
Just get the cross and stand at the low platform. When Dracula appears near, throw the cross on his face
