      Sometimes it's better to make versions like this in an inferior system. The more authentic experience make it look more special than being a simply downgraded version. If the devs tried to replicate ROB at all costs this game would just look poor in the (many) areas where the Snes cant keep up with the Pce hardware.

      I play both almost daily and can say that each game is its own game. Dracula X has very few similarities to RoB, save the characters, and a few stages. The games are totally different. Oh, and a few stages are the and. Dracula X Dracula is harder to beat, IMO. Maria and Annette are in totally different as well.

      @@PsychomachineryEBM Rondo has it's own strong points, but not in the backgrounds and level assets. Rondo continues the design philosophy of the NES games - the floors made of flat blocks and simple repetitive backgrounds. And Dracula X level assets are way more advanced - the floors are designed to avoid looking blocky, and the backgrounds are way more complex and ambitious - the game almost looks like an early 90's anime sometimes.

      @@InsidiousOne Do remember the PC-Engine was an 8-bit console; while the CD attachment gave it a heck of a lot more storage, it was still limited by what it's CPU could do. I didn't expect for perfect SNES copy of PC Engine CD original, but Konami could've at least given Maria her magical powers and introduced Shaft so the Western players had undersood the plot of Symphony of the Night much better. Actually, Rondo of Blood should've been ported on PSX instead of remaking on SNES, with fact 1) time of SNES was coming to an end in 1995, 2) Rondo seems to be at same time longer and less frustratingly difficult of the two, and 3) Maria and Shaft. Even if it had ended up being dubbed as badly as SOTN.

    • @Rassenomatjutut
      @Rassenomatjutut 2 года назад

      @@RaifSeverence Well, again; what Maria actually does in SotN is that she first heals Richter up in prologue like in RoB and DX when he rescues her, and then gives Alucard the glasses with which he can see Shaft's orbs that control Richter which she happened to find. And even without help of Maria, Alucard would've sooner or later found the glasses by himself. That still however leads to question who would escort Richter out of castle once defeated.

    I'd love to see how Symphony of the Night would look and run on a SNES. Obviously it can't do everything the PlayStation can but someone's already made a demo of it running on the Megadrive/Genesis. I'm sure the SNES could do it even better. Especially with the speech. Super Famicom games had way more well sounding speech in them compared to Super Nintendo games because of the compressed audio and extra chips so I bet Symphony of the Night would be pretty damn close to the PS1 version.

      I think the Genesis is a more capable system for a downgraded port of SOTN. assuming each system has access to a 6button pad, the Genesis hardware just had more horsepower when it comes to multiple sprites on screen and a higher resolution. SNES has the edge with color palette and music of course but if we are talking about frame rate and # of sprites I think sega would get the nod
      (SNES technically could display more sprites but the CPU often slowed down immensely when even using half of it's theoretical limit, whereas the Genesis was able to keep up a consistent frame rate even when maxing out the sprites. look at contra, and batman and Robin as examples)
      personally if I could choose which system to develop a SOTN down grade I might side with you here and pick SNES just because of the massive bump in colors and music quality and accept the other hardware downgrades

      @@joesaiditstrueFunny how we now have a SOTN demake on Genesis in the works. It's been a little over a year and it's coming along wonderfully. I really think SOTN would've worked on the PC Engine, back in the day. If the game used chiptunes for the music and utilized the disc space for the level design, load times wouldn't have been much more dreadful than the PS version. If only the PC Engine/ Turbo GraFX had survived longer.

    The SNES version is such a half-assed fugly port imo, as the system is capable of much more than this port would suggest. In fact, it could technically do basically everything seen in the PC game and more besides in most cases. Shame this is what it got, because I think a properly handled SNES version of Rondo that actually played to the system's strengths could have been one of the greatest 16-bit era Castlevania games of all time. Thank God for Castlevania IV on SNES at least, as SNES has one of the very best Castlevania games right there. A pesar que Rondo of blood le gana en todo a Dracula X excepto en la dificultad, es impresionante lo que lograron con la banda sonora en Super Nintendo, solo por eso Dracula X tiene su lugar como un buen juego de Castlevania.

      @@PsychomachineryEBM of course it is. Just compare Den and see how cringe it sounds on Rondo. Bloodlines also sounds way better on the SNES. It's weird, but the "higher quality" synths screw up the sound design for Rondo because they really sound too plastic. Those shit brasses on Rondo ruin a good part of the soundtrack. Also, the extra crispy sound breaks a lot of the possible immersion. I won't deny Rondo is better on level design, but musically it could have been way better

    • @angelr194

      I think it depends on the level: I love the upbeats with the SNES synth but the calmer tones with the Rondo's one. Sometimes the battles are anoying with that SNES "chirp" and sometimes the Rondo soundtracks sound too "soft" in the action parts.

    Ambos juegos son magníficos tanto el Rondo of Bood y Drácula X tienen sus virtudes, yo destaco los efectos de sonido de la versión del Snes al momento de dar el latigazo se escucha mejor que su versión original se puede notar el momento de golper al jefe Dullahan se escucha como si golpeara metal y al momento de caminar también se escucha un efecto de metal, también con los caballeros lanza y las armaduras que lanzan hachas se escucha el mismo sonido metálico al golpearlos, la versión original no tiene ese sonido

      Comparing the technical capabilities of the two is like comparing "Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon" with "Castlevania III" They are completely different, you can compare how well executed are the battles or the gameplay, though.
      (Although there are examples where the technologically advanced version failed too, like Castlevania 64 or Megaman X3 for Ps1)

    Sometimes it's better to make versions like this in an inferior system. The more authentic experience make it look more special than being a simply downgraded version. If the devs tried to replicate ROB at all costs this game would just look poor in the (many) areas where the Snes cant keep up with the Pce hardware.

    • @joesaiditstrue
      @joesaiditstrue 2 года назад

      the SNES was more capable technically than the PCE, only downside was storage capacity (CD vs cart)
      SNES had a better sound chip, IMHO, that Sony chip is awesome

    I honestly feel SNES's Dracula X gets a bum rep. Yes, it's not as good as Rondo of Blood but it's still very enjoyable. The level designs are different enough for a new experience and some of the bosses are different too. The graphics (for the most part) and sound effects are better on SNES's Dracula X. After listening to the music, while better on Rondo is quite impressive. I will say that I'm not a fan of the in-game art (I like the color style though) that SNES Dracula X uses in its cutscenes and prologue. The US box art and instruction manual used the art from Rondo of Blood, which at the time, felt like a bait-and-switch to me.
