Wait, I know the Hydra and Lesser Vampire are PSP remake exclusive but you say each version does it means Original Rondo has one? I didn't remember if it has.
Maybe it's the color palettes, but sometimes the game looks more alive with 2d Sprites than 3d polygons. But the remakes certainly did a better job with the backgrounds.
I definitely agree on the colors point. The original just looks more vibrant and the color work is better as a whole. The fighting stage of the Wyvern fight is clearly contrasted from the background in the original, but in the remake its all the same tone and lightness and looks bland
@@zucchinibyday That's the problem with trying to appear "realistic". In reality, everything tends to blend together (that's why we notice something different immediately), but, in the games, you need to make the characters "pop up" from the background to follow the action.
The only difference is not just 3D, They put Annette as Succubus Boss, ,Stage 5 EX, Hydra Boss, and Dracula's 3rd form. the remake one definitely makes a lot of new things
Hydra: “Don’t mind ussss, jusssst feeling a bit left out. Esssspecially ssssince Dracula X-ssss Chroniclessss is the only time in the sssseries that a Hydra hassss appeared!”
For 20 years I wondered why Death changed costumes before you faced him is SotN... From this video, I just realized he's wearing his RoB outfit when he greets Alucard.. 😮
Nice, had no idea the PSP version looked so good but I wish they had stronger contrasting colours on the characters though. 2007 was at the height of blurry muddy colours, so the PSP version looks better than most games of that time.
Thank you for posting this, I hadn't played the remake and I have been curious about it. Perhaps I am a bit biased because Rondo of Blood is one of my all-time favorite games, but I prefer the look and sound of the original over the remake. However, I am still curious enough that I may get around to playing the remake someday.
Overall, the original is definitely harder and easy on the eyes as well. But i'd be lying if i said that i didn't enjoy the remake. It didn't completey copy and paste Rondo's stage layouts in a 2.5D setting,it actually went out of it's way to change some of the layout and added a bit more to them.DXC also went an extra mile by including unlockables that help Richter on his journey. Like in this one,all of the 4 maidens have some sort of purpose, which is in itself a sharp contrast to the original where Maria seemed like the only character worth rescuing, because then the player would have the ability to go through the game as her. This game also had two new bossfights that weren't present in Rondo. One of them being a direct consequence of the player not saving one of the maidens. The final boss fight was changed as well, making it seem like Dracula fights you with almost all of his capacity. Honestly, for a remake that didn't look very appealing at first glance because of it's graphics,it was pretty fun and satisfying to go through.this deserves atleast a single playthrough if you are into Castlevania. Or you know,if Rondo's difficulty curve scared you off.come back and give this one a shot.
Well I think the original sprites render better here ans seem somehow more "detailed". This reminds the same feeling I had on the first full 3D FPS games like Quake : I prefered the sprites from Doom 1/2 games or Duke 3D rather than the very low polygon angular 3D models. Remake is better for rendering the background, but not the enemies and characters.
X Chronicles version is a cakewalk if you're a Rondo of Blood veteran, or even better, a Dracula X veteran. Tightened and easier control. less anger inducing attack patterns etc.
What a massive difference in skill. The person playing the original is TAS-levels of good, while the one playing the remake is playing each boss for the first time.
2d Richter has always been my favorite character and I definitely prefer the 2d over his 3rd version. The 3d version looks like a soft soy boy compared to the 2d version. Darclua X ORIGINAL not chronicels, version of Dracula was always the best I thought.
Original wins hands down. The polygons make the game feel more cartoony instead of more realistic, while the pixel art is gorgeous and much more menacing looking. The walk animation in 3D just looks like Richter sh** in his pants and the all the colors are toned waaaay down. Plus, the player on the psp version needs to git gud 💀
PSP really had some awesome remakes like this one, and both Mega Man Maverick Hunter and Powered Up, makes you wonder why they can't make more of those instead of just republishing original game nowaday
In my opinion bosses look better in the original than in the remake without exception. I think only Dracula comes very close to the old design. Most backgrounds (with some notable exceptions, like Death's and Dracula's) look better, much more immersive and lively in Chronicles, but the grainy PSP graphics really hurt them in retrospect. Dullahan stage looks the worst. I do greatly recommend the PSP collection though to those who still play on that thing. I really wish for more Castlevania games in the graphics style of Rondo and Symphony. But gameplay-wise also going back to classic, arcady non-RPG style or at least a whip-swinging hybrid like the first two GBA games. I'd buy it. Maybe they could rrimagine Leon Belmont's story (so noone has to touch the lackluster 3D game) or the 1999 "Demon Castle War". Heck, to tie in with the Netflix show, maybe remake Castlevania III.
Amazing, I know how author feels playing the Remake. Honestly, tried to evaluate it myself and given up the moment I get to see how butchered the chapel... What's more, did I imagine things or bosses behaviour was changed so bad that they now read inputs to get upper hand?
Why do they shrunk minotaur's head? He doesn't seem more buff, he looks silly! Graphics, music and gameplay are better in the remake but... art direction is a little off.
I remember playing the 3d version so I could get Rondo of Blood and SoTN unlocked. Then I just played those. I hated the 3d graphics, and still do. But I'm glad it was made, or I wouldn't have ever played RoB.
Playing on the console PSP is better than emulating. The games was made for its own screen and i have to say, the graphics are extremely beatiful for It age
Both versions are objectively speaking about equal. I think for the majority of people their prefered version is the one they experienced first. Personally I have a soft spot for DXC and I consider it to be the best retrovenia in the series and I like the sound design and music much better in the remake. Not only is it one of the only games I played on OG hardware, It also introduced me to SOTN which I obviously appreciate.
Man i really miss Richter's Japanese death (dying) voice. Because for a reason why there is several death during the comparison mode. Is the PSP remake harder than the original?
No special bosses of each version included. Sorry mates. Enjoy!!
Wait, I know the Hydra and Lesser Vampire are PSP remake exclusive but you say each version does it means Original Rondo has one? I didn't remember if it has.
@@MilenAnessar Hi! no, no, only missing the minions that Shaft summons (Giant Bat, Medusa, The Creature...). Hydra and Lesser Demon are not in RoB
Remake Dracula has like 4 forms; plus if you don't rescue Annette she becomes a vampire that you have to fight in place of Shaft's ghost
Maybe it's the color palettes, but sometimes the game looks more alive with 2d Sprites than 3d polygons. But the remakes certainly did a better job with the backgrounds.

I really enjoyed the remake when it was released. The extra final form they gave Dracula caught me off guard and was rather difficult though.
Hopefully they’ll port it and the original to the Switch and other consoles!
When this was released it was the first time I ever got to play the original Rondo Of Blood. I think it's my personal favorite Castlevania game.
The only difference is not just 3D, They put Annette as Succubus Boss, ,Stage 5 EX, Hydra Boss, and Dracula's 3rd form. the remake one definitely makes a lot of new things
To compensate the inferior graphics and worst bso

Thank you for the another excellent video!
I really wish Konami did brought this game back instead of removing the remake from Castlevania Requiem.
For 20 years I wondered why Death changed costumes before you faced him is SotN... From this video, I just realized he's wearing his RoB outfit when he greets Alucard.. 😮
He knew Alucard would be difficult so he was wearing his battle outfit
Sí.
Yo prefiero el traje de Rondo Of Blood, es mucho mejor que el de Symphony Of The Night.
El de SOTN parece una monja morada 🤣🤣
Then he geared up in the reverse castle. His corporate suit
The PC Engine version had aged so much better. The soundtrack and effects are eerier, too.
For me, what i really like about RoB are the graphics, so when it turned into 3D it just lost all the magic to me
Love the remake but what always bothers me with transitions to 3D is how slow everything feels
Lo mismo digo
I love the extra form of dracula final fight in the remake! That fight was intense!
Prefer the original, but I love them both.👍
3d looks and sounds like crap
Honestly, the original is better than the remake.
Miles away better

Just passed Rondo of Blood on PS4 collection and the only boss I didn't face was the Bone Golem. Missed that area somehow.
there are alternate pathways for each level, if you go to oje you get sent to a alternative version of that level
The original is nicer to look at than the remake
Both of them have their unique charm
Overall, the original is definitely harder and easy on the eyes as well. But i'd be lying if i said that i didn't enjoy the remake.

Is it a me thing or do I feel as if DXC is easier than Rondo of Blood?… it’s a me thing isn’t it?
@@James-oj6ru No,it's not just you. Any person that has played Rondo of blood before or after DXC can tell that Rondo was harder.
2D > 3D. Always.

Rondo and Symphony era have the most beautiful spriteworks. Followed by Aria of Sorrow.
You sure get the crap kicked out of you during some of the Dracula X chronicle fights
I don't like very much the game... I was playing with no enthusiasm 😂
Fair enough good video
Most notable difference is not the bosses, but how shit the PSP player is compared to the original...
making 2d sidescrollers 3d for the sake of 3d just ends up looking horrible, Rondo on PCE just destroys this crap on psp
Are the controls of the remake harder or is it a different person playing it? Haha
Even though the remake had quite a bit of added content I still prefer the 2d look of this game.
It's too bad they didn't include the remake with Castlevania Requiem, especially since they used art from it
Pc Engine Cd's Rondo of Blood, always!
Absolutely amazing video as always many thanks! !!!!!!☺
Many thanks my friend!!

Castlevania The Dracula X Chronicles remake from Rondo Of Blood
What the hell is the DXC player even doing most of the time
Wanting to come back to RoB
X Chronicles version is a cakewalk if you're a Rondo of Blood veteran, or even better, a Dracula X veteran. Tightened and easier control. less anger inducing attack patterns etc.
Sprites will always be superior in this kinda games
Biggest difference between the two: Whoever is playing the Remake is not trying to play seriously.
True fact ;)
Love Dracula X chronicle because game add 2 extra boss and Dracula 3rd form :3
What a massive difference in skill. The person playing the original is TAS-levels of good, while the one playing the remake is playing each boss for the first time.

I love The Dracula X Chronicles. I did a playthrough of it over on my channel if anyone wants to learn more about it!
Juegos que marcaron mi infancia la verdad, simplemente hermosos juegos, e inolvidables

Is it just me, or is Remake Richter more of a punching bag than Original Richter?
Not just in this game, but why do 3D models make everything seem slower compared to 2D?
Just a little reminder that Dracula X Chronicles is a game for portable console. And that's why this game looks much better on a small screen.
my personal summary: 3d is intimidating, but 2d is disturbing. that's probably why many people prefers the original.

The guy who plays 2d knows how to play the one on 3D sucks so I makes feel like the game itself sucks
the 3d version looks cartoony and waaaay less threatening
Cough cough maria rondo of blood
Ia the remake being played by a 6 year old?
Demo Boss Option made by Konami for the Game, so...
Interesting
Man, they really butchered the atmosphere the original game had.
the 3d sprites are good but they dont work well with the old animations
I dont know why but i like allways 2D animations more .
Funny how the remake looks like shit compared to the original

I prefer the old version of the game.
The remake graphics looked dated when it was released, so it doesn't surprise me it looks even uglier today.
The original looks way better
