This looks super easy to setup and it's my kind of price (free!). Perfect for trying the blogging thing again without the monetary commitment, other than domain name, to worry about if life gets in the way of writing. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
I've been wanting to make a personal blog/news site for a while now. Especially since my interests lie a lot in art/animation & video production. I kept trying to figure out how to build it with WordPress and kept giving up. This looks a lot closer to what I was looking for. Thanks!
Wow, that’s so promising! I certainly hope more tools like that will become available! Basically free local Wordpress that you can publish to any static web hosting! I’ll be definitely checking this out! Thanks a lot for sharing!
Awesome and easy to understand guide! It's great you also covered why people should think about having their own site instead of being chained to the big corporate platforms!
thank you for this! I just published a very basic version of my website this week, and have been thinking about implementing classic features like these that I miss…unreal timing!
Thank you! Some great info there. I've been wanting to make a website for ages, but the thought of fighting with Wordpress again always drove me away from that. This looks promising! Quick question: you showed Github pages and Neocities, but from the Publii menu I think I also saw FTP and SFTP as options. So if I already have a domain hoster (which I do) with FTP capabilities, I could just put the credentials into Publii, press Sync and I'm good to go?
I'm happy that I recently reactivated my Website domain name services! Over the past 10 or so years I've had my own website and I really enjoy having my own little corner of the Internet! I enjoy your videos on topics such as these!! Love the shirt too!! Have a wonderful day!! 😊🖖🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🎮 Marcus
You're absolutely right about WordPress, especially if you want to enable commenting. Back to bbs days. What's going to keep the host from censoring you? Is there a tool on the CMS side that could automatically create a FB post with a link to your (say) neocities site? I'd want to use FB almost as an RSS feed for people who don't know how to spell RSS. I've thought about Mastodon as well...
Hah, Geocities. Flashbacks! Good video :) Been wanting to have a place to put all my stuff just for myself to have it all in one place, and have been sniffing on the static website things, or some fediverse CMS, but that's a lot to get into) and updating HTML and CSS skills from a few decades ago 😄
You would need a different host for Discourse as it needs proper servers and such, it’s not a static site. I use Hetzner Online for hosting Discourse, but I had someone else set up everything
A static website is what I've run exclussively (even if atm it's just locally out of lazyness) but yeah. it gets tiring managing a CMS that would also break randomly just because.
Cannot afford supporting even a domain name anymore (let alone hosting), so i had to close my music label "site". Cuz my disability pension is only 100 usd. Nobody was visiting it anyway.
I agree with a lot you say, but Wordpress getting too expensive? Kind of bloated a little, maybe. But I can still keep it simple to myself and keep ownership. Or have I mislead myself of thinking this as my forever place under own domain?
Expensive mostly referred to alternatives, but also On the vast majority of web hosts I've looked at, WordPress hosting is a significant price increase over the cost of hosting a small static site. (Free or at most $5/mo for basic/static vs $15+/mo for most WP hosting solutions) Plus plugins all now want subscriptions, most good themes cost, etc. $15+/mo plus domain renewals, SSL certs, whatever else is a lot to ask for a personal site, especially with the added cost of all the extra work to maintain it
WOO PUBLII LET'S GO!!!!
LESGO
What incredible timing. I was *this* close to starting a Wordpress account, but didn't like the idea of having to pay so much. Thank you for this!

Glad to see PUBLII in the spotlight, cant wait for it to be picked up by more youtubers
It's so nice. I just want more themes!
What about discourse? Can you use a neocities domain coupled with discourse to host a forum?
You would need a different host for Discourse as it needs proper servers and such, it’s not a static site. I use Hetzner Online for hosting Discourse, but I had someone else set up everything

btw ur blog in description is not changed to the .zip domain
Fixed, thanks!
i think domains are a bit overrated. they cost a bunch and often just disappear after a few years
Time to pull out good old iWeb
Frontpage!
Use notepad
For basic HTML sites - sure. Though Notepad++ far easier to work with. But for a CMS-based blog, no. no.
