I like that this hobby is still happening. I used to shoot regular 8 in 2003/04 and had a lot of fun learning all about it. The discipline of shooting 7 to 15 seconds on a wind up camera makes for a better camera operator when switching over to video. and the film editing process also gives you a greater appreciation when you work in a digital format. I would often make films featuring people, while winding the camera I would prep them about how this is silent and talking to the camera is pointless, instead, do something demonstrative. Great fun. Cameras are cheap, and so are projectors. The advantage of Reg 8 is that the projectors are almost always manual and are much more likely to have frame rate adjustments, as compared to Super 8 which is almost always automatic feeding and designed to be simple and idiot proof. I've had those projectors eat my Super 8 film and destroy sprocket holes, sad and expensive.
I just bought a pristine Bell and Howell Canon Cine Canonet 8 without realizing it wasn’t super 8mm but so excited regular 8mm is now available. Definitely buying a roll of the color films.
It would be cool if there was a service where you could have prints made from your camera negative so you can run your movie through a projector. Really loving the color reproduction on this film stock you’re showing.
I love the engineering on 8mm cameras. Super8 got away largely from turret mounts and wind up mechanisms. I have a Bolex that I've never used, and a great old Yashica T8. Need to buy some of this ASAP
YAY!!! I recently dug out my Keystone 8 mm camera that has been in my family since the late 50's or early 60's It was disappointing that I could only get B&W, now I have an option. Thank you !!
This is amazing, over the summer I bought a 1951 Miller cine model 3. It’s in fantastic condition but I couldn’t find anywhere to get film. I’m so happy.
I always see a ton of great 8mm cameras at flea markets, but I've always been turned off by the potential difficulty of loading it. I've always liked the ease of Super 8. Is it relatively easy to load a roll of 8mm?
One thing I always loved about Reg 8mm film and loading the spools is that you get that neat looking light leak of orange around the edges and the artifacts in the film when the 2 halves are spliced in the middle of the 50ft. Also my little 8mm camera had a single frame button so I could do stop motion easily.
I don't care if it's only available in negative stock, it's just so awesome that color standard 8mm film is finally back in production and available to the public once again.

Great stuff! So, if it's a color negarive film, is it turned into positive at the scanning stage, or how does that happen? I have so far used only Color Reversal, and the FOMA B/W reversal.
Welp Mike, you sucked me down the Black Hole AGAIN! Now, in addition to shooting my bevy of vintage still cameras, with real film (courtesy of FPP), I just snagged (my first) wind up movie camera: a NOS Bolex C8 - said to be called "the Swiss watch of the Double 8 world". The film has a very good picture quality. However, you have to thread 8mm film in the dark, which is not always easy. The advantage, however, is that 8mm cameras are mostly mechanical and require no or common batteries. Cameras from the 1950s still work flawlessly today. For today's consumers, however, Super 8 would be easier to use. It is easier to change a cartridge. That's easy and anyone can do without any prior knowledge. However, some cameras for the light meter require special battery, some of which are no longer manufactured. Nevertheless, it would be ideal for younger filmmakers to offer the film in Super-8 cartridges.
