This is the Martian defeat from the Martian game from Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds PC game.
Probably the best quality version that you will find outside of Jeff Wayne and his associates.
I have extracted the video from the Bink FMV files bundled with the PC game, removed the interpolation that caused the weird horizontal lines and have created a new version with smoother and less jagged video.

    _Perhaps another planet may suffice_
In the book, the Narrator speculates that the Martians have learnt a lesson in their failed attempt to colonise Earth, and are, instead, attempting to colonise Venus.

In one of the versions, the Martians decided to go to Venus after their invasion failed.
I suppose they would do it in this version too. After all, if this invasion exhausted most of their resources, how could they hope to win by fighting the humans again?

If their technology was so far advanced then they might have a few tricks up their sleeves. The problem of course is the humans.

It was in the original version by H.G. Wells were they go to Venus after the ones on Earth all die from the bacteria.

In the book (and here) they go to Venus instead. Hence the "another planet may suffice". It's presumed that Venus too is inhabited and would have to be conquered. The big divergence is that in the game the Martians are defeated by human war capacity; it would make no sense to attack again if they'd indeed used up their resources in the first attempt. In the book, the humans are pretty much irrelevent, the mighty Martians are defeated by "the littlest things on the Earth". Bacteria. In that case, the Martans might be able to work out how to overcome that problem. The humans presented very little difficulty to them. The book ends saying "by virtue of a thousand million deaths, mankind had secured his ownership of the Earth. It would be his even had the Martians been ten times as mighty as they were. Possibly the Martians saw it that way too, since the observations of explosions the surafce of our sister world, Venus"

@@richardgregory3684 and yet, in the end credits for the game (no matter the side you play) and for the album, the martians try taking earth a second time, right after the humans land a probe on mars, they launch a pod (which somehow knocks out all human communications on earth *shrugs*)

IF they had the same level of technology they would last approximately 1 or two weeks and then provide whichever side had subdued them some very useful technology. If they had been more sensible and sided with one warring faction, they might have tipped the balance.

Loved this game. Actually, I may stay have it somewhere, though I doubt it would work on a modern PC.
I liked how it was an RTS game, but rather than having a set campaign, you got to choose where to go next.

Well, possibly they've consumed so much human blood that our haemoglobin is in their system. They were able to breathe our air in the first place so haemoglobin makes sense - so red it is.

Why not? Iron is even more common on Mars than on Earth. It's an efficient oxygen carrier, so why shouldn;t the Martians have iron-based blood? In fact, they actually feed on human blood. Basically, thr Martians have no digestive systems, don;t eat or drink, they are mobile brains having discarded most of their body structure. The inject blood from "lower animals" to replenish themselves. On Mars they have humanoid "cattle" (in the book some are found in the Martian cylinders, used as food during the journey).
