And after all these years, he still puts every emotion & effort into his performances. He will never be beaten or bettered by anyone. Truly is the Boss.
One of the best versions he has done EVER.. That ending was fantastic, that little harmonica bend at the end, the little touch i have never heard him add to before.. This was amazing, the feeling in his voice.. Those who were here this night got a real special treat with this version..
I loved this song the first time I heard it. Am 65 years old now back in the middle 70s. The first line the screen door slams. If any of you grew up in the inner city like i did. That door was slamming from morning until bed time. I would love to know if Bruce knew or even a thought that this unbelievable song. Would have people all over the world. Singing this song from people who don't speak English. They will sing it word for word back to Bruce Springsteen. If there's anyone who saids they don't like this song. They are full of shit cause it's just about every guy and girls love life. Don't turn me away i don't think I can take another night alone. So mary alarm in the ride it isn't free. Dam Bruce Springsteen is a musical genius. The biggest rock band and the greatest right up there with THE WHO and Pete Townsend another musical genius
Luis I agree. I heard it for the first time last night at his Auckland concert. It was lovely. I tried to find it on itunes, but they only have the version which includes the band. Bummer :(
I was there, I was jetlagged, returned from Europe the day before. I was so tired, but so looking forward to this. Was a great show! This acoustic version brought me to tears!
Was so lucky to be there that night. We were blessed to hear Bruce play the full album of 'The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle' in order... only the second time ever played from start to finish. We got some extra early stuff Saint in the City and Bus Stop. We got a cover of our home town heroes 'The Saints' with 'Just Like Fire Would' a Highway to Hell, Stevie's favourite Fade Away and a staggering acoustic Thunder Road. Seen Bruce quite a few times but this night was top of the list.
I remember the first time that I heard this song, I was 15 years old (now I’m 24) I used to spend my mi summer highschool vacation sleeping all day and wake up all night. I remember it was 3 in the morning and I was seeing this bbc documental called “7 ages of rock”, in the 5th episode they talk about Bruce’s music and the way it changed rock. It start with this song, I can’t forget that I thought that what he was singing it’s powerful and honest. Yep, that’s the first time I heard The Boss.
I heard this song when I was 15 years old as well ( now I'm 61) it changed my life .... hope and faith and believing that's what he's all about. He's still helping people today. Thank you Bruce.
@Bruce Springsteen Thank you for making contact! I am faced with an incredibly health challenge - right heart failure - - kind end of life, or beginning of completely new life. I want to stay. So I ask all my friends to hang on to me! Do not let me slip away! I want to listen to more of the stuff I love! Hence the significance of your reply! Thanks! xx
There is more emotion in this solo performance than when it has the full ESB treatment. A sign of a confident man that he can stop singing and know the audience will fill in the required words, with no backup as usual. Even the l who love the Sax solo didn’t miss it his humming filled in in a sympathetic ending , in keeping with the rest of the song.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This song has great meaning to me it was the first song I knew by heart I could sing it without the music and Bruce as my backup vocals lol by the end of the second day and with the Boss like confidence I sang it to a beautiful young lady as a way of asking her out and it worked we have two beautiful children together that grew up way to fast we didn’t make it til the end but Bruce always brings us together thank you brother and I hope when you tour one day again you play the star lake amphitheater outside of Pittsburgh that is a great venue great upload thank you and happy new year
First time I hear this song - as a young and stupid teenager - I was kissing my sweetheart and it came on the radio. We were outside of her car and it started raining. I guess "Jungleland" would have been more apropos ("Sweet summer rain") but this was good enough.
The Boss wrote the cover notes to Roy Orbisons Greatesr Hits Album . He wanted to let the world know Roy was his idol . He also liked Woody Guthrie . Bruce You legend x
The screen door slams Mary's dress waves Like a vision she dances across the porch As the radio plays Roy Orbison singing for the lonely Hey that's me and I want you only Don't turn me home again I just can't face myself alone again Don't run back inside Darling, you know just what I'm here for So you're scared and you're thinking That maybe we ain't that young anymore Show a little faith there's magic in the night You ain't a beauty but hey you're alright Oh and that's alright with me You can hide 'neath your covers And study your pain Make crosses from your lovers Throw roses in the rain Waste your summer praying in vain For a saviour to rise from these streets Well now I'm no hero That's understood All the redemption I can offer girl Is beneath this dirty hood With a chance to make it good somehow Hey what else can we do now Except roll down the window And let the wind blow back your hair? Well the night's busting open These two lanes will take us anywhere We got one last chance to make it real To trade in these wings on some wheels Climb in back Heaven's waiting down on the tracks Oh-oh come take my hand We're riding out tonight to case the promised land Oh-oh-oh-oh Thunder Road, oh Thunder Road, oh Thunder Road Lying out there like a killer in the sun Hey I know it's late we can make it if we run Oh-oh-oh-oh Thunder Road, sit tight, take hold Thunder Road Well I got this guitar And I learned how to make it talk And my car's out back If you're ready to take that long walk From your front porch to my front seat The door's open but the ride ain't free And I know you're lonely For words that I ain't spoken Tonight we'll be free All the promises'll be broken There were ghosts in the eyes Of all the boys you sent away They haunt this dusty beach road In the skeleton frames of burned-out Chevrolets They scream your name at night in the street Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet And in the lonely cool before dawn You hear their engines roaring on When you get to the porch they're gone On the wind So Mary climb in It's a town full of losers I'm pulling out of here to win
this is awesome, thank you - great memories of a wonderful night. don't suppose you got "does this bus stop at 82nd street?"? it's my favourite song of all time and i about died when he sang it.
Nice work. Great gig, pity only the one show for Brizzie. Can't complain too much about the set list - for us Bruce fans anyway. Funny how the young "musicians" can't match the E Street Band! :-)

I don’t care how he sings it or where he sings it, it will will still be the song I take to my grave.
And after all these years, he still puts every emotion & effort into his performances. He will never be beaten or bettered by anyone. Truly is the Boss.
Still, after all these years, my favorite song.
Lovely comment :) I think many can relate to that
Saw him in Milan (Italy) in 1984, and 30 years later he's always the best, the only one, The Boss
Absolutly

This live version is his best and to me this song is so powerful and it heals my heart and soul!!

A version to die with

You can never be to tired, to see the Boss

We were there too. Awesome night!!
Took my best friend to this concert, it was her first time. We had a ball!
Watching your face singing a tear descended on my face 😢💘
Love the stripped back restraint in his live acoustic versions, adds something that the full band anthem misses out on.
The man is just pure heart and soul. Listen to the words and connect
This has been my favourite song since I was a child in the 90s! My Spotify wrapped 2022 id played this 185 times just this year lmao
Must be awesome to watch an entire concert through your camera screen.....
Some of the lyrics in Thunder Road are specific lyrics about me and this guy that Bruce knew wayyy back in the old days
I was there for this but I am glad someone recorded it. How good.
you can download the recording of this from Bruces website now
I haven't got any words for this man
Radionowhere Don't need any ... he's got enough for all of us...
You're Right !

Chills. Thats why he is "The Boss".
It's not shown here, but I loved how he gave his mouth organ to the boy who joined him on stage!

CLASSIC
The Boss wrote the cover notes to Roy Orbisons Greatesr Hits Album . He wanted to let the world know Roy was his idol . He also liked Woody Guthrie . Bruce You legend x
The screen door slams
Mary's dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch
As the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again
Don't run back inside
Darling, you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking
That maybe we ain't that young anymore
Show a little faith there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me
You can hide 'neath your covers
And study your pain
Make crosses from your lovers
Throw roses in the rain
Waste your summer praying in vain
For a saviour to rise from these streets
Well now I'm no hero
That's understood
All the redemption I can offer girl
Is beneath this dirty hood
With a chance to make it good somehow
Hey what else can we do now
Except roll down the window
And let the wind blow back your hair?
Well the night's busting open
These two lanes will take us anywhere
We got one last chance to make it real
To trade in these wings on some wheels
Climb in back
Heaven's waiting down on the tracks
Oh-oh come take my hand
We're riding out tonight to case the promised land
Oh-oh-oh-oh Thunder Road, oh Thunder Road, oh Thunder Road
Lying out there like a killer in the sun
Hey I know it's late we can make it if we run
Oh-oh-oh-oh Thunder Road, sit tight, take hold
Thunder Road
Well I got this guitar
And I learned how to make it talk
And my car's out back
If you're ready to take that long walk
From your front porch to my front seat
The door's open but the ride ain't free
And I know you're lonely
For words that I ain't spoken
Tonight we'll be free
All the promises'll be broken
There were ghosts in the eyes
Of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road
In the skeleton frames of burned-out Chevrolets
They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn
You hear their engines roaring on
When you get to the porch they're gone
On the wind
So Mary climb in
It's a town full of losers
I'm pulling out of here to win
Bruce tears..
this is awesome, thank you - great memories of a wonderful night. don't suppose you got "does this bus stop at 82nd street?"? it's my favourite song of all time and i about died when he sang it.

Thunder Road
Has anyone got the actual guitar chords for this version?
does anyone know what Key Harmonica he is using?
Does ANYONE know the tuning for this?? Definitely not standard. Any help?
Nice work. Great gig, pity only the one show for Brizzie. Can't complain too much about the set list - for us Bruce fans anyway. Funny how the young "musicians" can't match the E Street Band! :-)
