  • Bella Bambina the blind cat objects when mom says the treats are all done!
Bella went blind in December of 2021 when her optic nerve was destroyed by hemolytic anemia. She became shy and reclusive, staying to herself in a remote area of the house.
A few months ago, Bella began to join the family once again in the pets' playroom. Our soundboard is in this room and we gather as a family every evening. She has been exposed to hundreds of button presses and has become very interested, even sitting often on the board or the mats close to it.
Today, Bella did not like my decision to stop handing out treats and seemingly spoke out. Was she advocating for herself or pressing randomly?
After studying video from both cameras, running it repeatedly in slow motion and analyzing her attention, body language, and responses, assessing the placement of her feet and the way she orients herself by using the edge of the mat, I believe this was an intentional attempt to communicate.
